  the "documentary hypothesis", now almost universally accepted, posits that the "five books of moses" were in fact written by at least four people as late as the return from exile.

  The book "Who Wrote The Bible?" by Richard Friedman is the best single source I've found for explaining the origins of the Torah.

  The "Documentary Hypothesis", now almost universally accepted, posits that the "five books of Moses" were in fact written by at least four people as late as the return from exile. Friedman explains and illustrates this explanation in a readable, even entertaining, yet still precise, fashion.

  Has anyone here done real research on the Documentary Hypothesis and yet found it unconvincing? If so, why?

  Is WTBTS Preparing To Downsize?

  i am told that plans for a new bethel in milton keynes have been scrapped.. rumours are circulating amongst the uk witnesses that this decision has been taken because armageddon is just around the corner following the incidents at the wtc.. one wonders as to whether or not future downsizing might be due to an expected backlash and reduction in adherents following the exposure of the societies ngo membership of the united nations, rather than the rather lame and oft repeated armageddon is just around the corner sketch.. i wonder.. englishman.. nostalgia isn't what it used to be....

  Hillary, I think you hit the real reason. We've seen how the lawyers are getting more influence recently. Their financial warnings are probably leading to a general belt-tightening.

  well, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.

  so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.

  they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.

  question to throw out to anyone who cares to answer.. what do jw's believe happens when they die.

  jon always told me that when life was over, that was it, no heaven no hell just nothingness.. is that what jw's really believe?

  he didn't like to talk about it with me because he thought it would upset me.. thanks for any input,.

  Festering Helplessness

  .. my wife is just preparing to be baptized this weekend.

  i have tried to dissuade her numerous times, even preparing a logical argument that i thought was indisputable.

  Media Sensationalizes Nukes vs Terrorists

  listening to cnn and other news outlets, i find that the media pundits are making a big deal out of nuke plants vs terrorists.

  in one case on cnn they are either illinformed or dishonest.. the claim was made this morning that nuke plant containments have never been tested for an airplane crashing into them.

  this is false.. i posted on this topic two or three weeks ago.

  what is the one thing that the witlesses have and rely one?.

  isn't it the 'fellowship' and the 'love'... a 'uniting bond of unity' (puke).. what if they didn't have it??.

  i mean, what if, when someone visited a hall for the first time, they weren't welcomed with open arms and 'love-bombed' / conned into their clutches.

  Anybody can lie or deceive themselves about what it means to be "doing well" or "being happy". So that's not going to help much, IMO.

  But I really like the Fifth Column idea. Really.
