Children - Your experiences of being raised a JW

yes, it's my favourite subject.

in fact, it fascinates me.

i am also confident that we can learn a lot from peoples experiences & that perhaps even a few families may avoid repeating the same tragic mistakes made by the ill-advised parents of children raised in the jehovah's witness religion.. as some of you will be aware i have had a struggle in the past to free my children of the criminal effects of wts doctrine on the minds of my infant children.

In the 1950's and early 60's boxing was still promoted at school and I was pretty good at it.

In Junior High school in the 70's when we were about to learn Wrestling in Gym class, one of our Elders came to the school to explain to our gym teacher why JW kids, as servants of God, didn't need to learn how to fight. Talk about embarrasing. We had to stand on the sidelines of the wrestling mats and watch everyone else learning the moves. At least during the Holidays we could be out of sight in the library.

Eidetic/Photographic Memory: your "view," please

if you have merely a good memory, or truly an eidetic memory, do you literally see [inside your head] every page and every word of a book you've read?.

This is the only experience I can think of that relates to this subject

When I was four and couldn't yet read, we lived in a house that had the name of the original owner and the house number written in the concrete walkway in front of the house.

When I was a teen, my parents were talking about this house as it was first one they bought in this country. Much to their suprise, I happened to mention the name of the original owners and the house number. They couldn't understand how I could know this since I was so little when we lived there. I explained to them that for some reason, I have "photograph" in my head of this sidewalk to this day and I can simply read the name and number off that photograph at will .

Every publisher must pay for assembly costs???

the po in my mom's congregation told them that at the next 1-day-assembly it will be the responsibility of every publisher to put 3 in the box towards the running costs at the assembly hall.

The only thing I fault them for over the matter of money/contrubutions, is that the average publisher isn't privy to the details of how funds are distributed. These things should be common knowledge and readily available to anyone who wants them. There seems to be a shroud of mystery around the details and an expectation that one should just trust everything is being handled. Even if one knew who to ask about these matters, they would likley be though of as "unsheeplike" for even asking.

Ok, I want to get opinions on this!

3 years ago i was in a very deep depression.. i had recently gotten diagnosed with bipolar disorder 2 as well as a bad case of ptsd.. i was on the verge of suicide, i thought about it every day, every hour it seemed.. then something extraordinary happened.. it was the middle of the night, 2am.

i had been having bouts of insomnia for months now and was up very late.. just for the hell of it, i googled my full name: alex strait.. i found a recent news article that came up.. turns out just a few weeks earlier a 23 year old man named alex strait had been found in a park after he committed suicide.. that was pretty freaky.. the next day i get an email from someone.. turns out his fiance found my website (i am a web developer by trade) that gave a description of my ailment and journey (through random googleing).

she emailed me through my website and asked if it was her alex strait that had killed himself.

jews may not eat any blood, so all meats need to be salted and soaked in a special way to clear all blood.

Blood transfusion is not the same as "eating" blood. If you were starving, would a blood transfusion save you from dying or even ward off malnutrition?

I know what you are saying here, but they would tell you ( Doctors that they are) that if you were starving and were fed nutrients intaveniously,it would be the same as if you had eaten. So they feel that taking a blood transfusion is the same as eating blood.

A watchtower , an awake, and a tract

just got left at my door.

i was only gone 20 minutes taking my daughter to school.

either it was the jw woman who stopped by a couple of days ago (i was nice to her but declined the mags she offered) or it was my mother who i'm currently keeping at arm's length (yeah she's still blocked from calling me).

WT Society Has to be Forced by Courts to Reveal Hidden Child Abuses

in one of the new pieces of information in the new elders manual - section 5:18 - it shows how elders are instructed to keep all judicial committee information private from media or attorneys.

keeping in mind how secretive the wt society has been in hiding child abuse within the jehovah's witnesses notice these instructions to elders now.. it states, " if a member of the media or an attorney representing the accused ( or possibly victims ) contacts the elders , they should not give him any information about the case or verify there is a jc.

rather, they should give the following explanation, " the spiritual and physical welfare of jehovah's witnesses is of paramount concern to the elders, who have been appointed to " shepherd the flock ".

Would'nt any claim made by the Society, of wanting to preserve confidentiality be disputable once an announcement was made to the congregation about an individual after speaking confidentialy to the Elders ? A Doctor, Psychologist or Preist would never make a public announcement about anyone who consulted them unless there is was a legally valid reason to do so -- to prevent harm, for instance to a child, and old person or some identifiable third party.

then i cant help but come to the conclusion that everyone who died (like 99.999% of humanity at the time) was doomed from the start.. if god directed noah to build a flotation device with very specific parameters, god must have known exactly how many people, animal species, plant etc, would be in it.. what if people actually listened to noah and thousands upon thousands turned up waiting to enter the ark?

god must have known that only so many people will listen and obey instructions.. no to mention that noahs message didnt really reach that many people.

at that time how many people could have heard it?

This simply underscores how lousy a God Jehovah really is--as if he needs any more embarrassment.

I like to think that if there is a God, (and I hope there is) he has been terribly misunderstood, portrayed and represented by Religion and humans in general. Somehow I feel that we will one day all marvel at how wrong we have been.

Until then I will do my best to lead a decent life, help those that I can. I'll focus on the "big chunks" and take a wait and see attitude on all thedetails that the religious try to enforce. How can anyone really go from door to door and claim they have all the answers based upon information ( biblical) which is largely unprovable and fraught with what appear to be glaring inconsistencies ? (ie. Noah's Ark)

The ark having been too small to carry any more repentant humans if there happened to have been more, is much like the inevitability of Jesus death. Jesus was sent to die for mankinds sins and whether or not people listened to him and repented, he would have had to die anyway in order to "buy back" the life that Adam and Eve lost for us. Why was it such a shock that he died since it was all planned? The trubulation and Armegedon would have to come and Satan and the demons would have to be thrown out of heaven. The thousand year reign would have to happen...it was all fortold in the beginning.
