i had a chance to be with a group of jw's yesterday.
my wife thinks she overheard a couple of them talking about an announcement from the platform about avoiding the "golden compass" movie coming out.
i know that other religious groups have spoken out against this film, but i would not have expected the witnesses to announce that formally.

bethel = about 4 years ago a former pioneer / bethel sisiter and husband had to leave due to bad health and move to the suburbs.
some time ago while working on some "worldly" job some shelves hit her in the back causing server injury.
she suffered with her pain till she could not stand it any more.
Unbearable anguish - who can say what someone else's limit is - or one's own, for that matter.
I have heard JW's condemn those who did or would commit suicide, saying something like, "Well, that's taking a life!"
BTW, letting babies die for want of a blood transfusion and ruining someone's life with abuse are in the category of "taking a life" as well, Watchtower.
Acceptance of what is
Taking people and events as just what they are, not as a "sign" of anything or evidence of "demons"
Judging others by their behavior ("fruits") rather than their standing with a bunch of autocrats or their loyalty to an organization that cares little about them
Learning, learning, learning - expansion of spirituality, intellect and social skills as well as introspection and self acceptance/understanding
True friendships based on mutual caring and respect
Quality family time, rituals and celebrations
Helping others in a real world, down to earth way - donating time and goods to those in need and a listening ear to those who need to vent
Real vacations
Earning enough money to have a life
And so many more . . . .

not that i want to or anything, but this therapist guy seems to think that it would be really helpful to my wife.
he says to pull out the good and ignore what you dont like, and that supporting my wife a bit in this way could be good for us as a couple.
it could also let us have at least some shot at keeping the old social life alive.
(((oompa)))
Not so long ago it seems that you were pretty depressed. You have come a long way, and I hate to see you risk slipping back into that sorrow.
Weigh the pros and cons very carefully. Will occasional meeting attendance give your wife false hope? It could be bad for her, too.
I agree with those who say that your therapist does not appear to really understand that going to a JW meeting is a very different kettle of fish than going to any "normal" kind of meeting.
Pulling for you,
SandraC
i've finished writing my novel (50 thousand words) about my years spent in federal correctional prison when i was an obedient little jw.. the editing and rewriting stage now commences.. i need your help!.
here is how you can help me.. i can't know what an outside mind wants to find out concerning this experience.
i can only conjure up what seems interesting to me.. tell me what you want to know about such a personal experience.. that will give me a checklist to compare to what i've written already.. i may have missed many little details which are very important to a reader.. i may have neglected essential questions which must be answered in order to satisfy the mind.. please offer me your curiousity.. thanking you in advance; i appreciate your taking the time to advance my novel to the finish line.. (i wrote it as a fictional work because i could not honestly write about myself without the distance of this device.. so, i made myself into a character with a different name.. the identity of everyone else is non-fiction.
UU and others:
I was part of a congregation in the late '60's in which there were two young brothers sentenced to work in hospitals in lieu of prison. It was considered a "compromise" to accept alternative service, so some savvy judges actually made alternative service the sentence - a real win-win.

..the devil is mean!....and..he will pee in your corn flakes!
!............................outlaw
The devil (at least the one named Satan) doesn't bother us non JW's, does he? After all, he's already allegedly got us in his corner. We are the "evil" NON-slaves who work against child molestors (even "holy" or "righteous" or "spirit appointed" child molestors) and dare to say what we really think (Intellectual Honesty - Is It for JW's? - No).
I think I live alone, but perhaps Satan is ever with me. But the JW's may be right because he has never bothered my corn flakes or other stuff. Whatever he may be doing to "rule" me is not apparent to me or anyone else. So I don't let him bother me. If, however, he does to live in my house to ensure that I am sufficiently evil, I think he should pay rent or at least vacuum and clean up while I'm out. Any suggestions for collecting?

SandraC
2 years ago i left jws.
i went to a baptist church because it was what my husband was.
i knew i wanted to go to church but which one i really didn't know yet.. two years later, i think i have made up my mind: presbyterian.. anyone have anything they want to share?
The Presbyterians are big on education. Presbyterianism got its start in Scotland. John Knox wanted everyone to learn to read so they could read scripture for themselves. I would be proud to belong to a church that made Scotland the intellectual capital of Europe at a time when no one else cared about educating us of the "great unwashed."

i tried to copy this letter into firefox's xinha editor but there were too many conflicts.
i decided to paste into microsoft word, then print to pdf.
let me know if you have problems .
They are sooooo pathetic! In Christian churches, one is reminded every Sunday to love one's neighbor as oneself. The golden rule covers it. There does not have to be any special dispensation or historical reference point for practicing decency to other human beings, especially children!
Thanks for your great letter, Ff.

i realize initially this is what we all have in common, but it really gets old sometimes!
all of us have more important attributes....some are gardeners, artists, musicians, decorators, teachers, mothers, fathers, etc, etc.. what is more important in your life?.

I was a person before I was a dub, a good one. As a dub, I became a person I did not like or respect. I'm still not as good as I once was, but I'm getting better. If I am remembered, let it be for something good I did.
