Apostates at assemblies...
by TheApostleAK inanyone here got any stories about apostates going on the rampage at any meetings, assemblies, conventions.. i haven't seen any but a young witness told me that his previous cong.
called the police to a meeting cos a df person went apesh*t once.. also, all aussie jw's should know about the riot at a glenelg convention in adelaide in the 1940's where apostates rushed to the sound equipment and some jw stood in there way and kinghit one of them.
(see 1983 yearbook).. from the apostle ak

I once picketed a convention. I suppose by the borg's definition I am an apostate.
I wouldn't call my peaceful picketing on the public sidewalk a rampage. However, I would call the borg's attempts at squelching freedom of expression on public grounds reprehensible.
Hmmm...
Funny thing is, while all the borg filed out with looks of dismay and anger towards me, I was having a pleasant conversation with an interested nineteen year old.Ya gotta love it!

Organised Religion
by aud8 inif none of you believe in organised religion then who is the "faithful and discreet slave" mentioned in the bible?

aud8,
Organized religion. Hmmm.
You seem to be assuming that not believing in the "JW organization" is equivalent to not believing in any organized religion. Is that a correct assessment of your standing? I hope it is not.
Belief in any organization is dangerous. BUT, belief in CHRIST and expressing that belief IN an organization is wholly different.
So, you think God is a God of organization? And in just what one form of earthly organization do you think He's the CEO? The Watchtower?
I think not!No, God sets up residence in the hearts of believers, NOT in organizations. Look it up and check Him out.
Remember aud8, just because the Watchtower claims to be God's organization doesn't make it so. Claims do not equal truth. (I could claim to be Christ but that statement wouldn't make me Christ.)
Hmmm...

You handled it quite well. Your explaination was the best I've heard in a long time. If they didn't get it--that's their problem. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink."

Request for Opinions
by patio34 ini requested that my sons (both jws) come to my home for a family meeting today.
had nothing to do with religion.
both of them know i don't go to meetings and that i have intellectual disagreement with wtbs.. son #2 said that before we begin the meeting, he would like to offer up prayer.

Accepted 66 books of Canon
by SharonUT inconsidering an apostacy that was well into swing by 100ad, and worse yet by the time the nicene council was held in 325ad... how are jehovah's witnesses sure about the basically protestant canon they initially accepted which was canonized about 376ad at earlist and still even then, many christians didn't agree upon that and still don't today!
i could go into more detail if desired... but upon what basis to jw's accept this canon from an apostate generation?
how do they know that other books such as the book of enoch originally held to be scripture and quoted frequently in mark or the shepherd of hermes should not be included as inspired?

Maybe they ought to return to the AV. (Much better than the NWT.)

When things started to "fall off"
by comment ini was thinking about this in several areas today.. 1) district conventions and house-to-house work.
if you were a witness for a long time, you probably remember a time when going to the conventions seemed perfectly "normal" to you: it was absolutely "the thing" to sit in a sports arena all day listening to bible talks and counsel from men in suits.. but at some point, did you ever start to feel like you were participating in a cultural relic, so to speak?.
as in, "here it is, the 1990's, and the society is still using fundamentally the same old format they've been using all century long.

Unfortunately, there are alot of dubs who are lifers. (Like my folks.)
It will take an a-bomb to get them out.
I think they would be affected emotionally to the nth degree. I only hope they can withstand the temporary turmoil.
All of us with loved ones in the borg wish the same. (A safe exit for them.) -
