Hi all....wow
by -Tank inhello folks.
i posted one topic in the "relationships" section of this board, but just wanted to say a few words, and introduce myself, i am tank.
i was just curious, this is a jw board, i was expecting to find 80% of the members, or posts, to be of diehard, hardcore jw's, trying to preach there beliefs or there views, but yet, almost every thread i read has to do with someone leaving, already left, or a story of when they left, nonetheless, all the stories lead away from the jw religion.

Did anyone else know, before they got into it, or were thinking about about getting into it, that they had this incredible hold on there members?
Nope! I was fooled into it at the age of 15! Who would want to get into it if they know that their life will be controlled by that damned borg?
No, it's not just having to attend 1 or 2 meetings per week and reading a few scriptures a day once you are in.
You need to :
1) Give up your ability to think, reason and question. You will be disfellowshipped if you dare to question them.
If you have a JW wife after u are DF'd, it will be hell for u for the rest of your life.2) You cannot celebrate birthdays, christmas, etc.. No singing of national anthem, no saluting of flag, no military service.
3) you need to minimise your association with your worldly colleagues, friends and relatives.
4) you need to be their literature salesman
AND ...
even after you have left them for 2 whole years, you may still be unable to sleep. You may need to jump out of bed in the middle of the night and vent your frustration in JWD like what I did...

When YOU went out in the field service.....
by JH inwhen you used to go in the field service, did you go out to have 2 more hours on your report, or did you really want to save somebody's life by preaching a message of salvation ?

I don't need to pray for nobody at home here in singapore. On sunday mornings, out of 10 doors we knocked, 8 were either not home, still sleeping or simply refuse to open the door. For the 2 doors with someone home, witnessing last for barely a few seconds.
"Good morning, we are bible students..." (jw are banned .. they call themselves bible sutdents here)
" we are buddhist/muslim/hindus ! " and door was banged shut!
Very unfertile ground. 3 years in it and I couldn't find a bible study myself. I somehow managed to get 2 of my classmates to study with me...and our bible study is interesting...15 mins study, 45 min or more talking about other things, joking and laughing. So there it is. Monthly report 8 h, 2 bs and 1 or 2 RVs...
My FS performance scored a "F" :2 bible studies became baptized witnesses. But when I left, they oso followed me...

Why the Hate???
by Confession inoften a person asks of ex-jws, "why the hate?
it's possible that they've seen examples of how some can be opportunistic in their finding fault of people or groups.
some people hate walmart.

yes , confession, a great post.
My situation is entirely different from many posters here. My family members are non-believers. Leaving the borg is a relief for me. I am free to do whatever I want. I am happy to be out and there is no cause for me to hate or to be frustrated with the wts. And when I first came to JWD, I could not understand the hatred or frustration of many here .
But 3 wks here now, after reading the ordeals that so many of you went thrru after leaving the borg and learning so many things that is happening behind the WTS, I begin to understand.
Your post summarises very well what I have found out...

Is Smoking the practice of Spiritism?
by freedomfighter inhi guys,.
i was raised as a jw and was baptised when i was 16. i am now 35 and have finally realised that "the truth" is actually the opposite.. my family has a long history of mental illness and i am "lucky" to only suffer deppression and panic attacks.i believe what i was taught as truth has effected me adversely.
e.g " you won't have to go to school son, armageddon will be here before then.

Freedom, a warm welcome for you!
I found out some new things about the borg from your post :
when you go to the elders for help and when they decide to disfellowship you
what??? A person must be sorry for wat he has done and decided to seek help from the elders
and they DF'ed him???" Just because you are now out doesn't give you licence to do what you like"
We are already out. Why do they want to bother whether we place our cock pointing up or pointing
down???Now on spiritism and smoking...
I practice spiritism and oso smoke.
Many of my smokers friends do not practising spiritism.
My dad has been practicing spiritism for the past 20-30 yrs. But he does not smoke!
Anybody has that awake article on smoking and spiritism? Can scan and pm it to me??????

WELCOME cooler to JWD!
I am also new here. Just about 3 weeks.
For the past two years since I left the org, I did not dare to visit xjw sites. My inner voice shouted
"apostates!" whenever I come across xjw sites and I will quickly leave. It was only 3 weeks ago that I desperately needed help and advice that I forced myself to post at xjw forum.
I have no one else to turn to. Non believers will not understand my worry. I know what the JW will say. In
fact it is because of their teaching that I was so worried. I was in a dilemma. I have no one else to turn to other than xjws.Since then, I stayed. For barely 3 weeks, I have found out so much about the wt that I have not known before.
I am from a Asian country where jw is being banned. Only a few hundred witnesses in a population of 3 mil.
We met only in small groups of about 10 at witnesses home. So I know very little about their shunning practices.
What a shock when I learned from the forums here about how wives shunning husbands, parents shunning children etc...
All the while I tot that family members just won't discuss spiritual things with DF'ed members. I didn't know
they were shunned for everything. I tot that their physical relationships can still be normal. Family
outings will still be together. It just does not seem right to me when I find out otherwise. The WT is breaking up families!Just only yesterday, I read a post that even babies are being shunned!!!What the heck !
They only emphasized on "remove the wicked one", "treat him like tax collector" but they forgot what Paul also said:
"keep this one marked, stop associating with him, that he may become ashamed. 15 And yet do not be consider
ing him as an enemy, but continue admonishing him as a brother.” -2 Thess 3:14The WT only quotes scriptures that support their teachings but ignore those that doesn't.
Cooler, stay around here and I am sure u will find out many things that the WTS doesn't want u to know...

On Armageddon....
by Sunspot insince leaving the wts i have come to appreciate that our lives need not be lived while centered around the "coming destruction" or that all our goals should be focused on this thinking 24/7.
when standing back and getting away from the stringent and narrow-minded views of the men of the wts.....and see what jesus actually said on this topic....we are in for a surprise.. when you read the bibles that show his words in red.....and take the time to go through and only read those....it is apparent that his focus was not directed on this "fearful coming destruction", but primarily on showing that he is the truth and the life, and that his followers are to be compassionate, kind and helpful in whatever ways they can.
we have only to look at the "two laws" and the "golden rule" he preached, to get an idea of what he lived and what he died to accomplish.

how freeing it is to now see these things (especially Armageddon) through different eyes of faith and not fear.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - matt 11:30
It seems like the JWs are worshipping God not out of love for him but rather out of fear of death at armag.

I remember after my first study with a jw, I still don't know how to pray to the bible god.I was only 15 yo and
I needed money to go out with my friends that weekend.u know what I do? I placed the bible verticle on my desk. Light 3 joss-sticks in front of it and pray to the bible god to
help strike the lottery. I even promised to buy a chicken for him if I really strike the lottery! I was
studying the bible with jw. so i am a jw....but the bible god didn't answer my prayer...so no chicken for him!
Now I am also in need of money, maybe I should try again. Jesus say 'keep on asking...keep on knocking...'
