i'm hoping you all can help.. an active jehovah's witness joined us in chat tonight and was dismayed that this site slams witnesses for trying to follow the bible in matters such as disfellowshipping.
this chatter feels that many people here complain about the society's policies without offering evidence that the policies are without scriptural backing.. i must be at work very early monday morning, so i could not stay in chat as long as i wished.
i told the chatter i would start this thread so that s/he could gather information and opinions from several sources.. in chat i was trying to present a point that i remembered from in search of christian freedom, about how disfellowshipping was meant to be a personal choice, not a decision forced on the congregation by a small committee.
What You Know actually means is that he has no sound rebuttal for your argument.
i am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

on shunning.. the watchtower basically points to two reasons to shun people:.
1) it will make the wrongdoer think about their course of life and help them to come back to "the truth".. 2) it will protect your faith in jehovah and will keep you from being stumbled.. i think there are really 2 other reasons.. 1) fear of being shunned themselves for associating with you.. 2) to punish you for not thinking or being like them anymore.
kind of a revenge thing.

You are never going to find a place with complete objectivity because the very nature of judgement rests on the head of one or more individuals who by nature have their own opinion of any given subject matter.
You need to remember that we are all humans, not members of a collective conscience that march along in unity of thought. It will never happen to YOUR liking unless everyone followed YOU.
Of course, this is ALL my opinion.

i would guess they may have only done this because of the coverage in the uk national newspaper which they know they have to counter.

Like I said, your attacks or bashing is virtually (98%) against one entity, the WTBS. You could care less about other entities, that do the same thing.
According to that one entity, they are THE entity represented by God, constantly fueling that idea into it's adherent's heads. What can you really expect from folks who have been through such psychological trauma? OF COURSE they are going to exclusively BASH the "society" as a unit just as they were taught to exclusively BASH everyone else as a unit.
its easy too criticize a religion.any person can do that.trash talking isnt accepted that well amongst the majority of people.why not find something better too offer people.now that would be a better thing too do.this board will probably fizzle out after a while.
