Can You Discern What The Society Is Really Saying?
by minimus inso much of the watchtower is written in "code".
so much of the circuit and district overseers comments are spoken in "code".
for example, you are not told directly that you shouldn't read any other publication but the society's, but you are asked, "how could anyone spiritual ever have the time to keep up with their bible-based reading of all the spiritual food that we must take in, and still have time to read "worldly" books?

Does your kid believe in Santa Claus?
by JH inof course witnesses don't teach santa to their children, for obvious reasons.
do you see anything wrong in telling your young child that santa exists?
for those who want to follow santa, go to this site, but you will need real 1 player.. http://www.noradsanta.org/

The Government & Disfellowshipping
by Mary infrom everything i've read here, the jist seems to be that if you're disfellowshipped, you have little chance of winning a lawsuit against the borg because the government still gives them the right to "shun" members if they see fit.. it occurred to me that perhaps we're ignoring a potential ray of light at the end of the tunnel.
what if we tried to lobby the government into changing this, so that it would be illegal for any religion to shun former members?
it's a long shot maybe, but if it could be shown (maybe on another program like dateline) of how unfair, cruel and inhumane it is to tell people they must shun family members or close friends simply because they don't think the same way as them, then maybe eventually, one day, a law would be passed forbidding shunning in any religion.. it's not just ex-witnesses that would support this: ex-mormons, ex-scientologists, ex-seventh day adventists etc.

While I view the JW practice of shunning as cruel and unusual punishment and don't like it anymore than the rest of you, it is still a matter of choice. I have JW relatives who shun me because I left the Watch Tower. But that is their constitutional right. Just as it was my constitutional right to leave the JWs. If the government took away our rights to choose whom we want to associate with we would cease to be a republic and become a dictatorship.
Sincerely,
Athanasius

Jehovah's Witnesses Should Show An Identity Card
by minimus ini went to the public talk given by the c.o.
and the whole theme was that jw's should wear an identity card so that everyone would know who they were.we should feel happy that by our merely voicing our position as jw's, that everyone knows what we are and who we stand for.
we should be happy to make a stand and sit down for the flag salute, to show we won't worship it.

Perhaps each JW should carry an identity card. That way they could be card carrying JWs.
Sincerely,
Athanasius

Millions now living, expect to be DA'd
by cyberguy innew strategy to da/df millions who have left.
i'm wondering if there isn't a new policy of da'ing all those who no longer attend or are inactive "publishers" (find that in the bible!).
i've read a number of threads on this board whereby people are now being hunted-down, nazi-fashion, if when queried, "are you one of jw?

It sounds like JW land has become like Stalinist Russia of the 1930s. The JWs are about to experience a major purge of unfaithful party members.

What Did You Hate About The Circuit OV.'s Visit?
by minimus ini think that there a number of things about the circuit overseer's visit that stinks!
one thing that i hated was how all the elders got together to "shepherd" the flock right before the co's visit.....what bothered you about the week long visit??

Some will go back
by JH ini would like to know how many people here are thinking of going back to the hall if the elders go and visit them.
we had stories of people telling the elders that they had enough and wanted to get out.
on the other hand, i am sure a few will go back, but we will not hear their stories as much because they fear the reaction of this board.

Hi Blondie,
It is fun. The JWs have never caught on. In talking with them always use regular church terms. Refer to their meetings as services, the Bible reading as the Old or New Testament lesson. Ask them what a "system of things" is. Tell them how much you like their church. Its also useful to tell them that you have relatives who are JWs. I've attended a number of their meetings and they never caught on. In fact I think they counted the time that they spent talking to me.
Sincerely,
Athanasius
