  more specifically, could you tell me your thoughts on verses such as:.

  matthew 24:14. and could anyone give me some factual stats on the fact that jw's dont actually preach worldwide, or at least aren't recognized worldwide???.

  Unfortunately for the WTS 1914 can be thoroughly debunked as being a date of any prophetic significance (see The Gentile Times Revisited). Is it Good News to pronounce the end on a number of occasions and it not to come? Actually, it is for the 99.999% of humanity who thereby escape destruction.

  Also, after the Good News has been preached, how long before the "then the end will come" kicks in? Face the facts (!) the Society can tell you anything; you'll be 69 yrs old and still hanging on to the "hope" unless you act now. In 2086 the Society will say, "the word "then" does not imply immediacy. After the signs have been fulfilled the scriptures mention a waiting period - a season of goodwill- during which those of good heart have time to reflect on all that has gone before. How loving of Jehovah not to condemn "men of goodwill" simply because they did not recognize the signs immediately. But, that time of goodwill will not be extended indefinitely. Now is not the time to be toying with Jesus' words and stretching out, in our own imperfect minds, this "season of goodwill." Some have used these words to pursue careers in this system, even moving to the Lunar Colony. But Jehovah is all seeing. Did he not say, though they reach up to the stars, from thence I shall pluck them down?"

  It is dead simple to make bullshit up, fed up;

  Forget this JW stuff - do as Tina suggests, go to University and actually learn how to do research for yourself. Once you do that you will have no further problems with elders. Or, you can go through life
  asking "but what if the elders were right..." It's up to you. You have the link to Osarsif's site. All you need to establish is whether the Society tells lies. If it does, it isn't the truth. Simple as that.

  it's funny how 2 hours can make you question the doubts you've had for months.

  just got home from the hall after speaking with an elder... had a friendly chat about my doubts... finally culminating in my admitting that i didn't believe the discreet slave really existed, and that all my jw beliefs were non-existent.

  Imagine you were about to board a plane and the people at the gate stated "there's a bomb on the plane, so the flight is cancelled." Would you rush up to the desk and say, "Hey, there are no other flights to LA today. Where else can I go? I insist that I be allowed to board and that the plane set off, bomb or no bomb."

  Who says that answers exist? In any event, lies are not answers. But, fed up, take it steady - can you go to college? If so, do that. Time is on your side not the WTS's - if necessary just nod when appropriate an do your own thing.

  my currently devout jw sis told me how "proud" she was of the bro's at the wtc and how they fed , and comforted all those ppl...this told at the meetings i suppose.

  i think i read (was it here) that the doors of hq got locked up so outsiders could not come in..... did they really get involved" or was it enuff to make them look good?.

  If the Society has done that then they deserve credit. However, a person's or an organization's true character is often exposed in the face of sudden and unexpected events. If what Seeker says is true, and there is no reason to think it isn't, then the reaction of the Society and its issuance of two different versions of the same press release (for public relations effect) is not only disgusting, but quite in line with expectations.

  How can an organization, whose literature portrays truly disgusting images of tall buildings being destroyed while overjoyed witnesses escape, have had any real sympathy for the plight of those exiting Manhattan and the WTC area? Obviously, Seeker's account shows that, as an organization, they didn't. Perhaps they considered the refugees from Mhttn to be nothing but the firstfruits of Armageddon.

  On a quick look over it looks good. You say "joined the UN" when in fact they affiliated with the UN since only nations can join. Will look it over more carefully later.

  well, we had our radio show on sunday with the jehovah's witnesses and i don't think it went all that well, namely because it turned into a game of rhetoric.

  (if you listened, i would love to hear your thoughts).. .

  You should have told us who it was from the start! Mr. Stafford has quite a reputation for his " 'debating' `skills' ". Once he entered into a weeks long debate with a poster at H2O. He lost miserably, of course. His strategy is to obfuscate and to use big words; Mr. Clinton might ask 'what is your definition "is" ' whereas Mr. Stafford first asks "is "is" a word?" And then, what do we mean by "word" anyway. And when we ask "is `is'" which "is" are we wishing to define?

  He is good at one thing though, and that is praising himself. Tell me, at the interval did he rush off to a pay phone to call in, under an alias, to tell the listeners how good he was doing and how superb his debating skills were? Oh yes, and to announce that he had clearly won the debate andthat his opponent was inept. That's essentially what he did at H2O.

  Thanks for reminding me of one of life's sweeter moments on these boards. The day Mr. Stafford was found out in real time to be the charlatan that his writings show him to be.

  Logic of God escapes me

  in past posts i have placed god on trial by questioning two issues: 1) the issues in the graden of eden, and the severe punishment of the entire human race for a very minor act of eating fruit.

  2) god ordering the extermination of entire cities, including every last man, woman, child, baby, and even livestock.. results: the result on this forum have be mixed as expected, but showed a range from suport to tryuionmg top explain these events with reasoning, logic, or plausibilities.

  some felt that i might be losing my faith.

  I think the problem is quite analgous to the following problem; explain the motions of the planets and other bodies assuming Earth is at the center of the Universe and that the Universe rotates around Earth. At some point contradictions and inexplicable observations will manifest themselves.

  So, the confusion surrounding the questions you ask may be a result of a faulty premise.
