How is JWD doing ?
by Simon insomeone came out with the tired old claim that the site is dying, there is a mas exodus, yada yada yada.
some people would really love for that to happen, i know .... we have gone down a few places on bigboards simply because some new sites were added to it that have more posts - the sites we are ranked alongside all went down by the same amount at the same time and we've gone up against some and down against others (not that sheer post numbers matter that much).
also, a combination of optimising page caching and alexa changing how they rank things has reduced the ranking on that too ... but how are we really doing?.

Was I a coward?
by DanTheMan inright before i disassociated myself last march, i sent an email to quite a number of jw's that contained only a link to an "apostate" website that had been instrumental in my seeing the the truth about the wt.. well, nobody responded to it except for one person, a guy who i hadn't had any contact with my last year in.
he started out with "yikes, do you know i'm disfellowshipped?
" he then went on for several paragraphs defending the org, how loving the brothers were when they disfellowshipped him .

I would feel a sense of responsibility to those who actually showed an interest in knowing the real truth.

Were the doors locked at your KH, during meetings?
by JH ini remember a time when the brothers locked the doors during a meeting.
if you arrived late, they had to come and unlock the door to let you in.
i also remember a time when they weren't locked.

I never went to a hall where the doors were locked.
I would be interested in what the Fire Department has to say on the subject, as I would think that would be a safety issue.

Why Do You or Don't You Believe In The Bible?
by minimus indo you believe in the bible just because you were raised to believe?
are you sure it's "believable"?
.....have you convinced yourself the bible is just another book?
-
freedom96
Just because I don't believe in the WTS anymore, doesn't mean I don't believe the bible. And for those on the fence, what harm does it do to believe? It doesn't hurt any, and I would rather believe and be blessed one day with what is given to us after death, than to be wrong and who knows where that goes.

Several weeks ago there was a sitcom on tv that had a similar story, where a big "he" man got a tatoo in chineese, but it turned out to say something to the effect of: "Of two men who love each other, this one is the woman."

"We only believe what the Bible says" or Help Refute a Common JW Claim
by Check_Your_Premises ini am presently trying to get my wife to not drink the kool-aid (get baptized).
i have been pointing out to her that her and all jw beliefs come from the interpretation of scripture provided by the gb, and the inherent problems/contradictions therof.
they say something like, "we don't put the gb on a pedestal or anything, we believe what we believe because it is in the bible, not because the gb is telling us to believe it.".

It sounds like you are logical, and think clearly.
Whatever is "truth" must be able to stand up to being challenged. Before she makes such a big step such as getting baptized, she needs to make an educated decision, and look at both sides, pro and against the religion. If it is the "truth", it will hold its own. IF it doesn't, which we already know it won't, then she needs to take a hard look at what she wants to do with her life.
Do whatever you gotta do to get her to truly study everything. She owes it to both of you to do so now, as she won't be allowed to after baptism, and the consequences at that time will be much greater.

disfellowshipping children
by QCA1 inawhiile back i posted telling you about my grandson whos mother hit him for not saying grace before a meal ( he is 15yrs old ) he has been hit on many occasions,he hates being a witness and is forced to go to the hall by his mother.
my grandson phoned us on the day his mother had hit him,he was sobbing down the phone to us and said he wanted to come and stay with us, i said yes and that i would fetch him, anyway his mum and dad have had nothing to do with me since despite me writing to them expressing how much i love my grandchildren and that i wish to see them,i have had no reply.. the other day my grandson phoned and said to my younger son that he is leaving home when he is 16 and can he come and stay with us,of course i said yes.
what i need to know is will he be disfellowshipped for living with his grandma ( i am not a jw ) of course i know what this will mean for him,his brothers and parents will shun him.. as for me what else can i do to see my grandchildren.

It is great that you will provide a place for your grandchildren. At least they will know unconditional love.

JWs at My Door - and the Answer to a Prayer
by hemp lover inthis happened almost three years ago, but since i always enjoy reading about other people's jw encounters, i thought i'd finally share one of my own.. i lived in an apartment for four years following my disfellowshipping and no one had ever come to my door, not even so much as a shepherding visit.
(yeah, right.
) i had lurked on this board for a while, but was put off by the anger and negativity of some people and so i didn't stay long.

I don't think most JW's can accurately back up what they believe, not on their own without books and magazines telling them so.
I don't doubt that lady was nervous as hell, and knew she couldn't stand a chance against you.

Where is their Love?
by Sadie5 ina couple of days ago i ran into a jw at my job at walmart.
she is a single lady around 50 years old and she looked terrible.
i asked how she was,(she always talks to me) and she related how she had lost her job and had to work two low paying jobs.

A big problem with witnesses is that so many of them never were very active in another church before coming to the Kingdom Hall. Especially all those who grew up a witness and don't know any different.
I have spent some time in some non-denominational churches recently, and I am blown away at all the stuff they do for others. The fact is, they are much more giving and loving, from their hearts, than any congregation of witnesses I have ever seen.
