The streets of child-free women is paved with nannies! Personally, I think it should be required job experience to be a nanny for at least a year before heading off to college. They should round up some humongous screaming families with about 8 children, and put every 18 y.o. in servitude for one year. I'd be willing to bet there would be far less "forgetting" to use the birth control!!!
How many of you are childfree by choice?

I don't know if I'd want a kid, especially at my age right now. I get embarrassed easily and kids make you have to do stuff that doesn't look cool like having to stop talking to someone at the supermarket in order to yell at them. Let's say I'm a single father or a guy that just got divorced and I'm trying to talk to some hot woman....."Yeah, I come here sometimes, you know the prices, they're pretty good....So I heard that...wait a second...Billy, didn't I tell you to stop doing that?! Huh? I'm not gonna tell you anymore!....Okay, so back to what I was saying....hold on again one sec....Billy, I told you, do not stand up on that.....I'm sorry, what was I saying to you?"
See, I couldn't deal with that.

My brother chooses not to have children, ever.
But me, I always knew I would have some kids...never condisdered not having them. I always wanted them in my future.
So I have them, and I love them and of course it is a hard job...but I just can't imagine not having them. And the blessings out weigh the bad stuff by far! I love being a mom, even with all the stress or worry. I can't imagine life without them. (I can imagine them growing up and moving out...that's cool! lol!)
I think if for some reason I could not have children, I would have adopted, or been a foster mother or something, for sure. But that is just me!
Everyone is different and everyone should be respected for their choices!

See, I couldn't deal with that.I agree... no-one should have to suffer having a child named 'Billy'. When will the suffering end. LOL

Oh, Jeez ... we were told by a doc that Mrs. O would have great trouble conceiving and that we were likely to be childless. And so we set about rutting like weasels, thinking that we could screw each others' brains out with no repercussions.
WRONG!
Sure enough, she wound up knocked up a few years later. And then a few years after that. Now, I can't deny either of the goobers because they look too much like me and they're bright and they're funny ... I could try, I suppose, but it ain't likely to succeed.
I guess you could say that we're 'child-endowed by medical malpractice'. Stupid freakin' doc. -

Gosh Jill, sounds like your husband didn't have much choice in being a parent ...
I heard somewhere that people only accuse the childfree of selfishness because they damn well wish they could be that selfish! I second that! Having a child is the hardest thing I've ever done & I've had to confront my own selfishness in the process - a battle I am far from winning! Saying that, though, the overwhelming love I now have for my daughter is a life-enriching experience, & she is a cool kid! Wish I could have had a few more years to get ready for this thing ...
I'm going to start another thread on unplanned pregnancies - join me there!

I have never had even the slightest desire to reproduce. My family is so messed up, I would be doing humanity a disservice by adding my seed to the gene pool.

I am childless by choice. Maybe if I had found the right partner I would have felt differently. I was also petrified that there could be something wrong with the child.
There have been a few times I wondered if I made the right decision. I worry that there will be no one to care for me when I am old. Although this is no guarantee because some children are heartless and do not care for aged parents.
Sometimes I see babies who are so cute that you just stop and think. -

I know what you mean Long Haired Gal - but its not a good reason to have kids anyway - just so they can look after you when your old. Better to save up, not have kids and go into one of those luxury old people's homes where you drink campagne everynight and have smoked salmon for breakfast and flirt with your fellow oldies and pinch the bottoms of the care workers.
