Patterson New York JW Tourist Destination
by Pete Zahut ini saw a photo on facebook of a jw couple i know, apparently you can now get your photo taken with the stars of the jw animated children's videos, at patterson.
i've tried to share it here but it isn't showing up.. basically, you stand in different cartoon scenes of the door to door activity, holding a bookbag and the hand of one of the children's characters from the viedo.
the houses are pastel colored, the cartoon brothers are wearing brightly colored shirts and ties , no jackets.

Now predicting increase of anointed?
by jgnat ini came across this nugget in the may 2014 issue:.
"are you moving ahead with jehovah's organization".
....at one time, the anointed remnant were like the little one, but their number grew as other spiritual israelites were brought into gods organization.

I ran across a rumor on the Topix forum for JWs last week that stated some Bethelite whispered that this summer's DC would announce NuLite TM that 144,000 is a symbolic number. Maybe that's why there are so many video tie-ins this year?
Again, just pure speculation based on the oh-so-reliable internet rumor mill.

Jehovah's Witnesses Say They Are The Most Educated In The World. How Would You Prove Otherwise?
by minimus inthey claim their schools, literature and teaching are far more superior than any "worldly" education.
how would you counter that belief?.

You could always ask them:
"Where was your:
- Primary care doctor
- Eye doctor
- Dentist
- Accountant
- Lawyer
- Financial Advisor
educated?"
It would be surprising if JWs made up any of the roles on that list. Then ask them:
"If JWs are the most/best educated in the world, why don't you have JWs perform all those duties for you instead?"

It would make it exponentially harder to flip the properties every few decades.
Besides, think of the awkward questioning that JWs go through just to get married at the Hall...can you imagine the vetting process if you wanted to be buried there??? What would happen if, after they buried you in the KH graveyard, they discovered you'd committed "hidden wrongdoing" before you died? Would they make your family dig you up and move you someplace else??
Although this does make me think of "The Launching Pad" at Wallkill where quite a few of the anointed Bethel heavies are buried.

Most Annoying Things That Happen At JW Meetings
by LittleSister intoday i was remembering how angry i used to get at the meetings and all the little irritations that in the end would just make my blood boil these included:.
prayers that go on foreverstudy or wt conductors still taking comments when its clear that the point has been covered 20 times alreadymeetings over running by more than 5 minsmy favourite was this one elder who would play guess the point i am thinking of.
he would keep rephrasing the question from the wt until someone would bring up the point he was thinking of.

You've all put together a pretty comprehensive list. I'll just add these few:
1. When someone answers and comments on the content of the (non-photo) illustration as if it were a photograph of the actual event taking place. (e.g., "You can see by the expression on Paul's face, how upset he really is at Barnabas!" or "Notice how organized Noah kept his worksite. It wasn't messy like you see at worldy construction projects, it's neat or organized like we see at our Quick Builds. We should be greatful to have an example like his to follow.")
2. I used to have a book study conductor who did the following...."Well that concludes the study for tonight. Since we finished a few minutes early, let's open our Bibles to this week's Bible reading and see how far we can get before 8:00. We'll go around the room and take turns by verse. Let's start to my left; Br. R_O?"
3. When it's an elder who has the first talk of the Service Meeting, and after making the few announcements he needs to, he says: "We have one additional announcement" and he leaves the stage to have Br. Judicial Committee walk up to the stage (along with the "stage" guy scampering behind to adjust the microphone). "Unrepentant Sinner is no long one of Jehovah's Witnesses." He then leaves the stage so that the other elder can come back up. Like a dog-and-pony show. Why can't the elder who is already up there just make the flippin' announcement?
4. Elders who spend the entire meeting walking the aisles and lobby handing out talk slips, KMs, etc., or who only ever sit in the back of the auditorium like some lifetime appointed "supervising attendant" (since the assigned attendants are back there too) even though their families are all sitting in the front.
5. Brothers that bring MONSTER briefcases to all the meetings (whether they're elders or not). What on earth do they have in there??? Even the most overworked corporate lawyers I know don't need to carry around cases that big anymore.

B.O.E. 13/01/14
by LucidChimp in"in minnesota, a man said to his visitors: "i saw you coming, so i went to get this book.
" he held up a bible teach book and said that when he was in prison, he stole the book.
when asked if he had read it, he replied that he was going to read it on the weekend while he was fishing.

He is going to have to stop that fishing for fun if he becomes a JW.
Actually, he'll WILL still be able to fish on the weekends...except he'll be "a fisher of men"!!!

"Can't even afford your own cell phone? Have we got a religion for you!"
............
Btw, that tract reminded me of a trailer I saw for this upcoming series at the theater the other day:
http://abc.go.com/shows/resurrection
The people of Arcadia, Missouri are forever changed when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to return...
JW's will LOVE it at first...until they realize that much of the plot of the show focuses on what a hard time people have emotionally once they get past the initial euphoria of welcoming back a long-dead loved one.

My take on the meeting yesterday.
by integ insome of you are aware of where i'm at with this whole thing.
i still occasionally go to meetings for family reasons but my attendance has been lack luster at best.
i'd say i go about once a month if that.. i empathize with those who are wary of taking the ultimate stand for fear of losing their family.

YOU PEOPLE JUST DISCRIBED EVERY RELIGION KNOWN TO MAN. What makes all religion any better?
Bingo. That's probably why many former JWs in this forum indentify more with agnostacisim or athiesm now more than with any one particular religion.

I posted this on a thread about a year ago...
.......................................
Forgetting the fact that the WTS would never put several thousand hormone infused 18-21 y.o. together in a dorm environment (DF-ings every week!), can you even imagine what a “Watchtower College” would be like? I imagine something along these lines….
Co-ed dorms? Not a chance.
Dorm rooms? No locks. And the RA (aka “The Inspector”) has free reign to root through your stuff.
Sports teams? No way. This avoids “bad association” with the other team on the field/court and avoids a competitive spirit.
Student Government? Don’t even ask the question.
Days off for holidays? Of course…the Memorial (and “Spring Break” would become “Spring ‘Pioneer during Memorial season’ Break”). No other holidays.
Alcohol on campus? Verboten!
Philosophy classes? Nope.
World Religions classes? Yep. And the textbook will be “Mankind’s Search for God”
Biology classes? Sort of. The reading materials would the Creator book and every Awake! article written on ants, whales, polar bears, etc….EVOLUTION IS A THEORY.
Music classes? Sure, but no rap or hard rock, no music that has religious roots, no music that is too sexual or mentions violence (good thing the “bees molested” line is gone out of the songbook!)
Constitutional Law? Definitely. Learn all about Minersville v. Gobitis, WT v. Village of Stratton, and every other JW US Supreme Court case. (Jimmy Swaggart Ministries v. Board of Equalization of CA will NOT be studied.) Level II classes learn how to fight blood transfusions in court.
GPA? Your service time would actually be factored into the equation. If it remains too low, you flunk out of school.
Commencement Speaker? A different member of the GB each year.
That’s off the top of my head. I’m sure you all have many more ideas…

Purged songs of the Watchtower
by LogCon inmy memory of singing the kingdom songs go back to when i was a child in the 1950's.
they still hold a place in my memory and my heart.
how can something that is so much a part of your childhood not stay embedded in your heart.?.

I found it surprising that they kept "Make the Truth Your Own" and "Make Sure of the More Important Things" in the newest songbook, given that the music for both was composed by Frank Kavelin (DNCall), someone who has since been disfellowshipped for apostacy:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/180013/1/DNCall-Unmasked-Part-3-of-5#.UuaBOvQo6IU
Turns out Frank did "make the truth [his] own"...just not in the way the Watchtower expected!
