The Food and Drug Adminstration Act wasn't passed until the early 1900's. Maybe Russell and his "close" associates lit up more than just a cigar, hey?

I once told an elder in my cong. who had very negative views about some sports, but who himself loved fishing, that if he didn't quit putting down golf and basketball from the platform that I would weave into a talk how fishing was ungodly. I then proceeded to cite three scriptures to him. He lay low about his personal opinions on sports for a while.
My point to him was that if you are determined enough, you can labor a few scriptures to say whatever you want them to. And that's what the WTS does. They're wholly dishonest and corrupt. They are not and have never been part of the Body of Christ because they shut up the kingdom of God to their members a lifetime ago. They are anti-christ and, moreover anti-spirit, and that is the very reason there is no love and no truth within their ranks: neither christ nor the spirit of God are within their midst. And when people think about leaving, it is because they have not felt Christ or God's spirit within their congregation. Everything JW is forced and enforced. Paul said that where the Spirit of God was, there was freedom also. Where is the freedom in the Org? There is only freedom OUTSIDE the Org. JW's who love God do well to heed his warning: Get out of her, my people!
Thanks Blondie.

A letter read to the BOE about a year ago gave the elders explicit instructions on what to do in case of an emergency like a hurricane. The main thing I walked away with after that meeting is that Book Study Oveerseers were to collect phone numbers, cell numbers, the names and contact info of relatives of all in the Book Study. He in turn would give this info to the secretary who would compile a master list and give to each elder. The PO would then transmit this list to the CO. In the event of something like Katrina, the Book Study Overseer was instructed to contact each family in his group, ascertain what preperations they had made in advance of the coming event, if any, and then report that to the PO, who would reprot to the CO. They want the cong. to KNOW who is staying, who is leaving, where they will be, whom they will be with, and the ability to get in touch with them. No specific mention of any supplies was made that I can recall except for the observation that any living in an area where they may be subject to such events should keep water and non perishables in sufficient supply to ride out the period between the initial event and the arrival of external aid. The BOE where I was in took it upon themselves to have the BS Overseers make lists of what each family should have on hand and distribute this to their BS members. The thinking was that there was no way an elder could, on the eve of a coming hurricane, make sure all the families in his BS group had supplies on hand and if not get those supplies for them, take care of his job, and take care of his family.
Three weeks after this letter was read to my BOE the secretary asked me for my home number. I told him it was non-published and he couldn't have it. He insisted, quoting from the letter that was read. I thanked him for his concern and told him in no uncertain terms that I was very capable of taking care of my own family and he wasn't getting my number or cell number.
That weekend we went to dinner at the house of a couple we are close to. Their pantry was stocked with guess what? Canned foods, bottled water, candles, first aid kit. (Very out of character for these two.) I asked the wife what that was all about, and she said her husband gave her a lsit of things to get and stock in case of an emergency.
While none of this seemed like a bad idea to me, what I found intolerable was the WTS reach into every crevice of a person's life. They find nothing that is off limits.

Was man created perfect?
by moshe inthe bible explains that adam and eve were created human and because they had eaten from the tree of knowledge good and evil, they became almost like god and the angels.- gen 3:22-24. they knew the difference between good and bad, which the rest of the animals did not.
god kicked them out of the garden of eden to keep them from eating from the tree of life and becoming immortal- just like god.
if they had been able to get to the tree of life, they could have lived forever.

Though I do not agree with everything said, I never fully accepted the whole Garden of Eden story as purely a historical recounting. Even as a child growing up as a JW,
I felt that Adam and Eve should get another chance to get it right. We were always told that humans make mistakes and what we do with the knowledge of those mistakes
is what determines our character, whether good or bad. Adam and Eve never had that chance. They weren't allowed a mistake. They had to get it right the first time and facing forces
which were smarter and more powerful than they were. They had no frame of reference, only a direct command (according to the story.) They were in many respects like children.
The more you look at it the more it looks like they were almost destined to fail, or maybe succeed depending on how you look at it.
As for the concept of perfection, that's something I never found in the Bible. Sin and sinlessness, perhaps--- but not perfection.
Maybe God got what he wanted after all---- beings who struggle, grope, even in the dark for something better, something more---- maybe it's the struggle that makes us beautiful to God.
Children who make lemonades from lemons, who do the best they can, and who love deeply and with fire even in the face of death.
I know that I would rather struggle and learn then be some lobotomized replica of the "perfect" man.
