" Its very difficult for people to walk away from things they have a heavy investment in."-stevenyc.
Yes, there are all the emotions that go with a long relationship. The IDEA of leaving can be more painful than the reality.
Ask a battered woman why she continues to stay with the creep that beats her.

why cant you just leave???
by kid-A inwhat always strikes here on jwd is the number of posters who completely and entirely doubt the jw theology, reject the majority of the teachings and "rules", express their boredom and frustration at having to attend meetings and conventions and yet, still, continue to keep up the facade of attending the meetings, going out in service, essentially choosing to 'live a lie'...... now, i understand fully the complications around leaving such an organization especially concerning family, but, for gods sake people, it would take the most extreme, extraordinary circumstances to keep somebody inside a duplicitous, controlling cult when at any time, you do have the freedom to just walk away.......we are all free moral agents capable of escaping the wts so i humbly ask, .
1) how and why do you keep up the facade?
do your circumstances really justify lying to yourself and family?.

Robo-JW meets Robo-Householder
by mustang inat one time, the jw's took the phonographs from door-door; they also would use a printed message/sermon and hand this to the "householder" to read.
and then we had to learn those awful sermons and sit through the tedium @ the tms.. but times change and so do methods and the reactions to those methods.. fast forward to 2015. we find that bro.
fred steadfast, great-grandson of the founder of the wts, is out in fs.

Mustang! This is just fanciful! How can you possibly imagine this happening in 2015 when all the signs point to the system ending in 2014??!!
Mmmm, quickly, change the date before anyone notices!. -

Dr.Phil's Show on Marriage and those looking for Love- Is Anyone Watching ?
by prophesariah indr. phil's solution to marital & single love life problems is to learn how to fix the one you have or yourself.
his new years resolution for couples is "get your love fix in 2006".
the first couple argues about everything.

I think anewme's post was unusually thoughtful and accurate.
I am more accustomed to being ridiculed for being male, middle-aged and white.
Thank you!

" i thought `how can a loving god allow such bad things to happen to children` - the reasoning book maintains that god doesnt cause such things, but i feel if there was one, he couldnt so much as glance at what is going on, without acting."
I have reached the conclusion that god just doesn't like to get involved.
Pleased to hear you're feeling better! What did you say to you wife when she got home last week?
As beer is one of the main food groups, I can't see any reason to reduce your drinking excessively.
Cheers, Pete. -

Satan controlling 'the world'
by lime05 injehovah's witnesses frequently blame the evil in this world on satan and his demons.
god could destroy the devil today if he wanted to but there are reasons why that doesnt happen which i accept.
but if god did destroy the satan the devil today would pedophiles, rapists, murderers, terrorists and natural disasters, etc... cease to exist over night because satan does not exist.

Satan gets blamed for a heap of things he's got nothing to do with.
Humans do mighty well all by themselves. Sympathy For the Devil?? -

Hi jambon. I had to laugh about the caps. off!!
But in this visual medium it had the right effect. You sound really desperate.
Mental agony is so much worse than physical, you feel as if your head is going to split!
I've been wondering when we might hear from you since you sneaked in in November! I can hear your desperation and I wish I could say something to help. Stay focussed on your wee kids for the moment and lets hear from you tomorrow perhaps.

The Past! the past!
by joelbear inits easy to either demonize the past or think of the past as "the good ol days".
both ways of thinking distract us from making realistic and hopeful goals for our future.
thinking about the past should be relegated to the days when we truly have run out of physical energy and are in the resting days of our life.. think about now.

Does anyone else here fly?
by james_woods indon't know if this has been done before, but i just got the notion that it would be fun to see if anyone else here is a pilot or private airplane owner?

Hi James, I've never actually learnt to fly but I've always been mad keen on aeroplanes. I've covered lots of events as a photographer and had a stint as a reporter for NZ aviation news. Modelling is a hobby I've returned to more recently.
I think there must be a few aviation fans here because I've seen avatars with a P-38,P-51,F-117 and a Dauntless or Devastator. I love the older cabin monoplanes too and classic airliners. Cheers,Pete.
