Brown did talk about extenuating circumstances, but I have never seen that in print and Lady Lee's experience proves that showing mercy is not a consistent policy.

Hypocritical funeral of a JW fireman, geesh
by Aaac ina typical jw funeral: helmet placed on the coffin, bagpipe played, honour made etc.
how outragingly are these people abusing their dead members!
they are trying to get some sympathy of the tragedy of 11th sept.!

Oh my dog. I know that the transfer from the Catholic Church to the Kingdom Hall will be handled my funeral home personnel, but somehow the image got in my mind of a hand-off wherein a Priest and an Elder exchange pleasantries:
Priest: "So, you're still covering it up and you've made your people think you're progressive about handling it? How cool is that! The bishops could learn a thing or two from you folks."
Elder: "Yeah, there's less heat on us, but we don't get to have 'em wear those pretty alter boy outfits."

drugs wordwide epedemi
by happy man in.
ii think this board is a perfekt place to speak about this very bigg problem.. i grow upp in a jw family in 1960 when flower power was a bigg thing, many of these who try canabis, marijuana, ended upp dead, and for mee it was not even in my wildest fantsy to tke this things.. today this is a very bigg problem , even among jw i think, it is not easy to find your children use this stuff, and also defending it and try to tell that it is much more dangerus widh two ore three drinks on satterday evning.. i have two boys who almost worshipp this drugg canabis , and say it open your mind, helping you to see things as they realy are.. perhaps some here have expiriens how you as a parent must akt, i have never hitt my children, i heve never force them to bee a jw, ofcourse this is a very bigg problem , for mee, and i think fore many who have been involvd.
inn sweden it is a crime to use this or to sell it, i now in some other countrys it is not forbidden, so if some one want to give some addvice, thank you.

An interesting piece of wisdom, forms of this story have appeared in many places. I have heard it at several circuit assemblies, but of course for the witnesses, it is usually addressed to the person who they think sees badness wherever they go (the observing child is not even in the story, it is usually elders at city gates speaking with potential newcomers). The person may in fact be merely paranoid or unpleasant, in which case this story is an appropriate form of counsel. But they may also be bipolar and need more help than a short parable. Or they may see that real evil is going on - child sexual abuse, physical abuse of children or spouses, favoritism by elders, etc. - and should be listened to rather than dismissed as cranks. But for a young child growing up in a healthy environment, the truism "Wherever you go, there you are" (as Gertrude Stein put it) is a good lesson.

Tonight's Internet Meeting Part
by Pistoff ini just had to go to meeting tonight to hear the material on the internet.
it was the usual stuff about pornography, many scriptures and three mentions of how jehovah was giving this material to the slave to give to us at this time, so there must be a reason.
of course, satan got three mentions too as one who is trying to ensnare us into abusing the net.. and of course, nothing on the net can be trusted, per the fsd.

So if all experiences must be published - on paper, not on the net - can they still revamp stories from other fundies / evangelicals so that they seem to come from the Witnesses? What about the experiences you have yourself? Or that someone had who someone you know knows someone to whom they told it? Are they still acceptable?
An old friend had some serious heart bypass work done in a foreign country. He prepared for months and months with EPO and diet, did the surgery without "blood," then took months to recouperate. The Bethel recounting of the experience had him having emergency surgery and being in field service days later. Glad they avoid the inaccuracies of the Internet!

"Work that will be completed in our 20th c...
by 67mustang ini read an article about a 1989 watchtower that stated the preaching work would be completed in our 20th century, but was revised in the bound volume to say "in our day".
i told my brother this and he said, "if it's on the net about jw's it's a lie".
i want to prove to him it was a fact.

I remember that article being studied, and I remember walking around in a daze as everyone seemed to be talking about it, but it was clear to me that there had been no supporting argument to cut things off at the end of 2000. Then, as I remember, a few weeks later a letter was read saying that the bound volume would rephrase things and that 'in our 20th century' was a typo. For years I thought my vindicated doubt was a sign of superior faith - but in fact it was a precursor to my enlightenment. If by saying that Paul was starting a work that would be completed in the 20th century the Watchtower meant that we would not be submitting time slips or attending meetings after December 2000, then I have been faithful to the word.

Are the disassociated NOT to be shunned now?
by comment inrado vleugel pointed out on another thread that the current response to "do you shun former members?
" on the jw-media.org site represents a more hardline viewpoint as far as treatment of disfellowshipped family members.
once it said, "disfellowshipping does not sever family ties.
-
Bodhisattva
The context clearly indicates that only those who are disfellowshipped are shunned. As such it is probably a lie in the form of theocratic warfare, however it intrigues me given a situation in my family. The downside is that it could open up the disassociated to being disfellowshipped for not following the Watchtower's puritanical rules. Of course the rules cited would be unobjectionable to most people, who would agree that "drunkenness, adultery, and stealing" are 'bad.' Note that they do not say 'alcoholism,' which the general public recognizes as a disease, but 'drunkenness,' something that all 'good' people, including recovering alcoholics, should avoid. Was Clinton raised a witness, because I suspect that there are lawyers who also have English degrees and can't parse so deceptively.

Is there a word for setting someone up to be convicted for a crime committed while in court on a trumped up charge? Not contempt of court, mind you, but saying "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses?" If not, I suggest "Caiaphasing" as the term.
Of course, in Caesar's courts you cannot be tried for something done as part of a trial in the same trial.

Good call on the chair possibly being a lawyer. I still wonder whether it is the same pedophile who Bill has declined to name, but whose being given a position of authority helped Bill to see the corruption in the system. If so, it would present a challenge: Such a person is not worthy of respect, least of all to sit in judgement; but it would be difficult to avoid a charge of legal slander by identifying him as such later, if he has not been convicted.
Interesting strategy here:

Good luck, Bill.
