LOL! Funny and yet, sad at the same time. Although this is the 1st I have heard of JW's using a funeral registry for recruitment purposes, I am not surprised. They normally inplement the sales pitch towards the end of the eulogy.

Using funerals to recruit members
by keyser soze ini heard a somewhat amusing story from a co-worker over lunch.
he said he was at a funeral for a jw relative, and they had a registry for guests to sign.
his wife signed the registry, and included their home address.

Do you think you are forever damaged by the Watchtower??
by noni1974 ini've been out since 1998 so i've had time to learn how to be normal.
i've had time to get over the pain and hurt of shunning by those who claimed to love me.
i really can't blame them because my mom was born in too.

I believe that there will be some residual affects from it, but I also believe in the saying, "What does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Thanks for a good post. I always looked forward to the weekends, but never cared about starting it off in the preaching work. I always hated going door to door, disturbing someone's time preaching some half-assed doom and gloom message I had a hard time accepting. However, it was drummed into my thinking that Jehovah will bless your weekends by engaging in his work first. Therefore, I only allowed myself a 2 hour maximum for the weekend service and it was only for the morning portions.
Now, my weekends are more meaningful to me and I have no problem filling it in with more exciting things.

Who do you consider as a friend ??
by troubled mind inwhen we were witnesses every other witness was our "friend" ,but more often than not they were just aquantinces involved in the same religion as we were .
at the time i felt i would have given my life for others in my hall .
i tried very hard to be a good friend to others by showing personal interest in their lives and offering encouragement or help when they needed it ,but i never really felt a real connection with most .. i always wanted to have a friend and be the type of friend that could just stop by to shoot the breeze at anytime and feel welcome .

Caligula1,
I only have transient acquaintences in my life. It would be nice to have a good friend or two, but find that many do not invest the time and energy in wanting to build a friendship. Therefore, I just take it as it is for the time being.

People come and go and I appreciate whatever time they were willing to share with me during those stages.

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

August of 2009 was the end for me. I was involved in 1994, baptised 1995. No more grape flavored kool-aid for me.

I 2nd OTWO's advice. It boils down to how much of this are you willing to put up with. And in your delicate state of having a baby, you do not need this stress.

Did you feel alone amongst the great crowd of JW's?
by highdose inlike there you were at an assembly maybe, everyone seems to be swarming with freinds, and you are the one left out unwanted and made to feel like you don't belong there?.
