Narkissos just wondering what scriptures back up your comment here: "and the presbuteroi (presbyters-"elders") being derived from the apostles".
What exactly do you mean 'derived' from the apostles?
I think a big difference to keep in mind with 1 Tim 3:1-10 is that it is talking about a CONGREGATIONAL arrangement for the smooth and orderly running of things. We could say it is a blueprint at the micro (congregational) level, not at any macro level (worldwide/organisational). Paul's words here don't directly suggest a headquarters v congregations link. Other than Paul's obvious desire to see that what he and the apostles handed on to the congregations was upheld, there is nothing to justify the highly centralised, thoroughly top-down control system that exists in the JW organisation (at all levels of teaching and policy). There isn't any evidence in scripture that I'm aware of of a tight, controlled relationship between the congregations and to the apostles and older men (in Jerusalem). The apostles occasionally issued 'decrees' to the congregations (that appear to be more administrative than anything) and they and the other eyewitnesses evidently travelled around the congregations to prevent the corruption of the message and they sometimes recommended certain individuals, but that is a far cry from the ultra heirarchical and layered structure perpetuated up by the Watchtower Society.
Oh, and of course the GB is not even close to having the authority of the apostles. Technically the GB have no more spiritual authority than anyone else of the FDS class but JW's have been brainwashed into imagining that the GB are for all intents and purposes modern day apostles having a unique, special link with Jehovah.

1 Tim 3:1-10 promotes an organisation
by besty inspeaking with a hardline friend (oxymoron alert) tonight he used the above verse as proof that jehovah needs a hierarchical organization - otherwise why stratify the membership?
any refutation?
cheers .

If Armageddon Is Soooooo Close, Why Does The Society Spend $$$ On Buildings
by minimus inand assembly halls and expansion??
seems like a waste to me!

Because the GB believes that Jehovah is going to preserve their little property empire right through Armageddon into the new system, while the rest of the world around them crumbles in ruins. Kinda reminds me of the parable of the rich man who decided to build more and more storehouses, laying up good things for himself, not knowing that he was to die that very night.
I'd imagine their property empire will come to a grinding halt shortly after 2014 when a critical mass of JW's start to realise that the emperor has no clothes on. -

the Pioneer Service Application
by R.F. ini remember when filling this out some time back that one of the questions it had was something along the lines of......... "do you trust in the "faithful and discreet slave" and recognize it as god's sole channel of spiritual truth?.
someone correct for any needed changes to that question.... why ask prospective pioneers this?.
is there any other reason or something pertaining to any legal ramifications as to why they would ask this?.
-

Since 100% unquestioned submission to the FDS (=Watchtower Society) is the foundation cornerstone of being a JW then why wouldn't they ask it?
In reply I would write on the form Psalm 146:3 -

When Did You Start Feeling Uncomfortable In The Truth?

out of the organization.
my history as a jehovahs witness could easily be summed .

When they changed the 'generation' teaching in 1995. I never accepted that 'new light' so did some research and soon learned that the entire 1914 chronology and morass of Watchtower prophecy related to 1914 is false. Thus I completely lost my trust/faith in the Watchtower Society and decided I could no longer slave for an organisation run by some old geezers who are as blind about bible prophecy as any other religious group is. That's when I began my very slow fade.

The Watchtower Society's "Spiritual Paradise"
by Honesty inthere are 729 references to the "spiritual paradise" on the 2006 watchtower library on cd.. .
when you were one of jehovah's witness what was it like to live in this "spiritual paradise"?.
we would enjoy hearing about your daily walk with god the faithful slave (genesis 5:22,24; genesis 6:9) and how refreshed you felt at the end of each glorious day in paradise..

Its easy to have a spiritual paradise when you boot out anyone who thinks otherwise.

Audience participation during public talks
by Bonnie_Clyde inwe hear so much about the boring talks.. several years ago an attempt was made to liven things up a bit by randomly choosing people before the public talk, handing them a slip of paper with a question on it, and asking if they would like to answer the question when called upon during the talk.
that must have been 20+ years ago.
anybody know why that practice was discontinued?.

I remember those good old days. The talks were more interesting back then for sure. It was the same at the Service Meetings also - there was encouragement to use props and other devices to stimulate the audience.
Remember the old days when they had regular slide shows as well?
Those tricks are gone because the GB are hellbent on cracking down on any kind of independent thinking, innovation and creativity. Even the CO's have been curtailed. Most CO's these days are complete drones, like the elders. The Borg only want to crush individual initiative in the interests of organisational conformity. It is the same in any centralised, high control system, from the Moonies to North Korea. Conformity is good, individualism is bad. You are at the meetings to be propagandized by Big Brother, not be entertained by him.
Mind control systems are all about depersonalising and sucking the creativity and colour out of people. That's what being absorbed into the global collective is all about. Unity at all costs. -

Publisher Pioneer Elder CO JC GB and all the titles
by NotaNess indid you ever feel like these all were like a military chain of command?.
and i think i'm just realizing this, but are females not allowed to give talks, or is that not correct?
if not, i know in scripture (1 timothy) it talks about women not being "teachers" of men, or something similar, but when i think back.....at work, i never hear of the females having ever given talks, i always here about the guys.. if i'm correct, as a female in the wts, did that t you off or were you relieved of not having to deal with it anyway?.

All those titles are almost exactly what you will find in any global corporation, except Corporations use different titles:
Board of Directors (GB), Chief Executives (senior Watchtower personnel), SBU's (the Committees), International Managers (District Overseers), National Managers (Branch Overseers), Regional managers (Circuit Overseers), Branch Managers (Elders), Assistant Branch Managers (Ministerial Servants), Sales Reps (Pioneers), door-to-door salesman (publishers).
The whole organizatioin is much more structured and modelled exactly per any typical worldwide sales company rather than the pattern of the first Christian congregations. -

by blondie inindeed, when we read the bible and let it guide .
q8) what scriptural principles help us to reason on the matter of associations?.
god's word be a lamp to our foot.
-
yaddayadda
Wot a boring, dumbed down study article. Nothing but patronising didactic.
And how puke-making is this:
"Bad associations spoil useful habits."
Does adhering to this principle require that you shun unbelievers entirely? The Scriptural answer to that question is no. After all, the apostle Paul himself showed loving consideration for "people of all sorts," including unbelievers. (1 Corinthians 9:22) The very nature of Christianity demands that we show an interest in others--including those who do not share our beliefs."
YEAh RIGHT! Unless of course you are an ex-JW unbeliever in which case you are totally shunned as if you are the scum of the earth. -
