Anything worthwhile and trustworthy should stand up to the highest level of scrutiny. Cults, like Jehovah's Witnesses, succeed in part by alienating people from themselves - from the value of their thoughts and feelings.
here we have iirc more than four separate threads on 607, and of course a remonstration to not be unkind to the apologists.. why?
607 is of course complete nonsense - not even regular witnesses can remember the "logic" behind it and why it is even mentioned from time to time in their stupid "deep spiritual literature".

607 is powerful to a certain subset of JW's leaving because it proves they have been purpusefully deceived about past bible chronology. That is true regardless of how you look at the dates.
I see no reason to believe that any such prophecy is contained in the bible - even assuming theism is true.

It is a phobia cultivated by propaganda. All cults have such phobias - they are a means of control, a buzz word / catch all to explain problems, and a means of reinforcing doctrine.

You will loose unless you narrow him down or take an affirmative position (that something is the case rather than is not the case). I would narrow him at the very first point about there being a right interpretation of the bible.
This is not the case and he has no basis in that assumption. Even the best theist debators would not start here, but rather end here.
My argument would be: There are good reasons to believe the Old Testament God is just a literary character. (Or perhaps) The bible is a wicked and superstitious pile of non-sense.
I probably wouldn't waste your time, but enjoy if you insist. Just remember he believes because he is experiencing an emotional thing, not because of reason.
so we had our circuit assembly this past weekend, and it was the first one in my life that i told my wife i would not be attending.
we had a brief conversation on why, and she said well just go to this last one with me, and then when we can discuss what we learn and compare it to why you've been expressing your "new" feelings towards the wts.. i love my wife, and as much as i thought i was gonna hate it i decided to go.
now that i no longer want to be a jehovah's witness it really didnt bother me that nobody hardly talked to me despite me living in this same area for 4 1/2 years, everybody views me as spiritually weak because i dont go out in service, rarely attend meetings, dont comment, lesson is never underlined, so the "friends" never interact with me anyway and i'm use to it, actually that's the way i prefer it.
Great deal of "alienating people from their thoughts and emotions" this time around. First you alienate them from their friends, then from themselves.
If you want to keep your wife, actively work on not allowing her to alienate herself from you and actively encourage her to rely on her own opinions and feelings. You can even use marital conflict to strengthen this. If she is not being submissive or kind, you can point out
Even though you are not obeying your leaders by (being snotty, independant) I'd rather get your real feelings.
If she is being "fake nice" you can thank her for it but ask her to tell you how she really feels.

The bible doesn't tell the reader to count at all. In fact, it tells readers not to count, not to hinge on dates and that the "end" is unkown. It also doesn't claim that Christ would return invisibly or that there is a FDSclass. But I go on.

it has come to my attention that a much-beloved poster on this forum has been hurt by the insensitivity shown toward her account of how badly she was treated by the wt.. i realize this is a place where are all welcome, and barring any posting guidelines violations, we are free to air our views without fear of any backlash.. however, please keep in mind that most posters here - yours truly being one of them - view the wt in a negative light.
with all the evidence out there pertaining to its deceitfulness, how can anyone view it otherwise?.

I guess I am surrounded by those with more tolerance than me. I wish that at least one relative or friend of mine would have told me how crazy and full of rubbish my theology was.
Instead, all my relatives tried to be nice, not rock the boat, be respectful and tolerant. Very good people, in retrospect. I needed an uncle to tell me "Jeezus kid, snap out of it! You need to lighten up, play some ball and get a girlfriend!"
After I left and reconnected with my family, they all said how happy they were and how much they wanted to help. I was like "Why didn't you TELL me how nutty my family was!"

I've never seen a good argument presented that coddling one who holds an uncommon opinion with kid-glove criticism has any benefit. Legitimate, yet direct criticism is just fine - while irrational attacks proabably have a negative impact on discussion.
