Phizzy, I'm not a legal expert, but I thought that if a person were subpoenaed to appear in court, and failed to appear, that a bench warrant would be issued, that person would be held in contempt, and subject to arrest and jail time. I don't think appearing is optional if one is served with a subpoena.

Audio of Candace Conti and Bill Bowen at the RNA 2013 conference
by cedars inthe audio file is 1 hour 28 minutes in total.
the first hour is the panel speaking, and the remaining 28 minutes is the questions from journalists.. here is the link.... http://192.185.44.220/media/13austin/podcast/06%20precon_%20the%20continuing%20story%20pf%20clergy%20abuse%20beyond%20roman%20catholics.mp3.
candace conti in particular did an amazing job, and the comments from the journalists show how appreciative they were of her bravery in speaking out on such a personal issue.. bill was also informative with some of the firsthand accounts he was able to give.. .

Personally, I was not brought up as a JW in my earliest years. The tooth fairy came. So did Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. It did me no harm (I think). It never occurred to me to question their existence, simple-minded and credulous as I was. (Another "fairy" visited my sister upon request. Sometimes that "fairy" gave her my stuff. I didn't say a word, because I was already not the favorite, and didn't want to make it worse.)
In the fourth grade, our teacher told us that Santa Claus wasn't real. I told my younger sister. She's still angry with me that I told her.
Telling kids the truth is a very subjective, troublesome conundrum. My son-in-law was asked by my granddaughter when she was very young, if it was wrong to tell a lie. He tried to explain why it is sometimes hurtful to tell the whole truth (e.g., if someone is stalking someone, and the stalker asks if you've seen that person), and lived to regret it.
Once I was listening to Dr. Laura on the radio. A guy called in and said he, as the tooth fairy, mistakenly left a $20.00 bill under his son's pillow. He needed most of the money back, but didn't know how to ask for it. Dr. Laura advised him to get a gold pen and get someone with nice handwriting to write a note to the boy from the tooth fairy explaining that the tooth fairy had made a mistake and needed most of the money back for other kids who lost teeth.
No one can answer this question for you, I'm sorry to say. It's a judgment call.

Why do you think they changed their mind on organ transplants?
by Separation of Powers infrom 1967 to early 1980, the watchtower stated that organ transplants were tantamount to "cannibalism.
" then, suddenly, the position was changed to organ transplants being a "conscience matter.
" so, my question, why the change?

I agree that it was more likely a pragmatic decision rather than deep Biblical research that precipitated the flip-flop in doctrine. Every oppressive person or organization has rules to fit its own agenda. The rules are usually more stringent for the "little people" such as women, non-pioneers, non-elders and such.

Don't Question. Don't Think. Just Obey!
by Oubliette insome of the rhetoric in recent wt magazines got me thinking, it would be useful to have a somewhat comprehensive list of quotes showing the wtbts's incessasant control-freakery and their irrational--and apparently growing--paranoia.
i was thinking it would be good to have a variety of both longer and shorter, older as well as more recent quotes that prove the pattern and history of their manipulative mantra of: don't question.
just obey!.

I saw a documentary yesterday about a woman who had escaped from the fundamentals LDS/Mormon church. Unquestioning obedience was Warren Jeffs' mantra, too. The women suffer terribly. I feel so sorry for the little girls getting molested. This woman, the very last time she spoke with Warren Jeffs, was told, "I will break you."
She and her sister were key witnesses in Jeffs' trial. She wore red at the trials of Jeffs, a color Jeffs forbade her to wear when she was an "insider." She was such a courageous woman!
He expected to live as a God, having sex with 12-year-olds the rest of his life. Instead, hes in prison for life. Although I loathe the man, I feel badly that he grew up as the son of "the Prophet" and, as a result, saw this god-like existence as his birthright. In a way, he was led down the garden path, too.
I'm still glad he's locked away and can't hurt any more children.

It will probably bring heartache to her. But, look on the bright side. It's a joke! It's stupid and hilarious (easy for me to say since it's not my relative) Hopefully, a few years from now, the two of you will look back on this episode laughing!

The "second-rate" nations have health care, long vacations, and don't think they have to save the world by participating in every conflict across the globe. I look forward to the day when we become "second-rate."

Google "Desiderata" and read it. It says that "you are a child of the universe, the same as the flowers and the trees; you have a right to be here. At the end, it says that "despite of all the sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it's still a beautiful world. Strive to be happy."
Are you doing things to make yourself happy? Is there something you would like to learn and enjoy doing? Playing music? Sewing or knitting? Writing? Taking classes at your local college? The world is full of possibilities. Join a club or just drop in at your community center and see what activities they have. Exercise is especially good for depression.
If you need to pray, just do it. Whether anyone is listening or not, you will unburden yourself of your anxiety.
Best wishes for a happier future.
