how do we know that the gb is closer now than they were 50 or a hundred years ago?

Could you explain (in context) where this was done? Are you saying that Peter demonstrated that errors and lies would be made from the wrong interpretations of the bible by his followers but then corrected later in front of non-believers who doubted their original words and therefore had reason to ridicule a falsity?

Hi Raj, it's really up to your girlfiend to decide if she wants to attend the wedding, it is a conscience matter but hearing about your relationship with her there probably won't be a problem. Why don't you just ask her?
these are some things i have been thinking about .
.. when i first found this site i registered immediately ... never was a "lurker" ... and i've been here about six months.. everyone was very warm welcoming and i felt at home very quickly ... very pleasant at the time, but as time has progressed i look back and feel a bit "love-bombed" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.. i have found that this site is a bit "cliquey" ... groups of posters frequent at similar times and enjoy their familiarity with each other and that's great ... but they also sometimes exhibit a coolness toward those outside their clique ... almost as if your 'post count' is the first thing by which you are "judged" ... much like a religion i used to belong to.
some posters develop a personal dislike for others and not only jump on their threads but even deliver the odd "slap" on unrelated threads to increase the discomfort for the object of their dislike ... not unlike a religion i once belonged to.. some posters even follow others around the board looking to counter or use snide or clever put downs at every opportunity ... a kind of intellectual "rivalry" that was common to those in that religion i used to belong to.. many posters like to use 'in-house' jargon and labels eg; "newbies" for those recently joined.

the above mentioned article caught my eye for a couple of reasons .
.. it is obvious to most observers that the children of active jw's provide a potential "large army" and in spite of the attrition rate of jw youths (around 2/3's i believe), it's a resource the borg are keen to maximise.
there tactics appear to be encouraging baptism at an ever younger age.
Amazing cunning in JW land. They go from Youths (being considered older teenagers in JW land) to young ones and then flow through to children.
The fact that they direct this at parents is appallying, making it their responsibility to direct their children to be baptized, when it is only ever the choice of the individual. The kids will feel pressured because they must obey their parents.
according to jw bible chronology , adam was created some 6000 years before 1975 & as armageddon hasn't arrived yet , he has been alone for all the equivalent years since then (despite the wtbts claiming that adam was only on his own for just a few weeks or months.).
luckily as a perfect man , he had no sexual desires.... .

my wife (no longer a jw) was at her mother's and sister house (who are jw's) and my wife told them that we have been investing in a little silver.
her sister then attacked her and said that it was "soooo worldly" that we have been buying silver and that you dont see jehovah witnesses going out buying silver........wtf!
this freak b**** who claims to be a faithful jehovah witness got a tattoo recently with her "faithful" mother's approval.
okay, so we finally decided that we are moving.
this is the plan we are contemplating:.
attend new congregation for one month (go to all the meeting with wt studied in brilliant colours etc.).
It was suggested occassionaly to me to return to the meetings in order to gain acceptance by half of my family who are JWs. Personally, I could not do it as this would mean lying and being deceitful, instead I just hoped the light would get brighter and their policy would change.
It wasn't me shunning them but them shunning me and if this was their stance then I didn't want my children to be involved in any of this but rather be well away from it. I also knew that I would have been subject to intense preaching and guilt attacks and this would affect my whole family. The peace and acceptance in our little unit has been much more valuable.
Please consider what you are doing and how this will affect your relationship with God if that is important to you.
the reason you are encouraged told to participate is because for the r&f it's the only thing they can take away when you've been naughty.
as it is deemed a 'privilege'.. although we are told that 'participation' is a demonstration of our love and faith.
therefore what they are saying is that they are allowed to restrict our demonstration of our love and faith.. interestingly 'cleaning the kh' is also deemed a privilege but you never hear of anyone with restrictions not being allowed to do so..
