I think everything has its time & place, including cursing.
The only word I try to avoid is the "C-word", since that one irritates Mrs. O like no other word. Funny thing is, she usually curses more than I do.
one of the comments i have heard many times is what good manners i display.
i open doors, allow others to cut in line ahead of me, say please, thank you and may i all the time, stand for a lady and many other simple little and often goofy actions that seem to have been lost on the current generation.
in fact the thing that attracted my present girlfriend was her observation of my good manners.

are you happy about who you are?
do you look down upon yourself?
are ya feelin' pretty good about yourself these days??
You ask the tough questions, don't you Min? hmmmm .. having grown up in an environment where I was always piushed to do more, it's hard to overlook my faults. People compliment me on some of the things that I do, but when I look at those things, I generally see only the mistakes that I made or the parts that I would like to have improved. I don't look down on myself, per se, but I do continually push myself to do more and to do better. Failure is not an option.
hey all,.
ok...i know for a fact that you have all probably heard this before but i am new here so i don't really know all the topics that have been discussed.
so, at the risk of repeating past topics.....here i go.... i am 16 years old and have a boyfriend who is a jw.
Obveously, his parents do...ALOT, For the longest time they were actually taking his cellphone away from him at night to make sure he wasn't calling me. They don't now, but he still has to be careful of when he calls me coz they can't catch him on the phone with me. And we are never allowed see each other out side of school. Now, it turns out that its not only the family that has a problem with it, but his freinds too! His close friends basically told him to choose either them and the religion or me.
I think you have already discovered one of the core issues: control. The JWs are big on control ... and if you don't play along, you are summarily booted out of the organization (disfellowshipped), losing friends & family in the process (because they now have to shun you). How are you going to feel about being manipulated & coerced for the rest of your life?
how many of u know jws who operate businesses out of their home, backyard, or garage?
here, in my city, as it is many places, it is against the city law.
u can't do it b/c it generates traffic and downgrades the property in your area.
I gave up on being a JW a LONG time ago, but I run a business out of my home. Very few of my customers actually come here. Most of them deal with me by phone & e-mail & fax. Others I see at their place of business.
my husband went to take our dog out for his nightly walk last night and as they were headed down the staircase (dark) there was something flipping around.
both my husband and dog ran back upstairs.
we both peeked around the corner and shined a flashlight on it.
Bats will pretty much live anywhere they can find shelter and a ready supply of their favorite foods.
Yep. Around here, the smaller bats like to live under the loose bark of shagbark hickory trees. They also will set up housekeeping in attics and church belltowers and any other place that provides a dark, cool refuge during the day. We see them regularly at dusk, flying around snatching mosquitoes & other insects.
We do periodically get them in the house. The most memorable occasion was right after our daughter was born. Mrs. O woke me at about 2 am & told me there was a "bird" flying around our bedroom. I finally got out of bed & beat it to death with a 2 x 4, then went back to sleep.
There was a dead bat lying at the bottom of our porch steps this morning, too. One of the cats likes to kill bats, but he refuses to eat them.
the missus and i are ready to pack up and get out of chicago for a few years, from the research we've done ohio seems like a nice place to consider.
we're basically looking for an inexpensive area to buy a home in, (100-200k price range) suburban areas are preferrable.
we both plan on taking off from fulltime for a couple of years, the first year we may not do anything outside of taking up a few classes.
Toledo ain't too bad. I used to go thru there every week or two on business, and the surrounding communities seemed affordable. The other plus to Toledo vs. Dayton, Columbus, or Cincy is that if you're heading back to Chicago to see friends & family, it's just a straight shot across I-90. I would look at some of the smaller burbs & bedroom communities on the west & southwest side of Toledo ... probably Holland, Sylvania, Maumee, Waterville, or Perrysburg.
Decent city, good access to large metro areas within a couple hours drive (Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinatti), close to Lake Erie, good educational opportunities if you're going back to school ... depends on what else you're seeking.
i`m sorry if its been asked before, but now you don`t go to meetings what do you do.. i thought i would have loads of time, no more rushing around, and going without your dinner till after 10o`clock.
apart from just being at home which is nice, i`m not doing much more.
not that i`m complaining .. .
Same thing we do every night, Pinky: try to take over the world.
the late wt president, fredrick franz, the most prolific writer the wts had since rutherford was probably also the author of the article about young girls being like cow''s.
in that article he revealed to the world his almost limitless ignorance about human sexuality.
ignorance and lack of knowledge has of course never stopped any wt writer, most of the time it has even been a necessity for them not to have a clue about what they write about.
I'm seriously considering that as an option for my next vacation!!
Be sure to bring back souvenirs, Mac!
here is an excerpt from an article i was reading.. you can read the full and much longer version here.. http://www.jwinfoline.com/documents/death/suicide.htm.
a problem common among jehovah's witnesses is the feeling that they are not going to make it to live past armageddon.
even though they keep a rigorous schedule of activities designed to earn them a righteous standing with jehovah, the witnesses themselves are keenly aware that they fall far short of the perfect standard set by god.. why do so many jehovah's witnesses consider suicide at one time or another?
Damn, LE. That was sad.
i have collected sayings, homilies, whatever along the way that crystallize something bigger i learned.
i will post a few every day.
if you have one, please share it.. if you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.. to belittle is to be little.. somewhere, i got the idea if i just took care of others, i would be taken care of.. blondie
