Hey - I LOVE the Great Pumpkin defense. I will use this! Sincerity is truly the least of the virtues.

Dinner with Friends
by sweet pea injust wanted to post that besty and i had some guests over this weekend: dncall, whoknows and dagney.
it was a real pleasure to spend time with you - you are great people and very brave to have taken a stand and put your money where your mouth is.
it's been very painful coming to the realisation that everything we believed in has been a fairytale and as a result of calling "emperors new clothes!

A special thank you to Sweet Pea and Besty for taking a leap and inviting us over. It was a wonderful evening, Sweet Pea is quite the hostess with the mostest! Dagney and my husband share many friends in common. I think we all felt that we had been good friends for a long time. It does mean so much to talk to people who really understand. As Sweet Pea said, now we all have to keep the hope that our dear friends in the Borg will see the light. In the meantime, we are truly enjoying our new friends. I love dinner parties!

I'm terrible at friendships!

i'm terrible at keeping up with my friends.
i don't call them often enough, or i make an effort in the beginning and then i let it slide.

I can relate. Its not that I'm anti-social, but I am not good at the phone thing, I would much rather talk in person. If I can't do that, I try to compensate with email and I send cards often too. I find email comfortable because it doesn't demand an immediate response from anyone and seems less intrusive. I know sometimes it would be nicer if I just picked up the phone, but I have some weird intimidation about it. I guess we all have our little ids.

Overcoming deep depression....success stories??
by oompa inguys, for those who know me here, i apologize in advance for being such troublesome pain in the ass.
i have had some scary low spots these past two years, and was imo on way too many meds.
i really had a death wish for awhile, and do not want to revist that feeling.

So many good suggestions. First of all, we really, really feel for you. You have a lot of courage to take this stand re the "religion" without your wife, losing all social contact, and possibly, your marriage. This last year has been extremely difficult for us even though my husband and I are fading together. We have lost all of our friends. I would only add that it really helped me to contact some people who were close friends but were df'd in recent years so we had had no contact. Most I had not spoken to in over seven years. My husband and I have been able to rekindle these relationships and it has been really helpful. They have all been so happy to talk to us again. Is there anyone like that in your life? One guy we hadn't had any contact with in 24 years, and he was very happy to hear from us, plans a special trip to visit. These people really understand where you are coming from, plus you have some history with them. I realize as I read my post that this may be difficult if your wife won't have anything to do with them, but perhaps you could meet them somewhere yourself, or just re-establish contact somehow, by phone or email. Just remember that we all think you are a funny, smart and brave guy, and we care about what happens to you. I wish we could have you over for dinner. I am a pretty decent cook. If you are in L.A., let us know.

Why do we get stumbled out of JW's because of imperfect people?
by reniaa ini see this a lot on this forum, loads of people saying they left jw's because of "hypocritical ....... ( put elder, pioneer, couple, sister, brother, governing body) here.. but?.
why would you expect any man-run organisation if you believe the bible, to have to be perfect and not be full of imperfect people that will come across as hypocritical?.
the bible examples from israelites onwards name anyone :- moses, king david, pharasees, paul the one thing the bible doesn't do is white-wash them it shows that however much we follow the laws we are always fighting our own imperfection usually failing every time and needing to be corrected sometimes punished (moses had to give-up chance of seeing the foretold land), so why do we hold this against jw's as a reasons not to be a jw's anymore?.

For me it was not the people that caused me to leave. It was the fact that I was no longer able to stifle my doubts and questions about the JW TEACHINGS and I finally decided to examine my lifelong religion of 40 years. I can forgive imperfection, but not deliberate deceit. I would say the majority of JWs that we knew were good and decent people, and we had a few funny, smart, kind individuals as close friends. I miss them. Of course, our little group was considered the radical unrighteous liberal wing by some in the congregation (we drink Martinis before dinner - oooooh), but we managed to mostly ignore those jerks.

What will you do when the Great Tribulation Begins?
by Malkiel ini've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

OK, so I revised the letter mostly becasue of Scottsman... please read
by dawg indad, .
since our time on this planet is short, i wanted to take a moment and tell you that you were the person that i loved more than any other person in the world.
nothing has made me sadder than the events that have surrounded this last year; events that were years in the making yet in my mind were unavoidable.

Dawg, In my opinion, your letter is loving and heartfelt as well as being logical and persuasive. I truly hope for the sake of all involved that he reads its. Speaking as a parent who had a child leave the borg before I did, I can say I would certainly read it and it would affect me greatly. If he reads it, it can't help but make him think. When I consider the pain and suffering caused by this evil policy, I want to drag my teeth on the pavement. We will be thinking of you.

So what caused you to have doubts in the first place?
by nicolaou ini had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.
in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.
i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

Bogus chronology and creature worship (FDS). After 40 years, I finally decided to read the bible as they asked me to. I took a few weeks to read the NT in different translations along with Greek Interlinear, Wycliffe Bible Commentary, Vine's Dictionary and WT concordance. That did it for me.
