I always found the 144,000 thing funny. Basically you think you're one. Then you tell everyone that you ARE one. And then everyone respects you, especially respecting you words and commands. Its a religion with spiritual relatives concerning salvation and no absolutes.

Never eat anything that the animal used previously to eliminate waste, digest it's food, reproduce, or used for high neurological or immune function.
What about sausages, they were wrapped in the intestines... sometimes still are.
OH and whats great for breakfast: Bangers and mash. But I don't like bangers made with sole, only with pork or beef.

The Young Witness Exodus Continues

So now my ex-husband can say his old family is dead to him.
How sad. He must be a really evil person to not even care anymore about his family.
I don't really know for sure how many "young witnesses" are left. I started fading at around 14, while occasionally going to memorials or an assembly (the assembly because that meant going on a vacation). At age 17, I was fully liberated from this destructive cult when I received the Sacrament of Baptism "In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit," not in the name of the Jehovah, the GB, and the Watchtower. It was a real intellectual journey.

U.S. Missile Defense System Flunks Test "AGAIN"
by JH inhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-4799423,00.html
i don't have much trust in that missile defense system.
i doubt that it could even intercept one missile coming at us.. do you feel safer with this defense system?.

Perhaps you Yanks should reconsider Regan's Star Wars (with lazers) . The leaders of your military seem to be idiots with unlimited resources.
The leaders of our military are generally smart, but they don't have anything (except for 50 year old Sea King helicopters STILL used in combat situations). I think America should give Canada some military foreign aid, like they did for Iraq, the Mujahadeen, and most South American despots.

Is Valentine's Day Overrated?
by Swan inmy husband says it isn't a real holiday.
he says when he was young it was about trading valentines (cards); not about gifts.
halloween is a major holiday, but not a day off.

Easter is not a kids holiday. Bunnies have only been introduced recently by corporations to add a secular product to the holiday.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ after his Passion on Good Friday. I think its funny how the JWs point out how the name Easter has pagan connotations. Yes it does, but in other languages they don't use the word Easter. In the Orthodox Church it is called the Great Pasch and in the Roman tradition it is called Resurrection Sunday

Did you believe that the "Pope" was infalliable when you were Catholic?
by booker-t inmy roman catholic aunt has been a "devout" catholic for over 30 years and when the pope recently became ill she told me that god would not allow the pope to die but would take him directly to heaven because the pope is sinless.
i am not familar with catholic doctrines so i was caught off guard with my aunt but for any posters out there that were devout catholics like my aunt do catholics really believe that the pope is without sin and cannot die?

Usually blood pressure and cholesterol can be taken care of with a change in diet and exercise (exercise only raises HDL cholesterol, but it doesn't lower LDL). Try diet and exercise, with the doctor's recommendations of course, before anyone puts you on drugs.
Good luck,

OK the English have pretty good food (there seems to be a niche in Victoria, BC for British food, so I've had some in my time, especially Shepherd's Pie ).
But we all know that Guinness is the BEST. Or if you prefer microbreweries, Granville Island Pale Ale.

An Explanation of my final comments on the show
by jschwehm ini apologize for anything i said that may have offended anyone.
my intent was to be as charitable toward my jehovah's witness brothers and sisters as possible but also to be truthful about the differences between the jws and the historic christian faith which are many.
i hope that i succeeded in this.

I think you did a great job and there's no need to apologise for you comments... some people just want to make a "mountain out of a molehill."
