  i’m still an elder and i consider myself jw light.

  as my fellow elders are.

  we don’t throw our weight around like elders used to in the past, it’s all very easy going these days.

  Elderberry, you make it all sound so non-chalant, no big deal. YOU and all the other elders still have enormous control over the diehard jw's and you full well know it. I know how much control the elders have over my jw and it disgusts me what this damn cult have done to a good man. Shame on you. Stand up for what is right even if YOU lose all your family and friends. Then you can come back and tell us how meaningless this cult really is.

  "They do shadow birthday celebrations..."- Why don't you have the balls to come out and fully celebrate? oh, you don't want to lose your entire family, possible income, home and entire being?

You don't get to say, "I was just following orders" because you have a choice.

  Even 20 years ago or so jw's were reluctant and would actually refuse to admit they were jw. My house was a do not knock and I had to ask 3 times (finally yelling) "are you jehovah witnesses?" even then they clearly did not want to answer. Now I think my house has a big "satan lives there" on my address.

  Thank you for your answer. It seems to me my jw must be in some old fashioned cong then! Though I can't really say as we no longer discuss jw things. He still wears a suit & tie and seems as zealous as always. Then again I don't really know where he is going on Sat mornings. Ha, so never mind, I know nothing.

  Liam, you should check out old posts here and what people have had to endure being a jw and especially by the elders.

  There are so many stories of elders acting outrageous. Putting their foot in a door of a jw woman who is home alone and barging in, elders staking out a persons house because they are spying to catch them supposedly having an affair (even if they weren't), elder claiming he was 'helping' a single mother put her kid to bed while she was busy elsewhere he was 'busy' in the bedroom with the child and the stories go on and on.

  Then there are the judicial meetings where they ask the most inappropriate questions I have ever heard of even of minors who had to face down 3 elders without a parent or adult with them. Imagine you had a girlfriend and you went a bit too far with her, now you have to go give a play by play to 3 men. By play by play I mean every detail and no need to leave anything out. Basically verbal porn.

  Does it ever bother you to be associated with such a group?

  Do they do 'disfellowshipping' or now it is called 'removal' of members in your kh?

  (carla, not ever a jw, a ubm (unbelieving mate, spouse joined up later in marriage) hope you don't find my questions offensive)

  JW's home schooling over-representing

  speaking to an old elder friend recently about his decision to home school his high school aged kids.. he claims that here in australia, about 30% of the students that log into online classrooms are jw's.

  the others are disabled kids - who cant physically attend class and the rest are long distance students.. another generation of under-educated jw kids on the way..

  I know people in the US who are not jw's and take their homeschooling very serious. They opted out of the classrooms when things like drag queens were being welcomed for reading hour with 5-7 year olds, when gender books were supposed to be normal and so forth. Some parents just don't agree with some of that and that is their choice.

  That being said there is testing for these kids but that is state by state. Some states are more rigorous than others. In years past I would agree that many home school kids were just plain weird. sorry to say so but that is my opinion. Now there are so many options and programs for home school kids that is not necessarily the case. All depends on the parent I guess.
