oh the memories you are bringing back to me...yes the cheese danishes were the bomb!! The generic sodas...two kinds cola and lemon lime....My grandmother always told me that the food tasted great only because it had Jehovah's blessing

Fried chicken & and slice of white bread
by MissBehave inanother thread today made me think of this....does it bring back memories for anyone else?
it was the staple food of every assembly i remember.
they made them in the morning and by lunch time the bread had absorbed all the grease from the chicken.

What happened in the 80's?
by Virgochik invarious posters have mentioned how get-togethers and fun times socializing were frowned upon and discouraged somewhere around the early 80's.
everything changed, as far as the picnics, the dinner parties, etc.
i vaguely recall some connection being made to parties and increased "immorality.

In our cong. we use to have some great get-togethers, which is what we called them but all that has changed. No one wants to take the responsiblity for any wrong doing that might go on...apparently the person who organizes the event is the one who is held accountable if anything goes wrong...how were we suppose to control little johnny(an elder's son) from getting in his car and cruising main street when he was suppose to be at the get-together...especially since his own father couldn't control him....

Whose been ripped off financially by his JW brother?
by Spectrum ini posted this in another thread but it is more relevant here.
i worked for jw doing back breaking work for a while only to be told by another jw that he was ripping me of - he was paying me half the going rate.
i was only 17 and naive didn't know anything about the world of work.

There was a brother in our circuit that would hire illegal witnesses and purposely cheat them knowing that they couldn't do anything about it because he would threaten to turn them in to the INS....

howdy
by Oroborus21 ini know i'm not jwd's most popular participant but even i look at this place as a means of support sometimes.
i just wanted to say that this morning my father died of a heart attack while in field service.. i am on my way to new mexico with my daughter.
as some of you know i am df'd so you know how that goes when attending a jw funeral.

Eduardo....I know your family and I am sorry for your loss...your father's obituary was well written...your uncle did the service talk for grandmother when she died that is what she wanted...I almost feel the same way of you do about the older ones in the congregation...I would hate to see the pain in my grandmother's eyes if she ever found out the truths that the Internet is exposing regarding her beloved organization who she unknowingly dedicated most of her life to..some of my most favored memories of her is going out in the field service and attending meetings with her....the district conventions that were held in El Paso and the Circuit Assemblies at the civic center with the orange chairs...WOW!! This is bringing up some emotions....I am new to the board and have been reading off and on for some time...hope you are well...

Funny you should mention eating at expensive resturant...one time in our cong. the brother who signed up to take the DO/CO out to eat forgot so we ended inviting them to eat with us and they were insulted that we took them to Mickie D's and they had to pay for themselves...boy were they offended!!! Hey I was the one who had to share my lunch with my little boy because we had not even planned on going out for lunch that day...Maybe I should have taken them to my little apartment and serve them the bologna and cheese sandwich I had planned for all along...

What Things Irritated You While A Witness?
by minimus ini used to hate it when i'd listen to brother blow give his long winded comment about how we're all supposed to do this or that----and he was barely considered a witness......we had a few elders, and especially the po who would go overtime just because they could.
the po's bookstudy always went overtime.
45 minutes into the meeting he was still on paragraph 3. and he would read every scripture including the ones quoted!!!

How about the pioneer couple who deeply resented their son existance because it meant that they couldn't do more in the organization such as serve at Bethel or do missionary work...maybe they should have thought about that when they were doing the deed....This is also the same couple who are so tight that they squeek when they walk, but were able to go to the District convention in the Bamahas (SP?)

Did your parents find you dates?
by Virgogirl inwhen i hit 19, and showed no signs of interest in finding a nice, suitable brother for a marriage mate, suddenly there started appearing a few "eligible" brothers from out of town at our sunday meetings.
even stranger, they seemed to be meeting up with my parernts and sitting with us.
stranger still, they had been invited back to our house for lunch!

Dates?? in the organization?? In the congregation that I use to attend we would have great get-together and dance to western music. a couple of times we would have a band made up of brothers come and play for us. well at this particular get-together this brother and I danced together a couple of times too much. we were good friends and had always been able to talk with each other about almost anything, even today even though he is married and has children. We still talk alot. well it turns out that the brothers (elders) had a little talk with him and the next get-together he would hardly look at me God forbid dance with me. Poor thing he was miserable all night because the only person he could dance with was his sister. That is the organization for you. One dance-he likes you. Two dances-he wants to date you. Three dances-your getting married. Crazy!!

After reading your posts I had to share this funny story about the hiding of a Xmas tree...My sisters had put up a tree...they worked hours on the tree...putting the tinsel just right evenly over the tree...the ornaments were just perfectly arranged...after they were all finished...My grandmother, who was a devote witnesses at the time was pulling in the drive way...she hadn't visited us in a long time...we weren't expecting her...my sisters got up real quick and both of them pulled the tree into the garage...the tinsel and ornaments were flying everywhere...the scene was so funny like something right out of a "I love lucy" episode...Funny thing was that my grandmother didn't even get out of her car...she just honked her horn for someone to come out...since she was running late for a bible study and wanted to drop off some clothes that she bought for us at a yard sale and of course some literature on Why Witnesses don't celebrate X-mas...
