There was an advert on Sky Television the other day (National Geographic Channel) about child pornography. It said it is getting worse. It said there are 100,000 child porn websites. Now this is what really infuriates me. Why the hell isn't something being done to shut all these websites down? Why aren't the governments, the UN, whatever, getting together, tracing these sites to the host servers, and telling the owners of the servers that they will be shut down unless they remove the sites immediately, no questions asked!? If child pornography was sold at your local 7-eleven or even adult shop, there would be a public outrage, if it was shown on television, there would be a public outrage, if it was shown at your local cinema, there would be a public outrage, but the world wide web is littered with thousands of these sick websites that are fueling paedophilia like wildfire, and evidently the authorities just shrug their shoulders and say "nothing we can do to stop it on the web". Well I don't buy it! It is rotten, really rotten. There is something very sinister going on in the background about this I feel.

The Iraq Study Group...what's going to happen in Iraq?
by My MILs worst nightmare, a nonJW ini think that what will happen eventually, is that the us will strike a temporary deal with syria and iran.
we will then move 50-75,000 troops in iran up north to protect the oil fields since its in our best interests, and we will charge them in oil for doing so.
then we will leave the rest of the country to themselves.

Eventually they will just totally withdraw all the troops at once, cold turkey, just like Vietnam. It is the only way. A slow, drawn-out withdrawal just won't work.

Double WOW. I can see something potentially very disturbing looming on the horizon with this. Prima facie it appears the Society may be humbling themselves and trying to put more emphasis on Jesus Christ, which would be fantastic, but it seems more likely that the Convention is going to be one huge propaganda exercise designed to elevate the Society and Governing Body on an even greater level, right up there with Jesus himself, the likes of which we havn't seen before. I can easily see that this may turn out to be a message that we must submissively follow the Watchtower Society, GB, FDS. etc, to an even more obsequious degree, because that is the SAME as following Christ!!

"Evidence God's Kingdom is Near" - Dec 06 Awake

The Society's completely nonsensical and contradictory stance on when God's kingdom comes is really brought home in this Awake! The Dec 06 Awake ("Jesus - who was he") has as it's second article "The Life He Makes Possible" (referring to Jesus). In that article is the subheading "Evidence God's Kingdom is Near" which reads as follows: "How can we know when that Kingdom will come in answer to that prayer (the Lord's prayer)? Jesus' early followers were curious and asked: "What will be the sign of your presence [as ruling King] and of the conclusion of the system of things?" Jesus answered: "Nation will rise against nation...., and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress." Also, he warned: "Because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off." - Matthew 24:3-12." Notice that in that paragraph they use Matthew 24:3-12 in relation to when the Kingdom COMES. Notice that they also add the words [as ruling King] to Jesus words. The Society officially teaches that all these events form a 'composite sign' that indicate the kingdom CAME in 1914 and that it has been ruling since that date (though only God knows over what). Next para: "Another Bible prophecy says that "in the last days critical times hard to deal with......but proving false to its power." - 2 Timothy 3:1-5." Next para: "You may agree that this description of "the last days" fits exactly the times in which we live. Evidence is abundant that now is the time for the fulfillment of the following Bible prophecy: "The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdomitself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself wills tand to times indefinite." - Daniel 2:44 " Notice the ambigous wording: "...now is the time for the fulfillment of the following Bible prophecy:..". This could be taken to mean either 'now' as in presently the kingdom is ruling (the official belief taught by the WTS) or taken to mean that right now conditions are ripe on earth for the Kingdom to finally be set up and start to rule. But is God's kingdom yet to 'come' or has it already 'come', in 1914? (The Society, of course, teaches both.) The article makes no reference to 1914 at all and appears to have been written to give the reader the distinct impression that the coming of God's kingdom is entirely a future event. Taken purely at face value, this Awake article would be 'new light'. Final para: "The Kingdom rule exercised by the "Prince of Peace" will remove everything that that would interfere with the peace of those who survive this world's end. (Isaiah 9:6) Bible prophecy promises: "The world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever." (1 John 2:17) This world's end will make way for doers of God's will to enjoy what was lost for the human family when our original parents, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God." So God's purpose for mankind is to destroy 6 billion people because, somehow, they stand to 'interfere' with the peace of a few million active dubbies, who alone have the scriptural hope of surviving God's global day of massacre. So much for the 'life' Jesus alone makes possible - more like mass death.

The heavenly resurrection of 1918: "An interesting possibility"
by AnnOMaly inpossibility?
they must be joking!.
watchtower january 1, 2007, 'the first resurrection - now under way!

"That is an interesting possibility. Although this cannot be directly confirmed in the Bible..." WOW!!!! I think this is most interesting wording used by the Society. When was the last time the Society ever worded something like that....suggesting something is only an 'interesting possibility' and not 'directly confirmed in the Bible', especially in relation to something where they appear to have been quite dogmatic before! Does this perhaps indicate a softening in the Society's arrogance about certain speculative teachings? The Watchtower Society really needs to use this kind of wording more often, applying it to any of it's belief that is strongly arguable either way. It desperately needs to drop the cock-sure dogmatism? As any fool can see, the whole 1914 creed and every WT point of doctrine built around that date is at best only an 'an interesting possibility...but not directly confirmed in scripture'!! It is almost impossible to see them doing that, however, as Brooklyn's entire ecclesiastical authority rests on the 1914 teaching. They have hopelessly painted themselves into a corner.

What IS "Pure Worship"?
by Sunspot inwe often heard this term being constantly shoved down our throats at the meetings at the kingdom hall.....but as i become older, (and hopefully wiser) i cannot for the life of me see where learning how to place/sell wts literature each week, can be classified as pure worship!.
for example: i attended a little church up the road from here last sunday night.
they were having their first-ever "worship night" that a couple of teen-aged girls had the idea to hold and arranged the whole event.

JW's are indoctrinated to believe that only they are practicing 'pure' worship because all the other religions are contaminated with 'pagan' beliefs etc (trinity, immortal soul, etc). So I think they use the phrase mainly in the sense of their perceived doctrinal purity. As any fool knows, however, JW's also teach a number of false teachings, just like all other religions do. Whether a glass of pure water has 50% poison or 1% poison, it is still impure, and could be fatal.

I agree with you that often the JW's don't treat the social misfits in their congo very well. I've seen that a number of times over the years.

Yep fading is the way to go. It worked a treat for me. Just be prepared to suffer a massive drop in your social life (but remember that most JW's are only really in it for social reasons/pressures, whether they know it or not).
