"i find no other means to prove myself to be impudent with success, and happily a fool, than by my contempt of shame; as, for instance-i maintain that the son of god was born: why am i not ashamed of maintaining such a thing?
but because it is a shameful thing.
i maintain that the son of god died: well that is wholly credible because it monsterously absurd.
Peaceful,
How do you argue with that?
You can't. It must be true.
Same that an impartial god tells us that a woman is worth only 60% of a man's value.
That's OK to have slaves but others have freedom of choice.
See... it all makes sense once you're brainwashed.
found this interesting piece...... .
today, the majority of biblical scholars, both catholic and protestant, assert that st. john of zebedee did not write the gospel that bears his name.
they ascribe authorship to the "anonymous" beloved disciple.
Simplesally,
Pete, can you give me the link to the site where this came from so I can send it to my Catholic dad? He loves theology and this is right up his alley.
I found the following links related to peacefulpete's expose:

Average price of a single family home in Southern California
is $2,500,000. and a three bedroom apartment now rents for $8,000 a month
Thanks for the tip. I've been thinking about moving to California, but after checking the Real Estate ads I thought they were too expensive.
Seeing that they came down in price, I might buy one.

flavious josephus was a jewish historian, who lived around the times near when jesus was supposed to be alive.
(from 37 ce to circa 100 ce).
Although there is also a version of the name Moses being Egyptian in origin, the thing that clinches it is the explanation of the name's meaning. "drawn out".
This would definitely make it Hebrew/Chaldean in origin.
The whole story about him is crazy, anyway.
A puzzling story is why Yaweh found Moses and tried to kill him. You can find this on Exodus 4
24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
An interesting link supporting your claim can be found at http://www.bib-arch.org/bswb_BR/bswbbr1903f1.html#1. But like you say... If he existed at all.
i have a legitimate question.
not knowing where to go, maybe you all could answer me.
are witnesses obsessed with sex?
This is all counterbalanced, however, by the fact that the adults are treated like children by the leadership.
You should work for Reader's Digest. You totally summed it up.
does anyone remember a watchtower saying that costume parties were inappropriate for christians?
i seem to remember that they were labeled in the "deamon" category, even if you had one and it had nothing to do with halloween.. is this true?
does anyone remember this crap?
Stephanus,
Excuse me? How do good JWs do their parts in the assembly dramas if they don't dress up as Egyptians, Babylonians, Philistines and other pagans? It seems they have two sets of rules...
You have to remember that this is not carousing with dancing and getting drunk. This is more like theatre. Like they did in Jesus time. Remember that there were no women perfoming theatre in those days.
OK. bad example.
Actually the plays in the assemblies are modeled after the simpler times during Shakespeare. Ok. bad example again. We would not want people to think we are gay.
OK never mind.
Costume parties are bad just because we say so. So there.
i'm a russian and want to obtain some old (pre 1991) wt publications in russian.

Do you speak Spanish? I ask only because "Ruso" is Spanish for "Russian"... I'm fluent in Spanish and know some Russian, and I don't know too many other people with that combination of languages!
I think that Cuba has plenty of them.

Anishi,
Moses might have kept his Egyptian name since it was in Egypt that he learned most of his spell-craft and esoteric knowledge
Actually, Moses's name was Chaldean, the language spoken by hebrews and neighboring countries. This is puzzling because, to begin with, I cannot imagine a princess from Egypt giving him a hebrew name.
Another problem with language would be that if Hebrews were slaves for more than three hundred years, they would speak Egyptian, not Chaldean or a derivative. Tell me how many Blacks speak the African language of their ancestors in America.
One of the points of this thread is that according to Josephus, the snake was to be hit on the head by both Adam and his wife. Unless we have both a male and a female messiah, this was no prophecy.
I read somewhere that there were two branches of religion: Mushite and Aaronite. With time, they even made them brothers, and the Aaronites wound up in charge of the temple.

Euphemism:
One of the main reasons I am leaving the Witnesses is because I believe in the right to self-determination. For the government or doctors to start claiming that they have a right to give someone treatment against their own beliefs--however misguided those beliefs might be--is very dangerous.
What is someone wants to kill himself and feels the only way out is suicide?
What if they want to kill themselves because they were DFd and want to end it all before Armaggeddon?
What if the doctors realize that these people are under the control of a dangerous group, and not in control of their faculties?
I am mostly supporting the minors.
Talk to people who left the cult, but previously allowed their families to die rather than receive blood.
