    I'd rather say discontinuous...

he told me, very politely, that if I don't become a Christian that I am going to burn in hell. Im just really tired of these kinds of, imo, stupid belief systems.

While I acknowledge the previous posts that have stated that being a born-again Christian does not imply or necessitate affiliation with any denomination, the above is the often seen public "face" of born-again Chrisitianity. Some of the born again Christians that I know are blunter and more tactless in their Biblical pronouncements than the JWs. They're also notoriously ill-informed and judgemental about non-Christian religions to the point of being quite scary - reminiscent of JWs in this regard, unfortnuately. It is this "type" of born again individual that I react to negatively and I suspect, that others on this post have reacted to.

Waxing lyrical about stuff we are uninformed about is a totally human preoccupation. It's not limited to Fundamentalist-types, but it sure does take some excesses there.
    Makes ya sick, doesn't it?

    Pax.

Agreed. It's not so much the specific views - which, I agree, people are entitled to - it is the ferocious dogmatism that (some times) accompanies them.

I think I am the type of Christian who has finally mastered the art of listening. I do take to task self-proclaimed preachers who (in my opinion) are better at speaking than hearing. This should not be surprising. Joe the car salesman finds God. First thing Joe does is collar all his friends and relatives about this AMAZING DEAL he has just discovered. Problem is, Joe doesn't realize the HALF of the work that God wants to finish in him. First of all, that collaring friends and relatives with his latest AMAZING DEAL is really annoying.

Frequenting this board and listening, really listening to people has made me a more credible representative of my faith (I hope).

XJW's hear me, you are guilty of this, too. JW education consists of a long list of do's and don'ts. Too often you carry that same presentation style in to your new ex-lifestyle. Too often a newbie or a "I'm in love with a JW" wanders in here, and you shout, "DON'T DO IT!" Work on your reasoning and your persuasion skills. Encourage the person to work things out for themselves. Allow them the freedom to make bad decisions.

Sorry, I don't feel the need to be "born again".........As a jw all my life.....I got baptized for the right reason: "as a footstep follower of Christ" and try to live my life as closely to what he wrote...each and every day.

Now that I am out of "organized religion"...I don't ever feel the need for organized religion because it just lays extra rules that a true follower of Christ doesn't need. (IMHO............but each to their own...whatever makes you happy!!! So be it!!!)

    Ross,

I think it's a question of spiritual approach. I personally never could see a "relationship to God" as a permanent possession; rather some kind of (metaphorical) "place", or "state" we all come "in" and "out" many times.

    Ozzie,

Am I wrong in understanding your response as personally aggressive?
