  I'm a 6
  Ex-JW who now refuses to be pigeon-holed!
  I think religion is a racket and just another reason mankind has devised to hate and seek to destroy eachother.
  I believe in a God of creation but I don't believe the answers to questions such as 'Why are we here?' are found in a book written by men.
  I believe in living a good life and am open-minded about what happens after death. I'd like to believe in an after-life of sorts.
  More importantly I am still learning and absorbing information and open to ideas.

  do we,can we,make time for ourselves?.

  many of us exiting the wts were limited and restricted regarding our free time/vacation activities.most activities didn't meet with wts approval for various 'reasons'.

  Part II of Survey! Please Respond Again.Thank's.

  the first survey i asked how you were brought into the non-truth.

  my next survey is along the same line, however what i would like to find out is on the average how many hours you spent in the field service and were you ever able to bring anyone into the non-truth via field service or via incidental witnessing.. and how long you were associated with the borg?.

  20years associated.
  Only brought 1 person in who may or may not have stayed. Had studies that came in but can't say I brought them in. Thankfully.
  60 hrs a month for about 2 or 3 years. Rest of the time about 15hrs apart from the final year when it trailed off to a couple a month. I wouldn't like to try and calculate an average from that.

  My hubby's Turkish and his English spelling is terrible. He picks spoken language up parrot-like though and I have had loads of laughs over the years at the things he suddenly says totally inappropriately.
  Once he decided to put a new greeting on our answering machine and I called home from work to hear him say after introducing himself 'so if you want massage please speak now'. Well I did put in an order but I'm still waiting lol

  I didn't find your question at all offensive. What you said made sense to me.
  Personally I prefer to believe in God and I think all mankind have an in-built spiritual need that was put there for a reason. Natives in distant parts of the globe worship the sun or stars or a carved pole because they recognise an urge to thank, pray to and give reverence to something. They didn't find God in a book of rules. Teach them to be good christians and they go to war with a neighbouring tribe who happened to be discovered by a moslem.
  Religion is just another excuse for starting a fight.
  Somehow we have lost our true connection with God and the key in my opinion is simplicity. Strip away the hype and the culture of 'my God's bigger than your God' and just try and find a way back to him out of your own heart and spiritual instinct.
  We should all care. But it is our choice whether we believe or not.

  Now That I've Joined, I wish That I Hadn't

  any one here get that sinking feeling when you were an active jw?

  i'm not talking about the point where we developed doubts about the borg, but just the shear weight of responsibility on your shoulders to uphold "god's kingdom" ala wts.. the topic of doing all you can was brought up frequently.

  some would try to sooth by saying "as long as you're doing your best, jehovah will accept you.

  One thing I absolutely hated was the cross-questioning you got off everybody after you missed a meeting. Sometimes you got phone-calls. They couldn't even wait till the next meeting.
  I used to get so defensive.I objected to answering to all and sundry for what essentially was between me and Jehovah.
  Only illness was an acceptable reason.
  Our congregation had it's public talk etc Sunday afternoons. That meant you could never go away all through the summer. Even on proper holidays you were expected to seek out the KH. For crying out loud we once attended a meeting in Spain that we couldn't understand one word of!
  Sometimes I wish I could go back just to stand up for myself and show them how much unnecessary stress they give people.
  Then again maybe not...

  Hey is this like when teams are being picked for sport and you're the last one to be picked?

  As for naming names I think I'm still too new to do that. I like diversity so I read almost everything I have time to. I have been moved to tears and wept with joy. I've laughed the roof off and blown my top!! Most of all I have found great info and had the experience of discussing it and hearing a range of opinions that in some cases has actually altered mine
  So I thank everyone for doing what they do and for their support when I have ventured into the posters arena. Hope I haven't offended anyone as I know I got a bit crude last time ( and I STILL keep remembering embarrassing incidents! I must hold the world record)

  The REAL reason JW's don't give parties....

  i posted this in response to patio's thread called jw kids, but thought i'd post it here for any who hadn't read that thread.. i'd like to share an experience that i haven't shared so far (don't worry there's lots more, lol!).

  when i was 24, i decided that the young people had no one to hang out with.

  i decided to host a rollerskating party at the rollerskating rink in my hometown.

  I must get a scanner!!!I love researching on the WT cd-rom and would've posted the article for you.
  I wish we had someone like you when I was a Witness youth. We sometimes had small gatherings but something on a larger scale would've been excellent for making new friends. It makes a difference meeting people in their casuals and acting like everyday peeps instead of stuffed shirts.
  There were a lot of do's and don'ts. We used to travel to a nearish city to iceskate and meet up with Witnesses from all over. That dried up but I dunno if it was dissapproved. Too long ago to remember (I'm so old!)
  For years the highlight of our social calendar was barn dancing where many romances blossomed. Also bowling was another ok activity.
  Of course these were a bit boring really which lead to some of us having rather wild parties when we lived in flats.
  This is diversing from kiddies activities but I was wondering if all those endless restrictions and rules and no-nos drove us to being a bit over the top later.
  Even JW's have to live their lives! Working on the PLEASURE/PAIN principle they should be having a hell of a lot of fun lol.

  One brilliant thing about this forum is you can get stuff off your chest ( anger, pain, sadness,) and others are on your wavelenth. You can also have fun and joke around to lighten the mood.
  Loads of information as well and experiences to learn from.
  The important thing is although they may condemn the JW organisation, the so-called apostates in here would never condemn YOU as a person in or out.
  Unfortunately only your fellow JW's do that.

  it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

  for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

  Dunno if she can be truly called a door-to-door case as she had been witnessed to by her cousins.
