3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
11"No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."
I read this scripture during the meeting last night (I now spend the meetings just reading my bible) and it made me think of the Society teachings. If a baptised woman was caught in the act of adultery, she would be taken to the elders about it. Whilst she wouldn't be stoned, she would likely be disfellowshipped. In the above example, Jesus just gave her simple loving council, which would no doubt have helped her more than telling the apostles and pharisees to shun her.
I can't believe I never seen the obvious flaws in the religion before being directed to this site, how can a religious organisation that teaches us to imitate Jesus, also teach us to shun people who do wrong?

The chaperoning rule has got to be one of the craziest rules the Society has come up with. Has anyone had a problem with it? I find most Congregations don't seem too strict on it, but my one is very strict. If any unmarried boy and girl are seen going out alone, they'll both be dragged into a meeting with the elders shortly after, even if they're not dating.
Even when I believed it was the Truth I thought this rule was silly. I always thought 'Where does it say that in the bible?' It was the only thing I disagreed with the Society on. I guess it should have made me realise sooner that if they had that wrong they could have had other things wrong as well.
It shows me now the control issues the Society has, and the lack of trust it has in it's members.
It's as if they think any occasion where a boy and girl goes out alone will end up in them having sex... Crazy thinking. -

The name Jehovah and demons.
by Zico inthe society teaches that if unexplainable things are happening in your home, then shouting out the name jehovah will cause them to stop.
as you probably know, this is meant to be because these strange things are caused by demons, which may have posessed an object from your home, which was previously used in demonic activity.
but, supposedly, since they fear jehovah, shouting out this name can cause these things to stop, even if only temporarily.

Hi Brigid. I've never had any problems myself, but I know brothers and sisters who say they have, so it was just something I was wondering about.

Elder says no to congregation picnic: Brooklyn says no large gatherings
by truthseeker inour congregation has really gone down in recent months.
the friends don't talk to each other, there have been many disfellowshippings and jc's.. an elder i was talking to in the kh after the meeting says that "he and the other elders would like to have a congregation picnic but can't because bethel disapproves of large social gatherings.".
i looked at this elder and felt sorry for him - it was like hearing a child cry because mother wouldn't let him outside to play baseball.. the cong.

We generally have about 3 or 4 congregation gatherings a year. We had one a few months ago as a surprise party for our CO as it was his last visit, and it was organised by some of the elders and their wives.
It never even occured to me that the Society might not like this, it's probably only a matter of time before these get stopped then... -

I know this won't mean the Society is correct in their other teachings, it was just something I have been thinking about.
Thanks for your answers.

My whole life belongs to the Society. All my friends are Witnesses, my family are Witnesses, even my job is dedicated to the Society. I was born into the 'Truth' and up until a few months ago I was certain that I would one day be living eternally on a Paradise Earth. Now my faith is in pieces and I don't really have any idea what my future holds, there are thousands of members on this board, how could you all deal so easily with the realisation that you were actually no closer to understanding the purpose of life, or the real meanings of the bible, than all the other 'Worldly' ones who you probably once felt pity for? -

Can anyone provide me with any evidence (links to other sites is fine) that Jerusalem could not have possibly fallen to the Babylonians in 607?
Thanks again for your answers.

How do I do quotes? Gregor. (Or anyone else) Have you got any quotes from the Society publications where they describe the final King of the North as the Communist bloc of Nations. How did they apply this to the scripture? Thanks.

I'm not completely sure how best to respond... I have come up with many more questions which I will post in seperate threads over the next few days when I have time. I have been a member of this religion all my life, I don't know of anything else, so I want to make absolutely sure of everything that is currently going through my mind. Thanks for all your answers.

Hi all, I have just joined this site after having been visiting as a guest for a few months. I am searching for answers so please be patient with me. A friend of mine in the Congregation has directed me to this site as he has been having doubts about the Organization, though he said he never posts on it. Despite expecting to find nothing of any interest, I've been amazed at some of the things I've read and the fact that this might not actually be 'The Truth.' Whilst I'm not going to deny that there are obvious problems within the Organization, there is, however, one thing I'm having problem understanding, how could people become anointed ones without the holy spirit and Jehovah on the side of the Organization? There's an anointed one in my Congregation, he's been a special pioneer for many years and is the PO of the Congregation. He only became an anointed one a few years ago when an older anointed one in a nearby Congregation became unfaithful. Whilst I understand that you don't need to be from the same area as a former anointed one to replace the anointed one, the fact that it seemed an almost instant change made me think there was a link here, and that this was evidence of Jehovah making sure there would be that an exact 144,000 number of people in heaven. I witnessed first hand the change in this brother's outlook on life once he became 'anointed.' I'd had many conversations before this with him about the paradise, and he was always very excited about the prospect, but after this he had no interest in going to the paradise, and instantly looked forward to a time when he would rule as a king in heaven. As most of you will know, 'The Society' teaches that you are only anointed if you know you are beyond all certainty. The fact that basically all the anointed ones (except the obviously mentally unbalanced ones) have clearly dedicated many, many years to Jehovah, shows they have a real love for Jehovah. I can't believe it's a coincidence that 8000+ people who have dedicated their lives to Jehovah will today be able to believe beyond all certainty that they are anointed. To me it shows that whilst there may be issues with the Organization that need improvement, it still has Jehovah's approval, and it must therefore be the closest religion to having the Truth, even if it does get things wrong sometimes. I would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts, and I'm willing to listen to everyone. As I said, I'm searching for answers. Thanks.
