Annie ... believe it or not, I do really see your side of this picture. There are no absolutes when it comes to raising children. Everyone can only do the best they know. As for you regreting the last thirty years ... did some good come out of it?

I know people who've never been witnesses who regret many things in their past. Again, we can't change the past but hopefully we've learned something from it. Did you know there are no Norman Rockwell lives? If you hadn't been a witness all those years ... who knows ... your life may be worse now. Best to get on with life and try for a better future .. eh?

That's like saying to a recently freed inmate who served 30 years for a crime he didn't commit, "if you hadn't been imprisoned all those years . . . who knows . . . your life may be worse now."

    afin,

I have sat here giving this some thought -and I can't readily say that anything good (positive) came from it. My parents and my sister disowned me when I became a JW, and despite many letters from me (apologizing for disappointing them) they have remained cold. Even when I finally went to the family reunion in MA, my oldest son and sister and their kids, and my parents stopped attending because I was there. My oldest son was baptized and DFed and I shunned him---so they're all still upset at me for that. Except my Mom, who died hating me and made sure I knew it.

I have lost the privelege of having any communication with five of my eight grandchildren, they don't come to visit, they don't sit at the table and eat cookies and tell me about their day, and they don't come around at the holidays because I have hurt their parents. One grandson I could hand him a beer---because he turns 23 in March but I haven't seen him since he was six months old. They live ten minutes from here. It stinks and it hurts.

**I know people who've never been witnesses who regret many things in their past. Again, we can't change the past but hopefully we've learned something from it. Granted, about the Rockwell influence---but plenty of families I know get together during the holidays and SEE each other and SHARE their lives with each other. There are SO many hard feelings because of *my decision* to be a JW that I couldn't possibly list them.

As for the future---I'm not saying this to get pity, but to help you to see my reality......all those "healthy" years that I wasted on the WTS ratrace, and spending vacations at DC's with five kids while my nonJW hubby went camping and fishing (his vacation time ALWAYS came up at DC time).....now that I'm "free" of the TS, I've suffered two strokes and a heart attack, and I'm pretty much disabled. I can't even speak very well. I can't help but have regrets, between how my family turned out (with regards to me) and what I threw my life into which was striving for the wind for 30 years.

Most of the time I was too exhausted with household chores and keeping up with the "doing MORE syndrome" to spend what I NOW would consider "quality time" with my kids, not dragging them out in FS or to assemblies and meetings......but REAL things we didn't have TIME to do. It does break my heart. I was given these kids and I served a publishing company and put them and my husband on the back burner.

I'm just another statistic in the book of those who have left the WTS and had to pick up the pieces of what used to be my life. I'll go down fighting to try and prevent others from making the same mistakes---thinking they're serving God when they will be serving the WTS.

    THAT is my future,

    Annie

Annie ... thank you for the heart felt reply. I have sent you a pm as we are getting off topic ... AFIN.

all right, a few things first:

    what is a PM?

Morty: I dont really know exactly why it feels so good to skateboard. I think that its because, skateboarding lets you conentrate on the trick youre trying to make, so you forget all other problems except the one about landing the trick... maybe.

I think I see a little war going on in here. I dont want you to get personal at each other, cause I think its good that you give such different views on the subject. That makes it easier for me to "see" whats right and wrong.

I think all of you have great arguments, also AFIN. And to you: Do you really think my language have changed? from what? Was I talking like a wuss before or what? I dont think my language have changed, but I do think I have become more custom to this site and therefore can speak more freely and relaxed.

I dont think either, that Im too young to this site... yes, I am aware of that I get easily affected, but thats why its good you all have different thoughts and advice.

AFIN: you think the reason why I participate on this forum, is because it makes me feel good? Youre right, it does makes me feel good. Of course its nice to hear people say your smart, have courage etc. Whou wouldnt think that was nice? My thoughts are confirmed, by people who are or have been in the same situation or something simliar to what Im in.

No rules? well, thats one of the things that I dont like about the WT. All those rules, and all that time you waste at meeting and field service. But Im not going to disobey my parents completely, and say to go f*ck themselves... if I think they are unfair I'll let them now.

Btw AFIN: I just wondered, are you a JW or not?

    Filip ... yes, I am a JW.

No, you did not talk like a wuss before. A few times you've used this word ' f*ck ' and no decent person, no matter what age has to resort to 'gutter' talk.

You are, in fact too young for this site. I checked your profile and you participated in topic about porn. Do you think that looks good for this discussion board, in light of your age?

You must have missed the post I did on my being in a similar situation as you when I was your age. As it turned out, I grew up and now appreciate my mother's fine efforts. At your age, I felt about the same way you do now. I will not try to make you feel good ... just want you to look at your situation realistically.

Don't you think your father wants what is best for you? In the heat of the moment, he yelled at you. If that's the worst thing you have to face in life ... more power to you. Get real! These people here have known you for a few days and you are ready to disown your own family because they 'make you feel good'?

Be glad you aren't my son, if I found out you were doing this behind my back. You think you have troubles now! Did you read Ephesians 6:1,2 &3? Is that message also too unfair for you?

As I said before ... get out of here!!!!

lol, yes! Run to the center of Jah's loving visible organization. You are dangerously on the fringes, where the wolves of this world can pick you off.

And don't forget to put faith in a collection of disparate stories, patched together and called a book, that for the most part, no one knows exactly who wrote.

SixofNine ... you'd actually rather see him here???? Now that's a real future for a 15 year old! Are you all willing to house, feed and school him for the next 5 or 10 years?

Actually, your comments make my side look good ... thank you.

*LOL* You obviously haven't hung out with too many 15 year olds....

you are ready to disown your own family because they 'make you feel good'?

no one is telling him to do that and frankly you know better! If he told his dad he didn't want to go to meetings or be a Witness it would be he that was disowned. Witnesses have a tendency to want all the religious freedom they can get, but if friends or loved ones want to exercise their own they become rather intollerant. But AFIN knows this and is only trying to scare/guilt Filip into leaving or running away in fear.

Keep skating Filip! Gets you out of the house and takes your mind off stupid stuff that no young kid should have to deal with...BTW, I used to skate Alva boards

    Sincerely,

    District Overbeer
