"it's more of a sliding scale where you've got a 50% chance of misery to the point of being willing to endure divorce, another 30% of being generally unhappy, a 20% chance of feeling like you came out even on the deal, and 10% of being actually happy." The math seems a little off here. ;)

Marriage - Why bother?
by Spectrum inyet another friend's marriage has broken down(5th), this one i did not predict at all.
it came as a shock to me.
they got married after 10 years of living together so it's not like they didn't know each other.

To JW's elder's wives. Did your elder husband ever have an affair with JW?
by booker-t ini was very naive as a jw child and young adult growing up.
i thought jw were perfect especially jw elders.
i did whatever they said because i thought they were appointed by jehovah and jesus.

R6 says "nobody told me elders were perfect human beings." No. But unless you were raised in an alternate jw universe, they surely told you that they were 'appointed by God's Holy Spirit', and that you had to respect them/listen to them/obey them as God's reps or risk punishment for rebelliousness. It's pretty hard to respect Elder Dipwad when you know he is cheating on his wife. JWs have a fit when they hear Catholics use that old imperfection excuse when it comes to their priests, but they have no problem adopting it when it suits them.

My girlfriends cat is a stone-cold killer.
by Low-Key Lysmith ini don't know how to stop her.
we put a bell around her neck so that she makes noise when she moves around but she still manages to kill at least one sparrow or squirrel a day.
i was on the back porch smoking a cigar one afternoon and saw her jump up and catch a low-flying crow right out of the air.

I'm with you Low-key! That's why my kitties are indoor only. It's pretty much impossible to keep them indoors once they've had a taste of the wild side though. They would miss it terribly. I hope you can find a solution in one of the links provided. House cats can cause a great deal of damage to indigenous wildlife populations...after all, they were introduced to habitats they were never meant to be in by us crazy humans!

Whats the worst dish you ever served???
by Tez ini am a reasonable cook when i can be bothered (as paulj will hopefully confirm) but often resort to quick and easy methods, packet mixes, tins etc.. whereas my parner is a brilliant cook!!
leave him in the kitchen for a little while and he produces something from scratch that is delicious.
so today i decided to extend my culinary skills!

lol @ bg...I have friends who put their dish soap in one of those cute glass containers too. My friends and I have a themed potluck about once a month. We pick a country/region and everyone brings something from that area. The worst dish I've ever served was from Africa. It was Avocado soup...served cold. I think that about sums it up.

Thanks Canada!
by sixsixsixtynine inin halifax, nova scotia, three canadian navy ships, a coast guard vessel, several sea king helicopters and about 1,000 personnel were preparing to leave for louisiana.
the ships packed supplies for two to three months.. "canada was built by neighbors helping neighbors in times of crisis.
that doesn't apply just within our borders," prime minister paul martin said at the naval dockyard.. ____________________________________________________________________.

Are You a Blood Donor? (idea for campaign)
by Scully in.
on september 5, 2005, it will be the 2 year anniversary since bethany hughes died due to her refusal to take blood transfusions to treat her leukemia.. i was just thinking how wonderful it would be if everyone here who was an eligible blood donor to make a donation of blood and sign a card at the donation center stating that you gave blood in honour of bethany, or another jw child who died as a result of the wts's ban on blood transfusions.. my next eligiblity date as a blood donor isn't until october, but i will be making my donation in bethany's honour.

Great idea Scully! I just gave blood for the third time last month. Since the Canadian Blood Services comes to my work and sets up a clinic in the auditorium, it's very convenient for me. I've never seen a place where you could sign a card saying you were donating in anyone's honour though...maybe because it's a temporary clinic. The first two times I gave blood, I had no problems at all other than the fact that my blood pressure is low so it took a bit longer than most. Last time I gave blood I sat up at a 45 degree-ish angle to do it instead of lying down like the first two times. My blood came out much faster, but I would recommend to any new givers to lie down! I started to pass out but the wonderful nurses who were taking my blood came to my aid, laid me down, and put cold compresses on me until I came back around. I've never fainted before, so that was a new experience! It won't stop me from donating again though. I will just be sure to drink lots of water and eat a good meal first...and especially to lie down while giving blood!
