  Who asked why no pics of Jesus. Because he is redundant - they have a substitute for him:

  Since Jesus’ return to the heavens his followers have been substituting for him, as Paul tells us: “We are therefore ambassadors substituting for Christ, as though God were making entreaty through us. As substitutes for Christ we beg: ‘Become reconciled to God.’

  At this years memorian, the text of the day was not even about Christ, it was about the so-called faithful and discreet slave. Disgusting!

  i've been sitting here reading the posts and just watched the shuttle return to flight!

  as usual an amazing sight!

  I don't believe it happened - its all done with smoke and mirrors. I prefer to believe this old JW book about the truth:

  The Truth Shall Make You Free (1943) pp.284-285, ch.XXii "THE TIME OF THE END"

  ….. Our planet earth is surrounded by an invisible air mass, which is the "firmament" or expanse of atmosphere extending up about one hundred miles higher than man. In like manner the symbolic "earth" has invisible spirit powers in control of it, namely, the demons under Satan the Devil. This organization of wicked spirits with Satan as their prince is both higher than man and unseen to him. Hence that demon organization constitutes the "heavens" with relation to man's present earthly organization. Man on earth can no more get rid of these demonic "heavens" than man can by airplane or rockets or other means get up above the air envelope which is about our earthly globe and in which man breathes. God alone can and will deliver humankind from such demon powers of control.

  Very interesting post. What I struggle to understand is why people, my close friends included choose to take a chance on one of the few religions that we can so thoroughly prove to be false - if only they would carry out the proper tests (ironically, as urged in the Bible). I wish you both well.

  i must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.

  first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.

  i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.

  What do YOU perceive the gospel to be?

  i read greendawns' thread on 'would accepting the gospel make the world a better place'.

  and from there some debated on the belief / existance / non belief / non existance of god?

  so my question to you is simply - what is the gospel to you?

  Gospel is about Christ, as the Messiah who died and was resurrected and transfigured. To allow salvation to all humankind, as a free gift, especially to those who believe.

  End of the World Near?

  i am wondering how many people out there still believe that in the next 100 years or so that this world/earth is going to be destroyed?.

  my husband is a christian, and sometimes he is obsessed with world events in the middle east and he thinks one day soon all the christians are going to be raptured away to heaven while the antichrist rules here on earth.

  i am extremely uncomfortable when he talks about it because it reminds me of the jws.. any thoughts out there?

  I'm a Christian, ex-catholic then seventh day adventist. But now I have learned in my old age how to better understand scriptures, I am quite sure there is no reason to believe the end is near. That is not what the Bible teaches. The only sign (singular) will be cosmic, unmistakeable, and too late to do anything about. Perhaps an extinction event, like a meteor strike? Who knows, but I don't see why a Christian should be more likely to think the end is near compared to anyone else, including athiests. Christianity seems to have lost its way somewhat.

  some of you know i have a daughter and son-in-law that is involved with the j.w.

  cult.. this is because of the influence brought about from my daughters aunt, who is a full blown (brainwashed) j.w.

  cult member, and her family, too.. my daughter always loved her aunt, even though she was in the cult, which is fine with us.

  If she's not interested, my advice is educate her. I have discussed these things with my kids (15 and 11) and I truly think they are immune. I wish you well.

  how many people here know someone who died or was seriously injured in a car accident?.

  how many people here know someone who died or was in any way injured by a terrorist attack?.

  When I was in Egypt (south Sinai) last week I heard about the London bombs and worried about friends in England. The worst bomb was on the same line I had recently used in London. I felt quite safe in my holiday hotel.

  Shortly after I returned home a bomb killed dozens of holidaymakers in a hotel like mine, close to where I was staying. I also know that many people were killed last October in the tiny resort I stayed at (it consists of 3 hotels). Who knows how to stay safe. My on inclination is to avoid obvious risks, but there is no point in fearing terrorism more than any other way of being killed.

  Would acceptance of the gospel change the world?

  what do you think would happen if the world or at least a large powerful nation accepted and practised the gospel as it is without watering it down?

  I believe Greendawn may have been referring to the gospelmessage as it was actually intended, not most people's interpretation of scriptures. Even the New Testament is largely misunderstood, including by its authors, who repeatedly misunderstood Christ when he was alive and subsequently. If the gospel & NT was properly understood in its deeper non literal sense, and Christ's commands followed - these boil down to treating others in the way we would wish to be treated, then that would indeed be progress.

  The problem is, fundamentalists believe the Bible teaches many things that it does not, eg they miss the point on the likes of women being submissive to men, and on homosexuality etc etc.

  and how people would swear that things moved by themselves and hovered around?

  well, i wish my stuff was possessed so it would move itself to my new apartment for me.

  Unlike me, my friend was always very superstitious (as an athiest). Having been brought up a Christian, even though had drifted into agnosticism, I feared nothing. Neither ghosts, demons, bad luck or whatever. I sometimes amused myself by walking under a ladder to see the shock on my friends face.

  Anyway, my friend is now a JW, and I have returned to Christianity, on my own. Neither of us have really changed. His fears and superstitions are as strong as ever but with a slightly different focus, wheras I am still as non superstitious as ever.

  He told me a story of a glass jumping off a table at a recent wedding (demons) and his daughter played a trick on him and his wife by creeping into the house and making noises upstairs. They were terrified of the demons. I could not believe it. How could professed Christians have such fears?
