They failed to mention nautical rule #1. "the shortest distance between 2 points, nautically, is a great curve"

Help with a project, please...
by chelleadam inokay, so i'm going to be seeing my parents before long.
they are both solid jw's.
i have been a baptist for over 5 years now, and during that time i've found lots of verses in the nwt that are translated incorrectly.

Yeah, too bad I don't have that one anymore. I do have one of their "KJV", and even that's messed up.
Thanks for the suggestions.

In bed with a WT clone
by Axeman ini married a jw convert.
looking back it was if she related to me and the kids like we were a duty like she was reading a scrip on how to relate to us.
like her love ( if you can call it that ) depended on how well we performed as witnesses.

LOL, ninja
Axeman, I can't relate to that as a spouse, I was never married to a witness. However, I was engaged twice to JW men. One was superspiritual and was only interested because I was a regular pioneer and would be a credit to him. The other made me feel guilty because he was living such an extreme double life. Either way the relationship was more tied to the witnesses than tied to each other.

Well, I still have my old NWT, and I have lots of study references on the meanings of hebrew and greek words. I also have some info on the ones who translated the NWT, but I don't want to break that out on them until later if possible since it will be considered "apostate". Thanks for the links, fullofdoubtnow.

My Story (in detail)
by KW13 inits sometimes hard for us ex-dubs to share our stories and even harder for those who can't leave the organization and need to vent.
i would encourage all those with a story to tell to do so, i'd really enjoy reading it as i do already read the stories you all shared.. i grew up without my dad and almost without my mum since she was always out drinking or doing something else.
we've been homeless and without money, for years no one in the family had a telephone and my dad offered the sum total of 1.50 a week in child support before running away to american for a few years, abandoning his responsibilities (which he successfully evaded right up to me being too old to need or want his help).

I'm so glad that you've found meaning in your life and happiness. Many people never find those, either they live their whole life miserable, or they actually do commit suicide. You should count your lucky stars to have come this far. Congratulations.

Okay, so I'm going to be seeing my parents before long. They are both solid JW's. I have been a baptist for over 5 years now, and during that time I've found lots of verses in the NWT that are translated incorrectly. Unfortunately, I've never made a list of these errors. I know this is going to be a big deal to them, if I refuse to use the NWT (which I will). Can you tell me any verses that you know of offhand that are translated incorrectly?
I'm going to compile a list so when they give me grief about not using their bible, I'll be able to show them why.
Thanks, all.

Who and what would you have been if not for the JWs..............
by fifi40 inabandoned got me thinking about this is an earlier post, when he said along the lines of 'he wished he had never had thw whole jw experience'.
i also remember reading recently on another thread how one poster said their creative talents were stifled.. so now i am pondering what life woulda/coulda been like...............had i not had jw parents................in my own case i was very bright at school and excelled in maths and english subjects, but i remember zero encouragement from my parents for all that i was acheiving, or to pursue any type of career.............so maybe i was destined to be a journalist, an accountant (or maybe not)........i always liked the thought of acting, but guess that is most kids dream and i was also drawn to my fathers vocation, that of training racehorses but being the fourth child and having three older brothers my dad didnt take this very seriously.
i also love doing old houses up and interior design, which whilst i have done for my own personal use never considered as a career...................and then there is the latent writer in me just bursting with a bestseller.. oh my!!

I've always wanted to be a pediatric nurse. Of course, now I have to wait until the kids are grown so I can afford to go back to college.

Would I be dfd if ?
by FourMs inwell, let me fill you in on a few things first.
i have stopped all jw activity since a few months and as mentioned in other posts, i am being stalked by every elder and car group looking to stretch their service time.
when they come i just ignore them by not answering the door (or the phone when they call).. today they came (for the 3rd time in 3 days) and when i went outside a few hours later my neighbor was out front of his house and after some small talk, he informed me that i had some dressed up people come to my door.

I think they can dissasociate you, but I don't believe they can disfellowship you without a judicial comittee or you making some direct statement that you no longer wish to be a witness.
