I've gotten less defensive around them and don't always feel the need to let my inner Saul out. I clean teeth for a living and talk to people about everything all day long. In my experience, the people that are religious and have all their questions answered have the least to talk about and are very rigid and haughty and condescending when asked simple questions. Sound familiar? They also are seriously not living in the present moment, their awareness has been held hostage and is transfixed on the things yet to come. However, there are twice as many religious/spiritual people who fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum and you can't put them into one box. They are generally nice people who have chosen religion as their frame of reference for dealing with their reality. I personally just find it boring and unsatisfying.

To be a Nice Apostate or a Mean Apostate.....
by AK - Jeff in..... that is the question.. how do you react - and is it a 'planned reaction', when confronted with jdubs in public?.
i have personally determined that i will not allow people whom i knew for 40 years in some cases to 'shun' me without a cost to the reputation of their religion in the eyes of those who see it.. if i come face to face with a witness who turns the other way or rudely brushes past [as if i am dead], i will point out to all in the area [carefull not to appear the raving lunatic] that this is the way jehovah's witnesses act toward one who has quietly left their faith.
i expect two things will begin to happen as a result.. 1- witnesses will become so paranoid of the possiblility of meeting me and being embarrassed in public, that they will alter their schedules to avoid the places i might be.

sKally, You are nuts! I love it! That would been 'the best part of waking up' if I had been on your block. I'm a wus when it comes to seeing Witnesses. It hardly ever happens, but when it does, I just look at them then feel ill and it bugs me for like a day, then I forget about it. But, I feel happy that they are getting their instant karma by staying in that cesspool of haters.

Elders with STRONG personalities....
by JH inthere is an elder in my congregation that has a very strong personality.
he drove volkswagens and many bought the same make as he did.
we had another elder back then that drove a dodge aries and another elder who had a peugeot garage and he sold so many second hand peugeots to members of the congregation.

give me a goddamn break! why are they so retarded? Listening to sadistic stories and getting little stiffies of gratefulness over their imagined superiority. Weirdos. And what exdub ever fantasized about going back to the "flock" for anything? They have nothing that could approach satisfying one of our needs. Well, sometimes, I think about going to my parents when I need a fax machine or to make a long distance call. I guess I better watch out.

What planted the seed of doubt that lead you to leave or think of leaving?
by NanaR ini've been thinking of this a lot lately.
the following experience ties my first doubt in with my present life.
as a backdrop to this, you should know that i was a 5th generation "raised in the truth" jw through my mother (her great-grandfather got "the truth" from pastor russell).

There was too many to really pinpoint it. I do remember what made me feel confident to leave. We studied the greatest man book twice in a row, and I really thought Jesus was nice and no one around him really got the message. What stressed him out the most was the Pharisees and then it hit me - my cong was the Pharisees and if Jesus was kicking it in my town, he sure as hell wouldn't come to our congr, to our religion for that matter. I don't feel any particular attachment to Jesus nowadays, but I feel a kinship in that he was a decent person.

SCARY(actually hilarious) JW Urban Legends (smurf content)
by *jeremiah* indoes anyone have any dub urban legend stories?.
i remember a story running rampant when i was in my pre-teenage years that went a little something like this:.
word on the street was that a young child went to the circuit assembly with his parents.

I heard something about the John Denver story. He did that because there was a married JW sister who was sending John some naughty pics of herself and she became somewhat of a stalker, and he was so disturbed by her behavior that he didn't want those freaks at his concert. It upset his upstanding morals too much. Imagine that!

What did you throw out when u became a JW?
by dobbie init really pigs me off now when i think back to what i was told to get rid of when i was studying.my collection of stephen king books, my new madonna like a prayer record that i loved, my alice cooper and guns and roses album.
i was even told not to listen to classical music because some of the composers led such debauched lives!also any film with an 18 certificate was a nono in case others were stumbled - even though i have seen other jws reading stephen king books and watching 18 cert films and my husband had the complete madonna collection!and of course depeche modes 'personal jesus' song which i loved.
and my lost boys album and video cos it was about vampires.i was just wondering what sort of things were you told you should get rid of and why?

I was raised in it, but I had a lot of cds. I was reinstated after my first DFing and I wasn't magically better and I was really stressed out trying to do every last possible thing the "right way" to bring this peace of mind I was told would come. Yeah right. So my dad said I was being unduly influenced by my music and accused me of not being able to come up with original thoughts because I was always singing verses that had to do with whatever people were talking about. I love music!!! So I took my collection of almost 100 $12-18 cds and took them around and gave them away. U2, Sublime, the Cure, Depeche Mode, so many many more. I actually threw the Sublime ones away because they sang about drugs. So, like about 2 months later I realized the music was not the problem and left for good. Thank god for Limewire. Also, when I was little, I got a unicorn plastic thing somehow, and my mom took a knife and sawed off its horn and stuck a flower in the hole. This was at the time I thought stuffed animals had feelings. I wanted to believe in fairies and unicorns and stuff. WTF?

I tried to read the Star Date Log to my husband and I couldn't because I was laughing too hard. Have you ever noticed people that have had their spirit almost crushed to death end up being so hilarious? After some time, distance and healing of course.

This is a little off topic, but I needed to confess this to somebody one of these days. When I was little and learned about personalized plates, I told my family I wanted mine to say I..M..A..J..W..2. One of my brothers told me I was stupid and the other one told me people would think I was a Jew.
