witnesses get indoctrinated with scriptures that refer.
to "the name of my father".
by means of these texts,.
Witnesses get indoctrinated with scriptures that refer
to "the name of my Father". By means of these texts,
they get convinced that evil men removed the
Divine name from the Bible, and replaced it with generic
terms of their own choosing. By this simple arguement,
would-be Witnesses are sent on a path that will lead
them to accept a crushingly narrow life and all the
depression that goes with it. They also become willing
to ignore every act of corruption or false doctrine,
simply because:
"What other organization uses God's name?"
You will hear this idea repeated again and again in
the near future as the Society's corruption is exposed.
It will become a kind of 'last ditch' defense by
worn-out defenders of the Watchtower.
Yet, a little meditation on the scriptures will reveal
that Jesus, Paul and early Christians made little use
of the name Jehovah (Yahweh)- prefering to use "Heavenly
Father" or "God the Father" (1 Cor.8:6) or simply give
the prominence to Jesus, as Lord (John 20:28).
Why would this be? Because their purpose was to build a
universal faith, not tied to the nationalism of Judaism.
Christians preached Christ as savior, not a conflict
contrasting Jehovah versus Zeus!
Think of it this way - everytime Jesus or Paul spoke
of "God" or "Heavenly Father", that was one more missed
opportunity to use the name "Jehovah". This really gets
dramatic when Jesus dies saying "Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani" (My God, my God, why have you forsaken me)
AND "Forgive them FATHER, for they know not what they
do" (Luke 23:34) AND "Father, into your hands I entrust
my spirit" (Luke 23:46)
Again and again, while dying for humanity, he avoids the
name "Jehovah" - and the Greek writers transliterated
his quotation, showing that a quote with 'Jehovah' in it COULD
HAVE BEEN RETAINED or that Jesus could have quoted something with
the name in it, at least as a 'clue'!
More than this, references to 'God's name' became
figurative, metaphorical - like "Stop, in the name
of the law!". As such, referring to "the name of my
Father" can mean not the literal name Jehovah or
Yahweh but refers to God's authority or reputation.
How do I know this? BECAUSE WATCHTOWER PUBLICATIONS
TOLD ME SO!
Read the Insight book page 12 under "Jehovah"
It quotes a professor of Hebrew as saying "otherwise
they would have perceived that by name must be meant
here not the two syllables which make up the word
Jehovah but the idea that it expresses...in the Psalms
10:16 'They that know thy name shall put their trust
in thee'; we see at once that to know Jehovah's name
is something very different from knowing the four letters
of which it is composed. It is to know by experience
that Jehovah really is what his name declare him to be" (heading 'Jehovah')
The Society knows about this figurative use of "the
name" but avoids openly acknowledging its usage because
it tends to 'blow up' the 'cult of Yahweh' they've got
going!
Look at John 17:26 "And I have made your name known to
them"[the disciples] Do you really think the twelve
apostles NEVER HEARD OF JEHOVAH???? Isn't it plain that
Jesus was refering to 'your name' metaphorically,
that God's authority and goodness were made manifest?
Finally, look at the famous words;
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name"
Isn't it plain that he didn't say "Jehovah, hallowed
be thy name"? Why not look at his reference to 'thy
name' as signifying God's authority and reputation,
not just the two syllables of 'Yahweh'?
Thus, the name "Jehovah" faded away , not simply
because of superstition, but because the men who
spoke for God gradually retired it, in favor of
the notion that there was only one God, the Father,
available to all men everywhere (Acts 17:27,30)
or as Paul put it, in failing to use 'the name'
"there is no God but one... there is actually to us
one God, the Father... and there is one Lord,
Jesus Christ" (1 Cor.8:4,6)

Double standard, you bet!
The Society should just "keep silent" and pray to Jehovah
for help everytime they get sued. It's the right thing to
do. He'll intervene in some miraculous way, just like Moses.
Yeah, right

I remember a time when the Society exercised a significant
degree of discipline over elders. Brothers were commonly
removed for having rebellious children or serious
wrongdoing.
Boy, those days seem like a distant memory!
Now, as long as the 'good old boys' in the local inner
circle agree, the skies the limit! Adultery, lying,
child molesting, fraud, theft, - you name it!
Just keep it out of public view and you're OK!
Not only that, but you can ignore any or all of the
Society's rules on congregational procedure and still
remain as an elder.
You can df or DA ANYBODY as long as they are unpopular
or marginal. The Society will almost never reverse
a judicial action taken, no matter how unjust or
exaggerated it might be. Remember how elders used to
look for a letter to DA a person? Now, all it takes is
a faint doubt, a few loose words, and you're out!
Are any of these new 'committees' going to reform
this? I think it's going to get worse if that Loyalty/
Moses/ We Are Appointed by God talk is any clue.
Perhaps it will bring them all down that much sooner.
The witch hunters at Salem defeated themselves this way.

please tell me i made the right decision.
last night the co and another elder showed up at our house just 5 minutes after my husband got home from work (i think they were sitting on the side of the road just waiting for him to come home)*stalkers*, anyway to make along story short, the pressure was on.
i felt like they were there to get us to da ourselves.
Quick! Go to your relatives and talk things over with them!
This is important! I have found out in life that most
people make up their minds after they hear ONE SIDE of the
story - go to your relatives and tell them how badly you've
been treated - play on their emotions- get them to promise
that they won't shun you in private. Lay the groundwork
for the DA'ing - if you can't stop it you can limit its
effects.
I am sorry you were treated like this by these bullies.
Am I wrong to hope they get a punch in mouth some
day?

I hope it cost($) them plenty.
However, they succeeded in preserving eccesiastical
privilege. My wonderment is how can courts continue to
go along with this nonsense - allowing privilege for a
trained clergyman or counselor is one thing - granting
this allowance to five or ten bus driver/window washing
pompous jerks is stretching things a bit far.
When do the courts rein in this abuse of privilege?

aren't you sick of being filled with so much hate ?
i think hate is one of the greatest sins.
satan hates jehovah, and his people.
Simply put, I'm not sick of all these attacks on the
organization. I know many fine people who are Witnesses.
But I'm overjoyed that finally there is a glimmer of hope
of forcing this sick, arrogant leadership to change.
We may actually succeed in publically humiliating the
self-glorifying Watchtower Society - and force their
corruption into public view.
Hooray! - and Godspeed!

One subject I've never seen addressed on these boards
concerns violence - or rather the lack of it - in
response to injustices within the organization.
This is a touchy area, I realize. I had a roommate
at Bethel once who got booted for threatening a factory
overseer - probably best for all concerned that he
left.
It might surprize you to know that the organization
has defended violence/self-defense at times.
For example, in resisting rape -- or many years
ago when Rutherford thought whacking loud mouth
Catholics was a good idea, at Madison Square Garden.
(The Olin Moyle letter may refer to this incident).
I don't advocate anything illegal here.
But I would like to repeat the story of Madame DuBarry.
Madame DuBarry was an aristocrat during the French
Revolution. She was known to be kind and generous,
unlike those who said 'let them eat cake'.
The Revolution became extreme, condemning anyone who
had anything to do with aristocracy, including her.
On her way to the guillotine, she protested and screamed.
She shrieked and thrashed while they cut off her hair
and fought her executioners hysterically.
The crowds who observed this were repelled. It wasn't
pretty and they expected the well-born to go to their
deaths as if they deserved it. After her death,
the Revolution's interest in these lurid spectacles
declined - they weren't fun anymore.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if every Witness who has ever
been harmed by the Society acted like she did? Wouldn't
it be great if every judicial committee had to
confront this kind of scene?
Wouldn't the whole organization be the better for it?
metatron (liberty, equality, fraternity)
the issue of the responsibility of elders in jehovah's witness congregations is under discussion on several threads currently.. what i really believe should be on trial here is the whole idea of a group of men being set up to make such extremely serious decisions regarding the lives of others.. by discouraging the use of professionals to assist in psychological matters, family matters, and most seriously matters of abuse, the watchtower society brings much responsibility for its actions and their affects onto itself.. tattoogirl addresses this on another thread.
can men judge men?
can janitors and laborers and accountants help an abused woman or child by reading them a few scriptures?.
Eloquent, articulate and beautiful.
Somebody on H20 used to compare it to giving a puppy
or kitten to a very small child. Such a gift is an
awful mistake because the child could cause horrible
suffering to the animal out of ignorance.
So too with these polyester suited window washers
who arrogantly believe themselves appointed by God.
