The WTS will no doubt explain that "that was then, this is now." And yet, whenever it is convenient, they will immediately present another Old Testament story to support one of their modern-day teachings. Sometimes the OT applies to today, and sometimes it doesn't, y'see. The yardstick? Does it support their ever-changing "present truth" at the moment?

Was Daniel seperate from the world?
by JimmyPage indaniel accepted appointment to a high position in the babylonian political structure and even requested administrative positions for three of his friends.
yet daniel is held up as an example to us for being willing to face death rather than be disloyal to god.
how would daniel have been treated today by the wt society for such actions?

I'm wondering what her response would be if I'd said I believed the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses was a manipulative, mind-control cult. Perhaps...
"Well what would you say to a free home bible study?"

So for the first time that I am aware of it, in my twenty-six months in this house, a JW came to my door. I ran to my office to grab the script I'd prepared to recite should a JW ever come by. It turns out she was engaged in the tract campaign. She merely said this was some reading material for me. But I caught her by pleasantly saying, "Oh, this is the new tract?"
"Yes, are you familiar with us?"
I didn't end up using any of my script. Simply stated that, yes, I was familiar with them, that I had about thirty family members who were JWs, that I had served an an elder for some time, and that after much research had come to see that the WTB&TS was not what it purported to be. Her reply?
"So have you thought about coming back to the Kingdom Hall?"
"Now why would I do that since I no longer believe what they teach there to be true?"
We actually spoke for a couple of minutes, and she listened to me without a lot of attitude. I ended by suggesting she keep her wits about her and really try to test whatever evidence exists that they represent God's "sole channel of communication," and consider whether it really was right for them to cut people off from members of their family for merely disagreeing with this.
She left respectfully.

You cant bring your own food and drink...TSA regs
Huh? Again, constant traveler here, and the TSA has no such regulation. The only thing you can't get through security is liquids...unless you're smart about it. Remember that liquid is allowed--as long as it's in containers of 3.4 ounces or less and in a quart size plastic bag. So, in preparation for my flight to San Francisco tomorrow afternoon, I presently have such a quart size plastic bag filled with eight shot bottles of Bacardi Light Rum. (To keep costs down, I refill them at home from a half-gallon bottle through a funnel when they run low.) Each of those shots is about 2 ounces, well within the guideline. I place that bag in the tray along with my other personal items every weekend, and no TSA person has ever questioned it. Most airlines provide free soda, but if it's US Air (and I'm not in First Class) I just buy a Diet Coke after I go through security. You can also bring any other non-liquid snack you please, and--yes--even a burger and fries from three gates down.

My day of Awakening: September 15, 2004. Less than three weeks later, I finally began to write down my thoughts, and the subject of this thread is what I started with. This is how I put it then...
10/4/2004
What follows is my attempt to comprehend information that challenges whether or not the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses is what it claims to be—and what I’ve always held it to be, namely the sole channel of communication from Almighty God, through Christ Jesus, to humankind.
At 38 years of age and having lived as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses my entire life, I came to believe that the only way to be found acceptable by God is to be a dedicated, baptized member of this organization. While this is a teaching of the organization, it is also true that the Watchtower Society definitely stresses the need to “make the Truth your own.” When non JWs would ask me, “So do you believe that only Jehovah’s Witnesses will get into God’s Kingdom?” I would answer in a typically diplomatic fashion.
“Only God knows who he will and will not allow into His kingdom; that decision certainly isn’t up to us. We do recognize though that He does not accept just any form of worship. We also know that the Bible teaches the road to life is ‘narrow and cramped and few would be finding it,’ while the road to destruction would be ‘broad and spacious and many would be finding it.’ So it’s reasonable to believe that most people are not on that road to life, and it’s probably unreasonable to think that a religion is the right one simply because so many people are members.” So, while we craft an answer that we hope will result in less controversy, the truth is—yes, Jehovah’s Witnesses do in fact believe that (among those living today) only those in this organization will enter God’s Kingdom.
If people pressed on this topic further, I would usually paraphrase what I’d heard a District Overseer, Brother Beagler, say. “Are you asking me if I believe I have the truth? Well, yes I DO believe I have the truth. Don’t you believe YOU have the truth?” I would then go on to show them the verses at Matthew 24:43-47. I would then say, “So that’s a question each one of us has to answer for him or herself. Who really is that faithful and discreet slave? I’ve answered that for myself. I believe the faithful and discreet slave is in association with the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses.” I would then often take them to Ephesians 1:10, which speaks of “an administration at the full limit of the times, namely, to gather all things together again in the Christ…” I’d usually ask if they’d let me show them why I felt this was referring to the Watchtower Society.

As someone who flies about 46 weeks per year, this truly is hilarious. US Air is charging for a cup of soda now. The other day I just asked for water, and the tightly wound flight attendant said, "Two dollars please."
"You're charging me for water?" I asked.
"It's a nice big bottle of water, Sir."
"Yes, but I don't want bottled water. Just a cup of ice water please."
Flustered, she replied, "Well I'll just have to get you some tap water then; that's all I can do."
"That's fine; that's all I want, ma'am."
Sheesh... But I get it. These airlines are facing shutdown. They've got to do something. I assume the recent plummeting gas prices may reduce some of these extra fees.

I've got to agree with Robert7 (and Edmond) on this. There are all sorts of changed positions and mistakes the WTS can explain away by invoking the "light gets brighter" principle. But the one thing that undermines the entire foundation of their claims of diving backing? That Jerusalem was NOT destroyed in 607, and that--even IF their explanation of the seven Gentile times was correct--it did NOT end when they claim it did in 1914. This topples the whole ridiculous house of cards. It DESTROYS their claims that Jesus sat down on His throne then, and after inspecting his "goods" chose the WTS as His F&DS. Think of all the elaborate explanations, such as that of Rutherford and the Society directors being throne into prison on "trumped-up" charges--in supposed fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
They seem to have no problem admitting to many, many mistakes...but not on this one! They hold onto the whole 607/1914 thing for dear life!

I too read this during the first couple of weeks of my awakening in September of 2004. The effect it had on me then was profound, and I feel the same thing as I read it now. It speaks not about the whats and whys. It speaks about the power of archetypes. The archetype the Watchtower adherents have assumed makes it very difficult for many to reject. For people who don't dig deep--into the facts as well as their own hearts--how can any amount of logic or reason compete with an organization represented by she who is 'soft spoken, gentle, and who carries a Bible tucked neatly under her arm'? And, oh, the power wielded and the pain inflicted by such ones.
It takes me back to that Michigan autumn when I was cut off from my entire family and community of friends, when I knew something was wrong but couldn't quite put my finger on it. When I would sit in my apartment with only my cat, Kimba, listening to Diana Krall, sipping Jose Cuervo and conducting my research. When I was struck by the paralyzing realization that all was not as it seemed.
