  often when i speak with people about religion, they are christians.

  i will get into discussions and mention items of truth about their history and ask them what they think of it.

  more so then not, they have canned answers of "that is only part of the story" or "the person who said that was not a christian.

  Q. I am impressed that you have answered such a tough question for a LDS. Sorry to say that to me, the bit about the agenda sounds a bit like the response I keep getting from JWs. They want me to listen to them, including criticising my beliefs, because of course their motives (agenda) are proper. But when the tables are turned, the first thing they often do is question the 'opposer's' motives, instead of dealing with the facts and arguments. I note however that you have engaged in all sorts of debates in a very open way. I'd rather be a mormon than a JW.

  Good question.

  I can answer honestly that I welcome anyone who has information that can challenge my faith to the core. I am ready and willing to turn my beliefs upside down a hundred times over, or destroy them completely, if that is what it takes to move me one inch closer to truth or reality.

  That said, I have neither the time nor the energy to debate with all comers everything they can throw my way.

  That is my two-penneth from my own Christian perspective.

  Did Jesus fulfil Micah 5:2? What does the context indicate?

  christians believe that jesus fulfilled the prophecy at micah 5:2 which predicts the coming of a ruler from bethlehem.

  however, does the context support that belief?

  the verses following verse 2 foretell what this ruler would accomplish.

Not sure I understand your point, unless you believe Christians limit Christ's accomplishments to those that occurred already, ie during his 30 or so years on earth?

  Does your JW baptism still mean anything to you?

  all i know is that jesus said to get baptized.

  he didn't say in what religion though.. although i don't go to meetings anymore and don't plan on going anymore, i'm still glad that i was baptized.

  Jehovahs Witnesses, not all that long ago, used to teach that baptism was a non-denominational affair and that people could not be baptised into any religion nor any organisation. They explained accurately how that conclusion came from the Scriptures themselves.

  Sadly, they began to denounce scriptural baptism in 1985, and removed the Holy Spirit from the wording, replacing it with the human organisation. In my opinion, if I discern scriptures correctly, that was the unforgivable sin. Oh dear..and they begun their race so well...

  isnt it amazing how life can totally turn around and you end up in a place you swore you would never be in?

  5 years ago, i was "happily" brainwashed, unaware of the deceptions.

  i always thought that the jw's were right and everything against them was lies from satan.

  and atheism doesn't have to be a permenent place for anyone. if anything, weak atheism is a good place to stop, take a deep breath, a rest, and look at the universe again with sober eyes, after years of doing this opium that marx spoke of.

  I like this post by Tetrapod so much I am re-posting it - above. This describes what happened to me, although that's not how I saw it at the time.

  I would say that wherever we are, and whatever we believe, we should never allow it to be a permanent place. No one has all the answers nor ever will, but knowing that is a good place to be.

  if you could be a fly on the wall at any event in history, which three events would you choose?

  it could be anything, eg birth of jesus, seeing the beatles live, listening to a c.t.russell speech, battle of the little big horn, etc.

  you don't even have to be a fly; you could participate if you liked .

  1. Inspired by Tetra's suggestions, I would like to have been a fly on the wall the moment when homosapien evolved. You know - many tens of thousands of years ago, a process that hebrew scripture authors chose to symbolically represent as the story of Adam and Eve, never thinking for one moment that evenually some folks would actually seriously believe these were two real people created out of nothing, as if by magic...

  2. I would like to have been a fly on the wall when one of the authors of one of the NT scriptures penned the original. I would then have the final bit of proof that the originals, just like 100% of all ancient manuscript copies in existence, contained Kyrios (Lord) throughout, and never even once the tetragrammaton.

  3. Finally, to witness the transfiguration of Christ in Jerusalem (yes I'm 98% a believer) - ie when that body 'of dust' suffered physical death was transfigured finally and completely into its spiritual substratum. To witness that prototype of the destiny of the whole cosmos, transfigured from decay and darkness into glory and everlasting light. Then I could be 100% a believer and no longer a doubting Thomas.

  i was thinking of an approximate reversal of force's thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/14/105552/1.ashx):.

  if something happened which proved beyond any doubt that god (or gods) cannot exist, silencing forever all claims for realistic belief in an objective divinity, shattering even the uncertainty of agnosticism, would you start being interested in theology?.

  i don't mean to discuss the probability of the assumption: it is very unlikely.

  Yes. Very much so. Much the same as I became interested in JWism, to the extent that my wife occasionally tells me it is an obsession, only after I found out they were mistaken about 99% of their beliefs. When I thought they were just another form of Christianity, I couldn't conjure up the slightest interest. Now I like to know what makes them tick...why they believe in things that any level of serious investigation would easily disprove, if only they were allowed to look...

  "Witlesses", "JDumbs", other labels.. How do you feel about them?

  i've commented before that the watchtower goes out of its way to label groups of people it doesn't want you to like -- "worldly people", "apostates", "christendom".

  there are scores of these labels.. people in general use them too: "spick", "n*gger", "trailer trash".

  once we allow ourselves to refer to people by a label, we automatically change them from an individual to a member of a group.

  Of course, if you go all 'noble' and 'lets be better than them'

  Hey, no one would have to go all noble to be better than what the JWs stand for. Everyone on this board is 'better than them' without even trying. There is name calling on this board - but the difference is that it is backed up by sound proof, logic and argument.

  We don't just say don't believe them because they are nasty JWs...on the contrary we examine their arguments and weigh up the evidence....

  i was never one to judge people.

  most of the time i felt so sorry for ones.

  however, looking back now, i remember times, especially in school where someone might have been really mean to me and i would think in my head "well, atleast i'm not goin to die!

  Should Jehovers Witnesses use Heinz 57 products?

  the other night i was listening to npr on the radio while driving home and i heard a very interesting piece of information... the "57" in the heinz 57 brand came from occult sources!

  the container says "heinz 57 varieties" but the number was never meant to literally mean they had 57 varieties of products, instead the numbers 5 and 7 have occult meaning.. i looked around on the internet and found these articles:.

  So Witnesses should abstain from Heinz.

  By the same token, they should abstain from the Watchtower Society itself, because it too had its origins in occultism, spiritism and egyptology etc.

  Can someone help me with the Bible quote - something like "the truth can never begin with a lie"

  Such a lie would be that the Great Pyramid was designed by God as his stone Witness revealing Christ's parousia....just for starters.
