Sentient,
Great post.
"If you ingrain in a child that there is an unlimited world of possibilities open to them (even if you raise the child in poverty), that they are a loved and wonderful person and that they really can create a life they dream of, "
If we do the above for children then they'll have the confidence of making their dreams come true.

Fairy tales - unsuspected effects on children?
by Spectrum ina couple of years ago there was an article on tv discussing the possible negative effects that that fairy tales can have on children especially girls.
i don't remember it very well but basically they were saying that fairy tales, especially the ones that involve beautiful girls or princesses, put unnecessary pressure on little girls from a very young age to have to look pretty if they are going to get their prince charming or do well in general in real life.
it makes sense because it seems to fall under the category of conditioning and it's easy to condition children.

From what you've written here I'll say that you have done nothing wrong. He sounds like a spoilt child. I don't want her and nobody else is going to have her either. That's unbelievably selfish considering he dumped her. He might not be the marrying kind but others are.
I wouldn't waste my emotions over someone behaving in this way.
Forget it find new friends -

FlyingHighNow,
I think you are right a couple of chapters are missing but the ones you are implying would be a real downer for the children and not fun.
Are you blaming fairy tale stories for you marriage break-up? -

Terry,
Thanks for that indepth analysis. Quite enlightening. I must ask you then what's good fun entertainment that can stimulate a childs fertile mind? I think you've pretty much precluded all the traditional stuff. -

If this is true then the continued use of these "benign" tales should be reconsidered.
What do you all think?
Any child psychologist here that can shed expert light to this? -

Sorry Drew don't know.
But Regarding the 1914 question where did Russell get the 607 date from if the bible didn't support it? Had 587bc already been identified by the secular contemporary or pre scholars of Russell?
I'm not asking for a indepth stuff just a couple of pointers. -

What is the wackiest thing God has ever done?
by DannyBloem inis it killing 42 children because they called prophet elisha a bald headed man (which he probably was, so they did ot even lie)?.
is it killing 70000 innocent israelites because the king david does a counting of the people?
(it is hard to keep the numbers right if the fluctuate so much).

Shazard,
"Thinking that if God uses somebody to punish somebody else, then this first "somebody" is free of his own sins and deeds."
That wasn't my point. God was using the gentiles to punish the israelites then punishing the gentiles for doing what God put in their mind(gentiles) to do.
Imagine your dad telling you to hit your younger brother for not following his rules, so you hit your younger brother and your dad then wacks you upside the head for hitting your younger brother. When you've recovered, you ask your dad why he hit you, and he says, "you know that rule about not hitting your younger brother, well you broke it". You scratch your head trying to figure it out. -

Using gentiles to punish the israelites then punishing the gentiles for punishing the israelites. That's seriously unfair on the gentiles.
