Did your family ever makeup holidays?
by MicStroz inthis may sound funny, but my family would celebrate every year a " gift day".
it would be in december but never the week of christmas.
we would get gifts for each other and have a family meal.

I'm new, where to start...
by Quietly Patient inhi everyone, i just wanted to sorta introduce myself and ask for some help...i've been lurking here for a while, i'm a 3rd generation witness, but thankfully never got baptized as i never liked being told what to do!
i've been fading for a good while now, ever since i moved out 7 years ago, only going to meetings and the memorial sporatically, of course with my mom and grandmother constantly pushing me to go back etc, etc, etc!
3 years ago i married a non jw, and i have a son who will be 2 soon, ever since i had him i kept feeling so guilty that i wasn't "doing the right thing" by him, and that if jehovah was going to judge him on my "works" then we both would be fried, that is such a horrible thought as a parent... anyway, i happened to do a search about who knows what approx.

Welcome QP,
It took me a long time to get over the brainwashing, but it does happen. Then I got angry for all the lost time in my life, going to meetings and studying and assemblies and special talks and SERVICE! How I wish I knew what I know now. You are still so young. Enjoy life and let your son enjoy it. Life is too short to spend in windowless kingdom halls sitting like zombies. Life is beautiful. Enjoy it!

by Corvin ini had to go to radio shack today to buy some wire for a project.
i was helping a friend with his electronic devices and was running late to meet him.
as i stood near the check out line, a woman softly spoke my name.

Sheeplike behaviour?
by boa ink, i just have to relate one of the most ridiculous situations i've ever been in and it happened at bethel.. as most of you know, they have a monday night wt study.
(this makes 3 times you study the article if you prepare for it, attend monday, then again on sunday - jeece!
) since in canadian bethel there isn't enough room to have everyone in the kh they have there, they put others in 'satellite' rooms and hook up with video/sound.. anyway, one night, the study had ended and we were moving on to the song when the sound kicked out but the video still worked.

Yep! These people all act like robots or clones or something. Everyone does the same thing and they can't function outside the circle.

Isn't it great to be free of that burden??? I carried that fear with me for at least 10 years. I always wondered how many years I had left or would I be able to see my kids get married before.......the big day. Now I'm so relieved to be free of that. Life seems so much brighter now. I am very bitter tho about how that brain washing ruined so many years of my life. I may never get over that part of it.

Many people do not show affection- why is this?
by gumby inwe all know people who will not show affection to those they love or care deeply about.
why cannot a father who loves his daughter deeply...........ever hug her and tell her how much he loves her?.
why cannot some spouses tell their mate they love them?.

Joanna,
I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps up the guard. It's my protection, my safety line. But when I need someone's help or caring......I let my guard down and yes it's scary. If the response is not what you want, the guard goes back up and won't come down for a very long long time.

I'm I the only one here that..................
by reganashe injust hate religion all together.
i don't want to have anything to with it, it makes my skin crawl.
i don't want my daughter to be exposed to relgion in any form.

Your not the only one...it makes my skin crawl too. Our late governor Jesse Ventura once said (and got himself into trouble for) that religion is for the weak minded. Wow! That was pretty powerful to say, but I'm afraid that I myself have to agree with him. I hope I haven't offended anyone

Views of the real true religion
by dustyb inwhy does everyone say that there is one true religion?
i've never gotten that point since i was a little kid.
i was raised in a penecostal family, so i knew some of the world, and some of jw....but every time i got around the jw's they would force that they only held the truth.
-
Strawberryfieldsforever
dustyb,
I now hate how the JW's say they have the true religion. I've been out long enough now to see how some of the other religions in my small town act. My neighbor is trying to get me to church (She's Methodist). The only thing I like about her attitude is that she doesn't claim to have the true religion. She just wants me to go to ANY church cause she's worried about me. I don't have the heart to tell her that I don't believe in God anymore. The point I'm making is this: Not all religions think they are the only ones with the truth.......The JW's have shoved that down my throat for so many years that they ruined me for life. Now I don't believe anything about any religion......I really do hate them for that.
