8Aussies - Need help, getting the news over here

i have viewed the recent airings on both bbc panorama and dateline, and was extremely disturbed and tearful from the child abuse cases.
i must add also, that although i had heard alot about the child abuse, it was extremely shocking to have it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, and to also watch the gb's cowardly response to the case.. i know this will make a huge impact on my jw freinds, and am very keen to get the story over here on perhaps "60 minutes" being the most relevant show.

I think it is great you want to share the info with your JW friends, but the fact of the matter is--even if it did show over there they wouldn't watch it. There are two main reasons--1. they see it as apostate, someone who lies about it and only wants to hurt the org. 2. They have the fear of being disfellowshipped---cast out---considered dead to all they have loved, yes that includes family also. So, I don't think it being aired over there would make any difference. If they wanted to know they would look at the info on the net.
Maybe you can try printing the transcripts of the stories that you have seen on the net, and just don't tell them where you got the info untill afterwards. Only a suggestion. Love Jesika Thoman Dallas,Tx

The society is know for their way with words. This was written even before Dateline in the US came out. It didn't air untill the last wk in May. The thing is that anyone who would have known about the way the policy was carried out are those who it hurt. Now that they are speaking out they are all considered apostates, so the active -faithful(to the org) won't listen and call them liars. The society knew about Dateline coming out about a month before it aired, giving them plenty of time to word it the way they saw fit. Since the issue has never really had this much focus from so many at once, the JW's don't really know what the policy was and how it was carried out. Mexico/Malawi $$$$$?
by OUTLAW inanyone who was a dub many years ago remembers people dying in malawi for the wbts.in malawi,dubs were encouraged not to have anything to do with the government and many were murdered..in mexico,it was profitable for wbts to encourage the people to do what the people in malawi were not allowed to.
i have 2 questions: was there a monatary or political gain in it for wbts?.if those people didn`t die for profit of some sort for wbts,what did they die for?.for one,i know dead dubs sell magazines,the profits from that probably helped wbts acquire property in mexico...outlaw

When I read about this in Ray's book I was sick, and had to put the book down to stomach what I had just read. I believe since the GB weren't the ones getting beaten and raped it was of little concern to them. Other than maintaining their stand and keeping the REAL truth of the matter a secret to everyone else, no telling why they did it. It is a horrible way to exercise power and doctrine over people's lives. Jesika

The JW's can say what they want. The more people who come forward to tell their stories and are willing to be in the media's eye can not be ignored. The world is not like the borg and they will do research or talk about this with others and find out who is telling the truth and who is lying. I hope this will inspire more to come forward all over the world. If the elders are willing to take the fall, then fine. The Society will have to take responsibility if we demand it and give them no other place to hide. Jesika

James Barratt is led away to begin his sentence
An elder in the Jehovah's Witness church has been jailed for child abuse.
James Barratt , 45, of , Warwickshire, a married man with two children, was found guilty of indecently assaulting two teenagers entrusted to him for Bible studies and counseling. The court heard that Barratt , a church elder, had "systematically" abused two former members of his congregation over a 10-year period. Warwick Crown Court heard that Barratt , a trusted friend of the boys' families, had used Bible lessons and counselling sessions as an opportunity to indecently assault the teenagers.

Throughout the four-day trial Barratt maintained that he had tried to be a father figure to the boys. Sentencing him, Judge James Pike said he had been entrusted with vulnerable young people. He was, he said, an arch-hypocrite. Barratt was jailed for two years with 12 months suspended. He will be put on the sex offenders' register for 10 years. Detective Inspector Jim Hill of Warwickshire Police: "I consider him to be an extremely dangerous individual. His approach to the victims was via the parents.

Flyers put on car windscreens @ conventions
by Nowfree inhas anyone thought of putting leaflets on car windscreens at the district conventions that are coming up?.
all good jws should be at the convention - if they are using public/football ground car parks, then it will be easy to target their vehicles and put a leaflet on them.

I think the best thing is to keep the media involved as much as possible. If you protest outside let your local news people know when, and why. Bring run off copies of the WT stand on their policy and have people telling why they are so adimit about their stand.
