imho, the very embodiment of everything stupid and excessive in american culture.
to extrapolate on winston churchill's famous comment about democracy, capitalism is the worst economic system there is - except for all the others.
As far as I'm concerned, the new Hummers are just a bigger Tracker. Over the last few years, it seems the automotive industry has had one mold in different sizes. The original Hummers were alright I suppose, however you're talking to a man whose DREAM vehicle is a ' 68 longbox Land Rover.

yes ... you heard me correctly.
sometime ago we saw how chimps made tools by using other tools.
we saw how they learned language and could construct a basic sentance on their own, as well as learn to read a little ... well now ... a new study has been completed where monkeys were paid tokens for completing certain tasks ... the monkeys saved up their tokens ... and then they were offered to trade their tokens for things like food, etc.
Holy Cow, are you guys ever behind the times. Of course Simians are able to do these things herein discussed and more. Not only that, there has already been a movie AND several sequels proving this. If you want to know more, just check out Charelton Heston's website and/or that of the late Roddy Mcdowell.

how's the weekend going?
mrs ozzie and i have been very busy with friends.
had a drive in the countryside today and stopped at an english-style pub, replete with large beer garden where we had a great meal-- more like a feast, really; you know how generous the pub meals can be!
Hey, this could be the basis for a new TV show
"Survivor- JWdom"
Our survival as Witnesses depended on #''s 9,1,2, and 11.
9-We moved a great deal so we never really became trapped in the clique thing and by getting to know so many different people, we could be more broad-minded. (Now there's an oxymoron for you)
1-I'm a fairly outgoing kind of guy and always made it a point to get to know as many in the hall as possible, including the BoE( without getting too close of course). This usually helped my family feel more comfortable too.
2-We tried to get to the meetings early in order to chat briefly with others and wind down before the meeting started. We often gave others rides to the hall and this could be somewhat stressful, but we managed.
11- On many occasions we would linger for a while after the meetings and talk with others. This could drive Mrs. alfie to distraction as often she just wanted to go straight home. On these occasions we might arrange for her to get a ride home with somebody else.
11-FINALLY- We left.

Hi all,
My sister sent this to me and I thought it might bring a smile to your little faces.
A husband and wife are getting ready for bed.
The wife is standing in front of a full length
mirror taking a hard look at herself.
"You know love" she says, "I look in the mirror
and I see an old woman. My face is all wrinkled,
my boobs are barely above my waist, my bum is
hanging out a mile. I've got fat legs and my
arms are all flabby."
She turns to her husband says..... "Tell me
something positive to make me feel better about
myself."
He thinks about it for a bit and then says in a
soft voice... "Well...there's nothing wrong with
your eyesight.

the temperature in the uk tonight has dropped to 7 degrees celcius making it the coldest night in a long time, and what happens???
arachnoids head indoors.
boy, do i hate them.
It drives Mrs. alfie crazy, but I have trouble killing anything, bugs or otherwise. I'd rather carry them outside and let them go. Spiders are quite useful little critters actually and they don't bother me at all, indeed I find them quite fascinating.

how's the weekend going?.
mrs ozzie and i enjoyed a beach picnic with friends.
yes, there was plenty of shiraz!
I would have to say in virtually every hall we were in :#1and 5
It was a good time to quickly review one's part on the meeting, or catch a few quick ZZZZ's because our accounts servants seemed to all have the same monotone voice and you knew it was a real struggle for them to reach even that feverish pitch. Anyway, money to most of us was a pretty boring subject, because none of us had any.

one of the big issues affecting ex-jws is being shunned by their close relatives.
this can be especially painful for parents, children or siblings.
the jw relative may even make some exceptions to associate in the name of "necessary" business, but then later on their conscience "pricks" them, and they realize that they have pushed the envelope too much and they withdraw their association altogether ... or ... the society comes out with some article or the co comes to town, and manage to ding on some issue that make jws feel guilty about associating with df'd and da'd relatives.
Hi Jim, Thanks for posting this information. You're so right when you say many elders aren't aware of this proviso, so it's easy to understand why the R&F don't know about it. Given the methods used and attitudes expressed by so many of the zealots in the organization, it is also easy to understand the reactions of many to your post. However, now that you've enlightened us on the subject, maybe those who are inclined to compassion will use this knowledge in their future dealings with others. Thanks again

Not only do I vote (I am a B.C. Separatist), the provincial government here is forming a constituency association to examine electoral reform, and I am hoping to be selected to serve on that committee. Our system is modelled on the British Parliamentary System, but unfortunately it is a very poor and sloppy copy, one which discriminates against a huge number, often the majority, of constituents. Hopefully any reforms will address these problems. Then the challenge will be to speak to these same issues on a federal level.
