  why do people think jesus died on a cross?

  i have always wonderd why so many people think jesus died on a cross.

  ive been brought up to beleive that he died on a stake.

  where did it come from about the cross?

  I have never seen the WT dispute that Spartacus died on a cross, or dispute that crucifiction was a common torture of the time, just that Jesus died on one. It would be quite easy to denounce the idolasation of the cross without pretending that it was not used

  incidentally Song 205 always makes me cringe when it says

  "He died upon a tree" presumably to rhyme with "To set all manknf free"

  Bad Day

  i'm posting here because i can't find any other forum to post to about this....plus you all know me and you are a great group of people.. i'm having a really bad day today.

  all of a sudden it seems to have "hit" me that i had cancer.

  i've been all clear for about 3 months, but all the while i've been terrified of it returning.

  I'm late finding this thread, as I often am, but If you do return to it I just wanted to add my warm encouragement and ((((((((( hug))))))).

  Your story is humbling to me ,who enjoys good health . I was feeling a bit sorry for myself because i have a cold!

  Anyway, for what it may be worth, my sister in law - who survived breast cancer some years ago and is still here to tell the tale - was helped by the Bristol Cancer Help Centre. Not so much in treatment but in her mental attitude to deal with it . I see they are now on line at www.bristolcancerhelp.org/

  JW article in major Canadian newspaper today...

  i almost didn't have time to read the morning's paper, but a banner at the top of the front page entitled "cheerleading for jehovah" got my attention.

  interesting comments in the toronto star can be read here.

  the article has obvious input from the society and seems to be a pr type move in light of recent bad canadian press (calgary blood case) and likely future canadian programs exposing jws and child abuse.. interesting comments:.

  This is where business comes in to it . Of course, you can worship in any dress you like, but they believe that to be acceptable and appealing to people, one should look smart.

  E.G If you want to work in a Bank , you dress like a banker, and accept the rules of the Company.

  The trouble is that the suit and briefcase has become such a stereotype that they now stick out like a sore thumb

  it has been many years since i was dsfsd, i have written this to my sister in hopes that she could understand some of the reasons that the relationship between my daughter and myself have been strained for so many years.

  i thought that by posting this it might help someone else that might be going through some of the same things.. here is my story.hello, as i stated in my other e-mail i will dedicate this entirely to trying to explain my situation with my daughter.

  i hope you don`t mind if it gets lengthy.as you probably already know i chose to be a jehovahs witness, and was one for more than 16 years.

  Tonight's Internet Meeting Part

  i just had to go to meeting tonight to hear the material on the internet.

  it was the usual stuff about pornography, many scriptures and three mentions of how jehovah was giving this material to the slave to give to us at this time, so there must be a reason.

  of course, satan got three mentions too as one who is trying to ensnare us into abusing the net.. and of course, nothing on the net can be trusted, per the fsd.

  Sister BluesBrother came back from last nights meeting a little miffed, after all the material they discussed was, I am told , two years old and she did not have a magazine to follow .

  She did comment when the question of unexpected porn was raised. She said that her Hotmail a/c was set to filter unwanted spam ,and it is easy to arrange. The Bozo on the platform looked blank and said that he thought spam was a kind of meat!. Either deliberately obtuse or totally ignorant .

  Every one laughed and she wished she had not bothered to give him an answer

  The big hoot came when dear old sister M , bent double with osteoporosis, and hands knarled with arthritus but blessed with an active mind, said solemnly that she had once read an article about the net - carefully considered it and decided that it was not for her .

  So there you go the ignorent leading the unknowing, repeating standard phrases and nodding as if they knew all about it. What hope for people like that?

  U . S. may not be aware that our esteemed footballer, ex captain of England , fierce competitor and credit to the game, is a reformed alcaholic who spent some time in jail in his youth.

  He always in recent years has come across as a decent individual even if he does things without thinking though properley.

  For Gods sake save him from the Dubs. Any Arsenal fans please let him know the truth about the truth

  JW Charities

  Perhaps they mean that all congs (at least in UK ) ARE charities set up with the Charity Commission . One of the last things I did as secretary was to sort out the papers and obtain official recognition of our charitable status.

  The official purpose of the charity was something like "For the dissemination of Bible truth and education"

  Believe me, the only charitable giving they recommend is to themselves and the Worldwide Work Fund ... In fact there is a deep distrust of "Worldly charitys " and most dubs that I know recount stories that most of the money given to worldly causes is creamed off in admin costs. Seems a good excuse not to donate!

  If you enjoy posting here, you would not enjoy the trip!

  We went to Eastern Europe once. I did enjoy it at the time but my priorities have changed a bit since then. The pace was a killer, in fact we spent one day in the hotel because my wife had just had enough and needed to rest. It was great meeting all the people from all over, but sitting through a lot of talks in foreign language is hard to take at the best of times.

  Save up and go to an Apostofest instead!
