When i see NGO and proof that the WTS has shares towards a weapons Manufacturer, its like my brain thinks of excuses for it. Most of my doubts have come from Doctrinal Falsehoods related to science (dinosaurs, evolution) and the fact that there is still a remnant when clearly all of them should be dead by now.
same for me. i think the NGO issue and similar things are more interesting for long time JWs who conciously lived the 70's and 80's. for us younger people doctrinal issues and all the contradictions seem to be more interesting.
as to baptism of children, i've always raged at that. had endless debates about it. if someone is viewed as not mature enough to marry, how could they possible be viewed as mature enough to get baptized. both are supposed to be life-changing and life-long decisions.
but the reason is simple. somewhere i've read that most humans don't change their way of life very much after their mid to end twenties. if someone wasn't baptized until that age s/he most probably never will be.
so they probably think it could have the opposite effect if they baptize them at a young age. sometimes this works. but fortunately mostly not.

Why do they let Children Get Baptized?
by Dune inso i've been wondering about it recently.
i was baptized when i was 11 years old and have been a witness for about 8 years now.
since i was 11 (yes, since 11) i've been reading the watchtower, doing the mics and all that stuff.

KATE MOSS OR KATE WINSLET?
by Mary ini just read that kate moss has been given more modelling jobs now that she's been a whole month "clean" of using cocaine which is how she kept her body at skin and bones.
i hear lots of women say they'd "love to have a body like hers", when we know the only way she can keep that skinny is by using drugs.
i was told that i was "just jealous" and that "all women would like to be that thin.

Alone
by pureclob ini am a 25 year old female, and have been studing the truth for the past 2years.
my mother taught it to me since i was little, it always made sense to me and was something i wanted in my life.i hadn't made it a big part of my life, until two years ago when i started my own study.
i am getting older and would like to meet someone to be with who is a jehovahs witness, or someone like me who is working towards that.
-

hi pureclob,
i'm still a jehovah's witness.
this actually aint an anti-jw site, but a site where everybody can talk about their personal experiences with or within the watchtower society. if you stay here for a while you'll find out that there are a lot of awesome people on here.
and i'm glad you know what you want and you're on it with all your heart. but never forget to also use your other senses. and never be afraid to ask "why".
why do i not feel any better although i'm trying to serve god?
why is the watchtower society so afraid of "apostates"? do they have better arguments than the (so called) "truth"?
why .... ? never stop asking.... -

Is the Bible really inerrant?
by greendawn indo you think the bible is inerrant ie has absolutely no erroneous information or does it contain some errors?
if it does is its credibility destroyed?
i personally think that a great deal in the bible is false but still the basic ideas are correct.

not all contradictions mentioned by the SAB are huge bummers. but there are lots of interesting ones. like, how long does god's anger last? are we held accountable for the sins of others? and especially the comparisons between samuel/kings and chronicles.
also have a look at the "(failed) prophecy" section.
there might be many better sites on special topics out there, but the SAB is a good place to start and is a good collection of contradictions and problems in the bible. personally i didn't care much about the naming "contradictions" either... but the rest :-) -

Esther was not exemplary
by rebel8 ini watched a documentary on the discovery channel about esther's life.
i was reminded that--despite how many times i was told as a jw girl that esther was a role model--here are the things she did:had sex with the king before she was even engaged to marry him.
(according to the documentary--i don't remember that part)spent much of her time doing beauty regimens.married an unbeliever.participated in politics.concealed her ethnic background and religious beliefs.purposely got her husband and his friends drunk.only stood up for her fellow believers after being begged to by her dad and even then did so by a serious of manipulations.. if there were chat rooms back then, esther probably would have visited them too.

ne could wonder exactly how much clothing she kept on, was her clothing revealing, what kind of pagan music was being played, were pagan gods mentioned in it, what would moses have thought about it all?
according to celebated scholars, esther was a huge baalstreet boys fan. some pagan god's were mentioned in songs, for example the tune "what if baal was one of us"? special attention was put on not listening to songs like "sympathy for the molech" though. -

Showing Self Control
by Cori inwe spent some time at the in-laws this past weekend (they are very serious jws) and i literally became sick to my stomach.. how does those that are fading handle the visits with family or in-laws that are still jw?
how do you contain the constant need to blow up and answer everything they are spewing??.
btw, sunday came around, and we went to breakfast in the morning.missed the meeting without a hint of regret.

i'm almost in the same boat, only my wife is also a mostly believing JW...
the longer you fade, the better an actor you become. and the more control over you'r stomach you get. i now can sit through a meeting without feeling like vomiting. well, almost.
when i'm invited by my family or other JWs, i simply keep quiet when the org topic comes up (it always does...). i sometimes throw in some words that don't get me into an argument. i can even say the prayer before the meal (if they knew i'm an atheist!). and i think i perform better prayers now than ever before. -

Interview with God (Let's write one!)
by AlmostAtheist ingod's been pretty quiet lately, and frankly, i think people have largely forgotten about him.
it's time that he took center stage again and reminded people he's there.
unlike in the past though when he might have killed somebody, floated an axe head, or caused some sort of atmospheric anomaly, today he'd be much more likely to simply show up on the today show for an interview.. let us assume that's what happened.
-
googlemagoogle
interviewer: there are millions of different religions and beliefs. do you have any preference on how you want to be worshipped?
god: i knew you would ask this question - as you might have expected *giggles*. seriously, i don't remember who started with all that worshipping ideas. what do you want to accomplish by worshipping me or anyone else for that matter. please stop doing it. it's annoying. and it won't do you any good.
if you'd stop wasting your time with church services or worse, door-to-door preaching, and start focussing on real matters, like environmental and humanitarian issues, you wouln't always need to come complaining and whining about me letting things happen. -

religion
by roymond inthroughout jesus' life, the only thing he ever reacted to in either a judgemental way or angrily, was religion.
he got angry enough with the people in the temple, whowere persecuting the poor and stopping people coming to god, that he whipped them and kicked them out the temple.
indeed there are plenty of examples where jesus calls people hypocrites, for demanding rules and not following them themselves.
-
googlemagoogle
welcome to the board, roymond!
you say jesus never threw a stone and loves everyone, but what do you think about the son of man coming with a sword and armies of angels as depicted in revelation?
btw: to live a good life and treat other people well doesn't require the bible or any other "sacred" text, a religion or a (relationship with [a]) god[s].
