  Seeking advice on official DA

  for a very long time, i have held off on making my departure from the jw's official (though, i am as far removed from them as i can be) because of my mother.

  i did not want her to feel she must shun me when there would be no one to replace my presence in her life.

  this was for practical reasons as well as well as emotional.

  In the past I have always posted in favor of DA, but, in all honesty, I'm having some second thoughts about it. I DA'd to make a statement, to shake people up, but in retrospect, I think this was foolishness on my part. So far, no one has called me to tell me that my example helped them to get out. (plbbt JT! You were right my friend) All my DA'ing did was give them license to slander me mercilessly among themselves, one of their favorite pastimes.

  I don't see any reason to DA if you can do a successful fade. Don't let them put a label on you. Just enjoy your freedom from those idiots! Disassociation is a recognition of their authority.

  elders can call you for a judicial meeting and charge you with anything.

  january of 2000 was my first real 24/7 exposure to the internet and ex-jw sites.

  it was thrilling to read the real life stories of others just like myself, who had escaped the watchtower.

  the affirmation of my own conclusions regarding the truth, and its so-called faithful and discreet slave.

  I wouldn't go back if there was reform, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see reform. I know many JW's that I can't begin to imagine their being able to exist outside of the borg. But it is such a crying shame that many of them have been cut off so severely from loved ones who may have been baptized at 13 and later da'd or got df'd. What a loving religion, forcing a family to shun, as completely as possible, their own flesh and blood, because they reneg'd on a decision they made as a 13 year old. Goddam a 13 year old is a f*cking CHILD by any rational standard. And sometimes those getting baptized are even younger than that. It is truly despicable, there is no possible justification for it.

  It is this insane shunning policy that I would like to see changed, exponentially more than any other policy or aspect of the borg. But, considering the now infamous 8/02 KM quoted the infamous 9/81 WT, I consider the org beyond hope, at least in the short term. The newly reinforced hardline shunning policy serves to keep the 2-hour a month, 50-75% meeting attending JW's scared and in the seats. Everything they do is calculated for effect, it is of necessity that they have taken such a hard line. There may be reform down the road, but it is many years away, don't hold your breath folks.

  I wonder if in the USSR's final days, if the commie hardliners made strident efforts to restore things to the old ways and put a stop to the Glasnost and Perestroika and all that. Perhaps the current situation in the WT is the last gasp of the Jaracz-ites.

  there is no doubt in my mind that the glory days of jehovah's witnesses are over.

  from my knowledge and experience with wt history, i would define the glory days as the decades of the 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's.

  with knorr's great expansionary vision and discipline, dubs in the 1950's became a "somebody" in the 1950's.

  how would you react if doctors come up with a test that could determine if your son would turn out to be gay when he grows up?

  Among hetro-men, I find that very few will admit that another guy is good looking. That is how afraid they are of the gay issue.

  That's such a dumb thing. I'm hetero and have never had sexual feelings towards men, but, it is no big mystery to me why women go crazy for guys like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. They are beautiful men!

  You never see handsome studs hanging out with pimple-faced nerds, do you? Good-looking guys hang with other good-looking guys, so they obviously know how to judge whether another guy is good-looking or not!

  I started studying in 1992, was baptized in 1993. At this time, some of the org's former glory was still lingering about. Fred Franz was still alive, the "Live Forever" book was being used to conduct studies (instead of the watered-down "Knowledge" book), they hadn't backed off of the 1914-generation or the sheep-and-goat doctrines yet, going to Bethel or missionary school was still a big deal, etc. In my short 9 1/2 years in the borg, the wheels really came off. They're running on fumes right now.

  i just got an email about marilyn z. she will be having bypass surgery this morning at 11:45 (ct)she thought she was going in for angioplasty, but they discovered that she has 4 arteries with 90% blockage.

  i'll keep everyone posted.

  Over the span of a few days last March, Marilyn spent over 6 hours on the phone with me, talking dubbie stuff, all on her dime! I don't know if I'd have made it without her. If you talk to her, tell her Dan from Ohio is pulling for her!!!!

  WORST PRESENTATION I'VE EVER SEEN

  Mortality

  at one time, nearly all of us held the thought that we would live forever.

  the thought of our being mortal and actually dying just wasnt there.

  deep inside, we all know we are going to die one day, but has the realization of the truth of that ever just hit you, right out of the blue?

  Interesting post Lew.

  For me, mortality is the issue that has hit me hardest since leaving the borg. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

  I never thought about the possibility of dying (of a natural or other cause) for one moment when I was in. But, at the same time, I wasn't a zealous JW at all, a meeting attender only, for the most part. I hated field service and rarely participated. So I often felt doomed to be killed by that wonderful, merciful, loving and gracious god Jahoover at the battle of Ermyglebbin. My only escape from this feeling of doom was sort-of an unconscious, "salvation-by-association" hopefulness I had. I rationalized that, in spite of my being a mostly inactive JW, that somehow I would be spared as long as I had some sort of connection to JW's.

  My borg years were pretty strange. Glad to be out and finding my true self.

  Never Again

  it has become crystal clear to me that i would never return to or join any religion again.

  this rejection of spritual tyranny has fostered a freedom of thought and actions that are so liberating, i can hardly stomach the stories of repression and mind control, we read here daily.. someone recently under 'covert ops' thread played a tape recording of a recent 'service meeting', i could only listen to about 3 min of it, before having to click the player off.

  i could not make myself listen to the drivel any longer.
