    Take away 607, 1914 goes away and the AUTHORITY of the WTBTS goes away.

    I disagree. The boards of the wts is ran by the great crowd so how does this help them?

    The WTS might be run by the great crowd today, but they can not interpet the Bible. It is only the FDS that has this ablity. Just listen to how a JW speaks of the Annionted Class. The great crowd leaders of the WTS only maintain their authority because of the FDS class. The great crowd will never hold the authority that the FDS does, unless new light changes things. But than Sally Pioneer has as much authority as those leaders and will be able to think for herself and this is not a good thing.

    Let me ask, if Jesus returned in 1914 based on the date 607 BC and 607 BC is not a good date, than when did Jesus' return occur?

    And the great crowd has been "intepeting scripture" for years you think a bunch of old mean really writes all this stuff?

    They get their authority from being a multi billion dollar corporation nothing more.

    Technically the WTS does not believe Jesus returned in 1914. And right now his "return" as you call it is based on nothing really except the "signs of the last days" in mathew 24. Remember they said the secular date for the temple falling was 586 in 1992. So playing with dates does not help your case.

    XQTP, the eschatological interpretations of the WTS absolutely demand that there be a chronological "stake in the sand." If 1914 'went away,' then what would happen? A few consequences:

    1) There is no remnant, no "faithful and discreet slave," no "evil slave";

    2) Every WTS book written about "double-prophetic meanings" of Ruth, Esther, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Malachi and Revelation are totally bogus;

    3) Matthew 24, etc, are all still future, and "prophecy fulfilled since the end of the world began" becomes instead "let's wait and see what happens.

    4) There is no "great crowd."

    Pretty darn difficult to get people to work at 110% when you tell them that "payday may be sometime in the next century."

    The watchtower does not need 607 bce this is an exjw misconception and falacy. If this was the case there would be no jws today. As far as taking the book of mormon I am pretty sure the mormons dont need that anymore either.

    The Mormons hold the BOM higher than the Bible. In fact they'll ask you to pray over the BOM to see if its true, sounds like they need it to me.

    607, Where have you been? This date is paramount. It is the case, and there are Jws around.

    Do you think 1914 is just some date taken on a whim?

    Is it possible to reason...? no, not any more than you can reason with an avid football fan as to why his team are not as good as yours. it is just a case of 'belonging' ,and in a dispute, the 'Society' will always be right "After all it is Gods organisation, for all its faults"

    Da Cheech?. You and me both .. i know the problem.

    607? Yes it is still crucial. The end may have pushed a way a little further, but the belief that the last days began in 1914 is still paramount. It is a matter of credibility. Could they admit they were so wrong all these years?

    Here's two cents more: We know a "sister" whose entire family has been mistreated terribly by the "brothers," and she knows we have faded. Whenever we run into her, she starts complaining about some new injustice she's enduring, and when we tactfully suggest to her that, yes, there are a lot of problems in the congos these days, she immediately stops the conversation. "I don't want to hear anything negative," she says. So she goes on pioneering, pretending the problems are local and temporary and that she can outrun them if she just does more.

    Oh, and Kaye! Welcome to the board. You got lost in the shuffle back there somewhere. That happens a lot here!
