A Mormon friend of my son's recently had a very large spread/interview/photos of himself in a sports magazine - great article - BUT - the kid is on a mission for two years and is NOT ALLOWED to see/read the issue during this time. Nor allowed to participate in his sport - he will lose his sponsors and come home to have to start all over in his dream to be a pro. He's on the mission for his parents sake. Control is rampant there too.

Why the Watchtower should learn from Mormons
by metatron ini suppose some people would say that there's no such thing as a 'good' cult.
however, it should be apparent.
that some cults are worse ( or better) than others.. in the midst of my visit to an area with 'rich' witnesses, it occurred to me that they imitated mormons a bit, without.

I am new to the board
by Pinned Blouse inhello everyone, i am new to this discussion board.
my name is pinned blouse because once i was wrongly df'd and i no longer attended the meetings, i noticed all my blouses had pin holes in them where i fastened safety pins in them to make sure i was always "modest" lol.
mind you i do not have large boobies but i did not want to "tempt" the brothers.. .

Find a Jehovahs witness group in Calgary
by Peng Zhao ini am interested in jehovah witness.
and i am living at calgary.
could anyone tell me how to contact jehovah witness group in calgary?
-
4JWY
Hello Peng Zhao ~
If you enjoy discussion, the Witnesses may not be what you are looking for. There is no freedom of expression at their meetings as all the answers to questions are given to you in the publication that is being read together. One merely parrots the thoughts of the Watchtower society's anonymous authors. Opinions are not allowed to be expressed freely and independent thought is not appreciated or encouraged. Reading of non-JW materials is not allowed and a person can be removed from the organization if they do so.
I share these thoughts with you as someone who for the first time in my life, after 40 years as a JW, is finally appreciating true freedom of thinking and expression separate from their organization.
Warm regards,

Judgemental
by blobby inare we told not to judge other......leave it to jah ...blah blah blah.

When inquiring of me and wondering " where I am at", I told the elder that if I heard about "death and destruction" and judgemental words from the platform one more time, I would go running out of the Kingdom Hall screaming.
The next elder that came to my door - in conversation, I pointed to the house across the street and the house next door and told him that I NOW can go and talk to my neighbors without any ulterior motive and/or fear of their "worldliness", and judging them. I said that I walk through WalMart without looking at every person they would think is a weirdo, and judging them as unfit to live too. He had no comment.
edited to add: Yes, welcome blobby!

JW Aging Parents/ Rest Homes
by 4JWY infor those of you with aging jw parents/friends, i would like to pose a question: .
if the time came when they would need to reside in a senior assisted living facility of some kind - would the jw belief regarding close association with "the world" keep them from moving in?
the wts does not provide any kind of jw home environment for the elderly/infirm and when folks have had their thinking controlled by the org and taught the dangers of "the world" for much of their lives, this can be an especially traumatic time.

avishai and xj:
Thank you guys ~ and avishai, it's o.k. - believe me, I understand ~ Be well !
Yes, xj -Nobody should take lightly the constant negative thinking taught and reinforced by the org - AND, it's affects on the psyche -
- when one has lived with it for decades, it takes it's toll, even if one doesn't recognize it himself. In my dad's case, there were other factors involved. Being bipolar, the JW lifestyle/belief system wasn't the best fit for him. It came down to severe depressive episodes and agitation. The way he reconciled it was that, as his note stated, Jehovah knows all and he would be the judge. Sad to say, but - it's actually easier to accept his action, than to see the way he was feeling each day.

Dear kls: (((())))
I don't even know what to say at this moment as I am fuming - and if my husband was here to read your last thought, he'd be huntin' for your husband. Nothing burns him more than knowing the crap that women put up with from men- no, what I meant to say, is, the crap that men dish out to women!!! Am I reading correctly - your husband IS JW? and he has called you FB all the years??? You deserve more, much more. Believe it.
I hope you make fast tracks outta there. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to! You have friends here and I know, unfortunately, that many have experienced similar conditions in their marriages and will be able to offer you support and suggestions.
Beaming positive thoughts your way...
