Does the JW Cult Rob People of Their Humanity!

well for those of you who many not know i gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on the 31st jan, however our joy soon turned to concern when it was discovered our son had breathing problems.

this concern later turned to fear as we learned that he had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (cdh) and that he would need an operation asap.. basically our baby had a hole in his diaphragm and most of his digestive system now resided in his left chest cavity compressing his heart and lungs into the remain space in the right cavity.

this is a very serious condition and much of the information we were given made very bleak reading.

Does the JW Cult Rob People of Their Humanity?

I am not sure that it does really - there are many many caring and loving JWs out there, and I say that now as a total outsider.

What this religion does is makes the rank and file frightened, unsure and unable to respond to situations such as yours. I am sure that many elders have been moved by the tragedy of the Haiti earthquake but they won't publically pray for the victims in the meetings. Why not - because of fear of seeming to be out of line with unscriptural and unwritten JW convention. I have rarely heard anyone pray for individuals in the congregation. Again, the reason is that this does not appear to be 'the done thing'. Because they are so ingrained with the notion that God only cares about JWs, they cannot bring themselves to see the humanity in others.

Many of us who have left the religion have been humbled by the realisation that God probably sees all of us humans in much the same way, regardless of religion, race, gender or sexual preference.

I have tried both Vegemite (lived in Aus for a few years) and Marmite.

I eat Marmite most days because as a vegetarian it is a good source of vitamin B12.

during my life as jw i have studied many, many books of the wt at the weekly book study.. here you will find some of the books considered during the years with their publishing date:.

1955 new heavens, new hearth.

1961 from lost paradise to..... 1962 let your will be done on earth.

Deep-Blue-Sea - we must be about the same age. I just about remember studying the New Heavens and new Earth book when I was just a kid.

I lived in India for a year or so. I would say Namesta to people at the same time bringing my hands together in a prayer like position.

I never heard anyone in the congregation say it wasn't appropriate - it's a standard form of greeting in India.

I go to support my wife. It is the one and only time I ever go to our local Kingdom Hall.

I have even managed to be on holiday for the memorial so at least we get to go to different congregation where I don't know if they are just as hypocritical as the cong I was in.

did you feel guilty ,when ignoring disfellowshipped ones ?

i was having an affair with a pioneer at the time and a girl who was disfellowshipped was in the loo at the hall (she actually had not done aything scriptually wrong (but the elders thought she had ) i tried to smile at her as i felt i was not in a position to judge anyone as guilt was destroying me but she just looked down at the floor , 14 years later we are good friends and both "free".

when you were "in" and ignored disfellowshipped did you ever think "im not in a position to judge anyone " ?.

As an elder I followed the Society's general guidance but at the same time as an elder you had some leeway to check to see if they wanted to return.

After I stepped down, I made it a point to always speak to disfellowshipped ones, even to the point of taking them out for a few beers. It amazing what you find out.

Disfellowshipping and the subsequent shunning is a way of getting rid of people and then making sure they never get to tell their side of the story.

WTS was the first on the scene after the Haiti earthquake

hey!.

the following story is apparently circulating in several south-american bethel-branches: after the earthquake in haiti, the wts was the first provide help in the form of 18 doctors who was transported in by air.

this clearly show how well the organization work bla bla bla.. im curious if anyone else here has heard this story, or have information about how effective the wts helping work really was..

The WT don't do humanitarian work. Even if they were first on the scene; (1) they look after their own first and (2) they offer only to convert non Witnesses.

Despite all they may say they do not follow Christ's example.

Ray Midgley could be very intimidating though I suspect he had a dry sense of humour.

On one visit he had banged on about modern pop music. So at a coffee break Iduring field service, asked him, "well Ray what sort of music do you like then?" He said "oh something like Gilbert and Sullivan". I feigned shock and indignation, "not subversive Victorian satire; didn't you know it was considered very shocking in its day?". He just gave a wry smile.

Does the organization still police people when it comes to saving seats at conventions?

this was a huge source of contention between me and my ex.

my parents were in the same district as us; i always thought it would be nice to sit together especially when i had two daughters in one year.

my ex rufused to sit with my parents if they saved us seats and he would never allow me to save two seats for them.

I don't care any more.

I don't go to any Kingdom Hall meetings so no problems there.

I go to the Circuit and District Assemblies to support my wife. Finding a seat is a problem when there is just two of you.

I am in two minds about it.

The 1914 doctrine is becoming less and less relevant as the years slip by. On the other hand they just don't seem to be able to drop it, it is still mentioned frequently enough in the literature although these are more vague now a days.

I think that it would be extremely difficult to drop it in the near future without it having a big effect on many.
