No help from the JW brotherhood?
by greendawn induring your time as jws were there times that you were in need for some help from the jw brotherhood but felt let down because no one cared to help you?
did you feel resentful and began to suspect that this org is heartless and hypocritical?

Serendipity,
Sad story, but unfortuantely all too common. You realize now that they have conditional 'love', and most of the time not even that.
They didn't care about me. They didn't care about my child.
Single mothers are the pariah of the congregation. You don't get invited into the 'cliques' because you don't have a mate. You can't help with the congregation duties (cuz you're a woman) and usually can't contribute much financially, so you're basically expendable.
I about want to when I think about all the lies we were told concerning the 'love' in the congregation.....

In love with a JW, HELP!!!
by secretlove in14 years ago i was a sophomore in high school and fell head over heels for a senior (we'll call him mike) who wasn't really in to me.
i was raised catholic and he, a jw.
i wrote him lots of notes, sent him teddy bears and tried to win his heart.

Are you sure you're still in love with who he is now, or the memory of something that made you feel good when you were a teenager? Maybe before you talk about divorcing your spouses, etc, you should make sure. Are you sure you're in love, or just suffering from years of an 'ideal' that you couldn't have?
Whatever you decide, do NOT become a JW - you have NO idea what you're in for. The congregation will NOT accept you if you wreck their 'happy' home.

Wifey and I like 'American Idol' when it gets down to the last 10 or so. I don't know where they are in the mix - didn't see it - but I hate the early stuff where all the people come on that think they can sing and sound like sick geese in a clamp!
See, that's the ONLY part I like. And I'm ashamed to admit that I even watch that much of it. Reality TV is a waste of airtime and brain space. I think Simon's hilarious - how can you not laugh at someone who takes himself so seriously.

Why is society so obsessed with doctors and pills?
by free2beme ini went to the doctor last fall to have my cholesterol tested and it was high.
rather then telling me to diet, exercise and other natural advice.
i was handed a prescription for something to lower my cholesterol, and sent on my way.

It is very likely that doctors receive commissions for putting people on cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) that's why they are trying to push them, but as already mentioned these drugs are quite toxic to the body. Not to mention that the cholesterol-heart disease link was never really proven. Statins are by far the most profitable products for the pharmaceutical companies.
I was a drug rep for four years with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals - they market the statin "Crestor". Statins are profitable, but not the most profitable. AZ had, for a time, the best selling drug in the world in Prilosec. And there are oncology drugs and some antibiotics that are enormously profitable.
The pharma business is a dirty one, as the recent Vioxx scandal has proven. The FDA is a joke. However, I've never known of a physician to receive a 'commission' for a product. A lot of times it boils down to what rep they like, what 'the specialists' are prescribing, and which company brings them the best lunches and takes them to play golf. Statins work - that's a fact. But they can lead to, in a low percentage of patients, other problems, especially liver problems.
It is generally accepted medical principle that the cholesterol-heart disease link is solid. There are a number of other risk factors for heart disease, but most physicians acknowledge that it is a solid theory. I'd be interested in seeing research that shows otherwise...

have elders ever been sued successfully?
by silentWatcher inquote: what i am waiting for is one of their rank and file elders to get sued over this issue and some of the hospital liaison puppets to lose everything he owns because of it.
this point was brought up in the "big news has started" thread (and is now buried on page 3).
interesting point, and i wonder if anyone has ever heard of a case where elders have been successfully sued over judicial matters (slander / libel) or wrongful death (blood)?

there are many elders who do what they do because they truly believe that it is the right thing, that they are acting on behalf of God's organization
As the Nuremburg trials illustrated, doing something immoral is not justified by 'following orders' or believing in a misguided ideal. I have heard serveral elders and ex-elders state that at times they did things they felt were neither right nor just in regards to judiciary matters. But, they did what they were 'advised' to do by the Society. If individual elders were sued, regardless of their motives, then they may think twice about df'ing someone, or possibly about being elders at all.
The hard thing about suing over things like this is that the legal system views it as a 'you know the rules, either play by them or leave' situation. They assume you were aware when you became a JW what the rules were, so you must follow them. If you don't like them, then leave the org. Proving mental anguish and that type of thing is very difficult as well, so that may be difficult to sue over.
I want to see a civil suit brought by someone who was molested by a brother after someone else reported it and they were let off the hook because there weren't two witnesses. I want to see a civil suit by a JW who claims they didn't take blood based on info in the blood brochure and prove that it was misquoted and/or taken out of context and thus led to injury or death.

Excellent video. A little old. Did you notice how smug the two (I presume they are elders) they interview at the convention are?
Makes me mad all over again....

DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT JESUS FORGIVES ADULTERERS?!!!
by LittleToe inomg, i believe he did!.

INteresting that in John 8 he didn't tell her "O.k...you're forgiven, but we can't speak to you for a period of months until we feel that you're REALLY repentant."

As I see it, you want to simply return to the state of someone who was never baptized. Not active, but not dissed either. Uh, I don't think it works that way. Once you've been dissed, you either have to get reinstated or remain df'd, with all the privileges that implies...lol.
My biggest question is 'why'? You've been out this long, you probably know from the boards what a destructive cult it is - just leave it alone. Be happy you're out.....

Symbolic generation. Does it extend batting time for WTBTS?
by Spectrum inbefore coming on this forum i didn't know that the jws had changed the generation definition from literal to symbolic and i obviously predicted that this religion will be finished when that last 1914 codger dies.
when i found out that they had changed their definition i thought, bloody hell this religion is going to go on forever.
then i thought that no, they are going to fade out, then i settled on, they are going to survive just like the catholics and orthodox.

Some people need a regimented structured life style and JWism offers that aplenty.
I can't agree more. I work with people like that (I'm sure we all do) who must be and like to be told what to do every step of the way. They lack independent thinking and don't want the pressure of having to make decisions and analyze information.
Some people want to find the 'easy' way to salvation. "Do this and you'll be saved" they are told, so they do 'this' - whatever it is - in hopes of garnering sure salvation. They don't want to study the Bible on their own, or interpret scriptures. They are mentally lazy to an extent - they can memorize the reasonings of others (FDS), but that does not make them mentally astute.
Thus when you present evidence to the contrary, they are afraid to listen, because then they will have to think and decide on their own.
I agree with a post a few days ago where someone stated that the JW's are being 'dumbed down' because the truly critical thinkers are jumping ship, leaving the 'repeaters' of information they truly don't understand.
