New $100 laptop could jump start education in developing world
by seattleniceguy inthe idea: create a crank-powered laptop that children can use to learn and communicate even in remote areas, and give one laptop to every child.. a one-minute cranking session powers the laptop for 10 minutes.
the laptops are outfitted with a wi-fi radio transmitted that allows multiple machines to become a communications mesh that can share internet connections of any member who happens to have one.
at $100, and with assistance from donors, real diffusion into poor and developing nations is made possible.

Elsewhere; you've probably had electricity all your life. You've also owned books. The kids who get these gadgets will be far worse off than the ones our little gig is for, and those kids had never seen a pocket calculator before. Cranking a handle to keep it working will be a very small price to pay.

by Mary ini have a wt-cd rom, but it's an older one from 1997. if anyone wants it, lemme know and i'm mail it to you.
it's free, but if you'd care to make a small contribution, i'll make sure it goes on a bottle of good wine towards the world wide witnessing work.........

Keep it for research reasons... the CD I have doesn't have the really old books or volumes (I think WBTS have worked out that they're just gag fodder).

What Would It Take
by NestleBoy ina few months back i remembered a newbie asked in this forum what would it take for a current witness to "go over the edge".
in other words what would it take, personally as a witness, to stop going to meetings or to just quit being a jw?
what would you have to learn or see?

There is some New Light to justify the non-anointed in the Governing Body, something about the Levites having attendants or something. That will have to be reviewed as all of the anointed die though. And they will, don't question that.
My question would be, if God was going to step in before things got too bad on earth, why not before 6 million Jews were executed sixty years ago? Ten million Cambodians twenty years ago? Twenty million Rwandans ten years ago? Before most of Africa got infected with HIV? Before a third of the planets' species were made extinct over the last century? Before the planets' temperature control system had the thermostat broken?
Are you going to keep accepting new versions of Truth? Will you still be doing that when you're rotting in a nursing home you can't afford because you were never going to need superannuation? Stop giving them room to make excuses for their lies. They've stolen this much of your life. Reclaim your future. Sorry sweetheart but you have to entertain the notion that it's not on a Paradise Earth with only JW's for company.

THIS JUST IN: CHRISTMAS has been CANCELLED this winter.
by Oroborus21 inflash--november 16, 2005, peoria, il.. instead of merry christmas, happy hannukah (or chanukah), kwanza, etc.all merchants are to use a generic term instead.
no use of santa, a nativity scene or any christian or other religious symbolage may be used in store displays, on advertising on upon product packaging.
use instead nondescript wintry animals, snowflakes and candycanes to signify the holiday season.. the committee on political correctness is expected to issue a final ruling by friday on whether "festivus" may be used.. -merchants for appropriate designations.

Didn't CocaCola invent the red-coated Santa a century ago?

ok i think i finally have made a decision
by Cordelia insoooooo any of you thats been following my threads thanks (and poor u) i have changed my mind so many times.
i have finally decided that i must stop trying to get reinstated, basically i got dfed 9 months ago had a boyfriend i felt i loved, was married tho still to my hubby who is only just starting to divorce me, (hes waited coz he keeps saying we could try again for the sake of our daughter but he would expect me to be completly in the 'truth') i hid the bf from my family coz they were so heartbroke and i decided to please them i would get reinstated and then fade, but as time went on i realised that wasnt an option as with a family like mine it would be so hard to do, plus there was the bf still hidden poor guy, anyway we spilt up several times, i was a complete physco i kept blaming him for everything,.
anyway last month i put my letter of reinstatement in and sat there scared stiff that they would reinstate me (as that would defo mean the end of the bf) they didnt reinstate me, and i blamed the bf and we spilt for good;.

Hello sunshine! I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you're at, you'd have been a mess after the breakup. I'm still concerned about how your choices affect the chances of you retaining custody of your daughter. I think that focussing on that should be your main priority. Fight for her first.

Mr Frass and I have started a project to supply solar-powered laptops to schools in Fiji, it's been an uphill struggle so far but it's going to happen. I like this guy, he's a dreamer who's getting it to work. I love this quote: "And Gates would like Negroponte to use Microsoft software rather than the free open-source alternatives that Negroponte currently favors. " ... of course he would; unfortunately it would triple the price of the machine for the additional memory required to run bulbous Microsoft applications and the cost of the software itself. Of course the problem will be that they will need an internet connection, usually in places they can barely find enough fuel to light a fire. Still it's a nice starting point.

details in comm. meeting?
by myvalk inanyone have any idea how much details of the wrongdoing the elders will be asking in a comm.

THANK YOU blindersoff, I've always wanted to read that part of the secret manual! My brother (the baby elder) mentioned to me that they would have to find answers to a dozen or so questions, and those must be them.
Okay, one of the most traumatic parts of the meeting is details about your 'sin'. If you're a 'sinner', don't give them any. Just tell them that 'pornea' happened x amount of times.

You don't have to discuss anything with them! Tell them that you're not ready to talk about it at this time. And never be ready to talk about it...
