Finding Jehovahs Witnesses Faith
by Marvin Shilmer infinding jehovahs witnesses faith.
i have a question for serious participants of this forum: .
what do you deem the most reliable means for determining the various convictions held by the population of jehovahs witnesses in terms of the range of what individuals within that group consider as core tenets of their faith?.
-

The most reliable means would be to conduct a survey, but of course the Society would never allow that and if you tried to organize one in the congregation or you circuit you would be booted out onto your ass lickity split.

What are your reasons for not joining another religion?
by MARTINLEYSHON ini am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.

I am still a Christian and believe in God (it's called faith folks - Heb 11:1 - something laughable to many people on here), however after the JW experience I can no longer tolerate being associated with any religious group which is teaching crap, because the cognitive dissonance is too much to take. And they are all teaching crap to various degrees. I'm content to just sit on the sidelines and wait until God sorts it out and makes it clear what he wants us to do because right now it's a total dogs breakfast.

great questions. You could do more re 1914 though, with questions like: Q How long does Jesus rule in heaven for A 1,000 years Q Oh, so that means the 1,000 year reign has already started? A Err, no, not yet. Q So who is the ruler of the world? A Satan is. Q Oh, but I thought the Kingdom started ruling in 1914. A Err, yes it did, but it has not yet extended its rulership to earth. Q So when is the separation of the 'sheep' and the 'goats' A In the future, during the great tribulation. Q So that is when the wheat get separated from the weeds? A Err, no, that has been ongoing since 1914.

YOU must pray, then, this way:
by ButtLight in"our father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.
10 let your kingdom come.
let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.

I've never heard it said in any of the 'modern' church group services I've attended either. In fact, it seems that most of those churches flout Jesus instruction to pray to the 'Father', choosing instead to pray directly to 'Jesus', something which is simply not found in scripture at all. Actually I've heard Pastors pray to the Father and then start talking to Jesus half way through, and some pray directly to Jesus and then refer to him as the Father. One of them starting of her prayer to the Father and half-way through thanked the Father that he came and gave up his life and shed his blood for us. Most of them are totally confused about what the heck they are praying to and worshipping, fudging and criss-crossing between God, the Father, the Lord, Jesus all willy-nilly. It seems to be squeezing the gnat and gulping the camel to harshly criticise JW's for not repeating the 'our Father' prayer word for word when most other Christian religions are even guilty of something worse, ie, praying directly to Jesus and often ignoring praying to the Father altogether.
There are only two incidences, I believe, in the bible of someone addressing Jesus directly after his death, and both are debateable as to whether they were prayers to Jesus per se because both were said during a vision when the speaker was seeing Jesus directly in heaven.
They're all just as guilty as each other of not following the scriptural instructions for prayer, the lot of them. -

Watchtower "Worship"
by Sunspot inlet's discuss "watchtower worship"....or the understanding of the idea of "worship".
this is defined as "a reverence for god" in my dictionary.

6) In any Kingdom Hall...there is NO indication of a belief in God OR Christ, as in pictures, statues, etc on the walls, or on the building itself. No clue who or what they believe in OR worship...zip-zero-nada-ALL KHs are devoid of ANYTHING that would give a hint that "anyone worships" there.
That's not quite correct. Every Kingdom Hall out the outside has 'Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses' so they clearly identify Jehovah as who they are all about.
It all depends how you define what 'worship' is. Is anyone interested in posting up every reference to 'worship' in the NT so we can use that as the benchmark. I think you will find it covers a range of things, such as, prayer, song, preaching, reading your bible, charitable works, etc. JW's sing and pray and read their bibles, so they do some worship for sure, let's be reasonable. And at least they try to worship 'the Father' (John 4:23) and give him most of the credit, as Jesus himself did, although it is true they grossly fail to honor Jesus sufficiently (John 5:23) and definitely revere the Watchtower Society ahead of Christ.
I've been to some of the contemporary churches and there is a lot of fluff and emotionalism in them, for sure. I think all of these modern 'rock n roll' religions are just at the other end of the spectrum to the JW's - they are all singing, emotions, waving your arms, jumping up and down like a tribal African, etc. Music seems pretty much their substantive form of worship. I don't see much of an emphasis on music in the NT. And it's all directed to Jesus, in direct contrast to Jesus emphasis on worship of the Father. I find the pentecostal church type worship often pretty mawkish and superficial. It can be just as obnoxious as the JW's emotionally sterile, book-wormy style. JW's are on the other extreme - they have no sense of real joy in their worship, no idea about having a relationship with Christ, no praise from the heart.
They are all just as guilty as each other. No one has the right balance.
I'm no WT apologist, I just think this thread is portraying a bit of a false dichotomy. -

Great letter. The society even contradicts itself in that outline because I'm sure there are specific Watchtower quotes to be found where the 'faithful and discreet slave' demands full submission and obedience. Perhaps they need to bring out a new talk entitled 'Who is in Control - Christ or the Society?' because it seems there is a conflict.
